i don’t think ‘fuck the patriarchy key ring on the ground’ was from 2012. That to me seems like 2021 Taylor to me. I’ve always thought 10 minutes was an exaggeration on Taylor’s part but the fans took it and ran. She said she originally played it first at a sound check on the speak now tour; maybe it was longer then than what was finally recorded for red, but i do have doubts also that it’s what’s been released now as the 10 min version that we’ve heard this year.

I agree about the modern lyrics and the length being over exaggerated. I mean I love the song but it struggles to reach 10 mins with the “wind in my hair I was there I was there” over and over to reach the end

I definitely think there's more to the Scooter backstory that we don't know. Iirc she had said Scott would be well aware that she hated him because any time his name came up she was crying. Why did she hate him do much? Yes he was kanye's (kinda) manager and Justin B's (actual) manager but that can't just be it? He has done something to her personally for her to have this reaction.

He was essentially involved in the bullying that happened to her through Kanye, Kim and Justin. Karlie Kloss is/was friends with him too so that’s another way she would know him. I think he has also played the victim since it happened saying he didn’t know how Taylor felt etc etc

The point of Lover was celebrating different types of love. Romantic, friendship, sex, LGBT, family, ex loves

This may be unpopular but I thought this theme was very weak and just made up as an afterthought. Any of her albums could be seen in the lens of love really. I agree about the fluffy pink being too much. IMO folklore is the natural successor to rep.

As I side note, I really dislike the Lover album cover so much The font, the glitter, the bad photoshopping, the heart around the eye, the dip dyed hair.

Lover has some bangers but the whole album and roll out screams “I’m on a new label who need me to do a big pop album so I’ll just do this”.

Midnights does feel more thought out and I hope it’s “sonically cohesive”

Absolutely. That example of bullying she’s given is unkind but there’s no way that would cause you to cry every time they were mentioned. Kanye, sure, but not Scooter. Has she ever said she cries whenever JB is mentioned?

Is there, though? Something else that must’ve happened, that is. Taylor put forward this idea that he is so out of line to her that she will gladly tank her past catalogue, cut ties AND in some regard ‘slander’ (or however you want to put it, for lack of a better word) Scott Borchetta too, then spend years re-recording, all because Scooter is basically evil incarnate and she basically implies he was central to circulating ‘revenge porn’ about her, etc.

And yet… she is friends and collabs with people like Ed Sheeran, who is good friends with Scooter and went to his wedding and basically refused to speak against Scooter during all this? I’m just not sure how the two thoughts go together. Like I get if you are friends with someone who is friends with someone you don’t like. But if Scooter is that repulsive and awful and spread revenge porn with you in it how can you be chill with someone who is besties with that guy?

I think the truth of it is more like… Taylor never like Scooter. Fair enough, he’s a sleazy Hollywood manager and there are other industry people who don’t like him. Makes sense. But separately, Taylor was ALSO just pissed that the Masters sale didn’t go her way. She wanted them, couldn’t get them in the deal, and had decided instead she would just go to a new label. But it bothered her all along because lbr for her entire life most business and financial deals have gone her way. So she had to sit and wait to see who they’d be sold to, and she didn’t like it.

Then when they get sold, and to Scooter Braun (sleazy guy who is associated with things that piss her off), the whole thing makes her even more angry and reminds her of how she didn’t get the original deal she wanted... AND she sees a way to market her way out of this. (The whole thing becomes about Scooter and a revenge fantasy, and fans for some reason love that).

I think Taylor is probably a good person and all, and I like a lot of things she does… but I think she is used to getting her way, and since she was a teen she has been the centre of all rooms she is in and the centre of Taylor Universe. It’s extremely hard to be well adjusted as someone who got famous so fast at such a young age. She DOES have something of a victim complex and she DOES see people as coming after her and ‘betraying’ her if she thinks they have done something against her own interest. Hence why she is obsessed with revenge, because she takes so many things as deliberate betrayals.

Going back to what others were saying about how she was an activist for a while and then stopped, I just want to give my personal experience.
I was so in to politics before brexit and while Jeremy Corbyn was leading the Labour Party but when he wasn’t voted in and people voted for brexit, I gave up. I still read up on things and make sure I stay informed but I just physically can’t let myself get that passionate because of how hard it hits me when I realise other people don’t feel the same. I’m the same age as Taylor so I can really sympathise with her. She’s not young but she’s still on a journey.

What I’m having trouble with is announcing the presale for the UK. Obviously it was to drive album sales even though you didn’t need a purchase but would she really say it all for the upcoming shows if the shows were TWO years away?

It’s the way it’s phrased though…”international dates announced as soon as we can”. That to me suggests that any UK/Europe (and Asia/Australia) dates aren’t even finalised yet. I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s still a bit of a covid backlog for some of venues she’s likely to play and there’s been a hold up booking.

I love it because it covers loss so ambiguously and resonates for different reasons depending on who you are/your life experiences. For me it says everything I’ve tried to articulate so many times about the loss of a loved one who died very young, and all the things they never got to do or be. It’s really a beautiful song

It really does resonate on so many levels . It made me think of my departed cat when I heard it , which I know pales in comparison to some of the losses others have been through but because it’s so vague everyone can relate

I wanted that holiday merch so bad. I've never splurged on any, because as much as I Taylor and I love buying shit, I also love a bargain and her merch isn't that, lol.

I actually bought a t-shirt from China that says "I had a marvellous time ruining everything", which I love (£4, nice colour, great lyric - win win win).

BUT the text is cursive and so the r isn't very obviously an r and it looks like it says "I had a marvellous time winning everything", which makes sense at least I suppose but makes me look like a braggy weirdo.
