I'd be interested to know what everyone thinks the future is for influencers? I've seen people say on Tattle that they think the 'job' will die out because followers are getting fed up with it. Personally, I can only see it getting bigger.

Her mum, yeah. And I don't deny that it must be tough for Jess too, but she's always been lazy, this behaviour isn't new.

Exactly. While I can imagine she is going through a very difficult time, her lack of putting out any content is absolutely nothing new. She’s been saying for years now (since her masters?) that she’s looking forward to focusing full-time on YouTube/social media, etc but we’ve not seen her follow through at all. It’s sad she’s not living up to her potential, and while I can appreciate she is having a difficult year, so are many other people except they still have to keep up full-time jobs on top of everything they’re going through.

Totallllly agree either just sat in front of her dresser or at her desk or in bed. And nothing she says is particularly interesting as she doesn't do anything. Usually either about her skin or books she has read which could just be in her book video? Wouldn't really go to her for skin advice as she has those super expensive laser treatments so I wouldn't ever take product recommendations as any skin benefits she sees probably come from the laser.

It seems that at least in the past few months he's been involved with helping to take Indie and their mom to school and appointments, as well as cooking for the family, although that probably doesn't occupy *all* his time. I do think he's probably doing things and just doesn't want to be filmed, rather than him literally not doing anything. Remember, it was JESS who wanted him to quit his chef job and come be with her 24/7. He didn't beg her to be his sugar mama so he could be unemployed or anything.

It's not as if she forced him though he could have said no. He seems to have quit a few things in the past (uni and other jobs) so not rly surprising. That being said tho, I do think it was a super stupid move, they def don't put out enough content to justify it being two people's full time jobs..

I think the big problem for influencers like Jess is (and a whole bunch of them really) when the regulations changed on showing what was gifted and what was sponsored it became disingenuous, the whole fakeness could be covered up, where as now, the pattern for Jess looks terrible, only doing what’s sponsored. Yes she vlogged etc but I do think she just doesn’t Know what to do when the brand doesn’t send her a brief. I do hope she is okay whatever is going on for her mentally I honestly think she should just change directions for now and focus on being a book tuber with some make up stuff thrown in! Then she doesn’t need to worry about making it so personal

I think she's at the level of wealth where she could just decide to never work again if she wanted to, so it's interesting to speculate on why she keeps coming back to do the bare minimum when she could comfortably quit entirely. Validation from "her loves" maybe?

I’m three minutes into her vlog and I’m annoyed.
She really never acknowledges her privilege. I’m the same age as her currently out of work waiting for a transplant (not my first) had to leave my brand new job, move home and start treatment so many days a week.
If she wants to know about escaping the UK because it’s so miserable she really hasn’t noticed how lovely her life is and her luck.

Oh Christ, now she’s moaning because she’s in a bad mood because she tried to do her hair, spent ages and it didn’t work. Shame I used to love her vlogs when she was a student because I could relate!

I don't think her mom makes that much money either, she must make a decent amount of money yes, but Jess' family comes from old money. her great-grandad was a famous architect.

Her mum will earn a lotttt. She's pretty high up at a Magic Circle law firm right? I think her partner is too so especially between them they will be raking it in.

There was a vlog recently where Jess showed the apartment she lived in when she was young and it was just her and her mom. From the outside, the apartment looked normal, I recall it sat above a restaurant on a busy-ish street. I'm from the US, so I have no idea what the market was like in that particular area of London 20 or so years ago when Jess was young, but it didn't look like anything super nice like what they have now. Also, there was a video maybe a year ago where Jess and Zak went to visit her grandma and they were in the living room I believe and the decor looked very normal for a grandma lol. It wasn't crazy lavish or anything. I'd imagine her mom grew up quite comfortably, but it seems like a lot of her money has come from her current position + her husband's income (and we have no idea what her husband's financial background is either).

I’ve always loved her, not sure if it was because she was a bit ‘edgy’ idk, but then since she’s graduated she just grates on me. One of the reasons that I liked her book videos so much was because she doesn’t read the typical book tube selections, but I agree with the above poster, I feel like she blurts goodreads reviews, subtly, but she definitely does. She tries too hard to come across as woke but she just isn’t.

It's a pathetic excuse to just allow her to be lazy. There are apparently 2 people working full time on her 'content' yet they can't answer questions/reply to comments and can't/won't mark ads properly.

I’ve said this before but will say it again... the fact that she basically employs Zak full-time is a joke considering how little content they produce. It blows my mind, but what does he do besides take her photos, edit her videos, make her meals and drive her/her family round..? To be fair he sounds much more productive than her not that that’s saying much

I do feel like she is pregnant, especially when she was talking about not doing vlogtober for quite random reasoning. In fairness, she doesn’t have to announce it, but the minute she deleted the pregnancy book from goodreads I felt it was likely.
BUT, I do want to say that I feel bad for speculating as well, as 2020 hasn’t been a good year for anyone and she did mention missing the gym, so the extra weight could simply be a lack of exercise too I guess.

To be fair I don't think she is getting any attention or engagement from the handful of people on her speculating about whether or not she is pregnant. This is one of the quietest threads on here and so far like two people have moved to comment on her video. Her regular viewers aren't really speculating.

The pregnancy book on good reads was mid July and she could have only just found out then so she might only be about 20 weeks or so.
But she could be anything above that.

That student to real life transition is hard as you're out in the "real world," and i reckon it would be all the more difficult if you don't come into a job that takes up most of your time. I worked in retail full time for a year and a half after graduating, and though I hated it I was motivated to get into the career I had aspired for. I somehow found time to apply for things despite being knackered.

I'm not saying Blogging/being an "influencer" isn't time consuming per se, but for someone academic like Jess I think she found it hard having so much time to do it, and without the structure of essay writing and deadlines etc. It's that thing isn't it - give a busy person something to do and they'll get it done efficiently. Give someone with all the time in the world to do something and they'll get it done someday... maybe. Now she's only really motivated by deadlines given to her by brands.
