I can't remember exactly but it was some wishy washy answer, something along the lines of her feeling 'above' the goodreads rating and not agreeing with the 1-5 star system.

I'm the same, that's the type of content that I signed up for. Was the backlash mainly on youtube? I really can't remember but just remember that she just stopped doing them :(
From what I saw they were always on her "what i got for my bday/xmas" videos. People constantly telling her she's selfish, tone-deaf, reminding her that there's people out there that are less fortunate etc... I really hate that whole narrative, Jessie's parents buying her expensive presents isn't the reason poverty exists.

Either way, she has been looking a bit miserable for months now. I think it's sad that even reading can bore her now cause that's all she does. Maybe she'd like doing her Doctorate, but during her Masters she didn't seem much happier... Could it be that her relationship with Zak isn't fulfilling? Corona and her mum's diagnostic aside obviously, I really wonder what has been making her seem so depressed the past few years.
If I did nothing with my days, didn't have a proper job, and didn't have a real reason to get up in the morning, I would be hella depressed too. It's pretty straightforward really, not some big mystery. I don't think it has anything to do with her relationship, and I also think she would be just as depressed even without covid or her mom's health situation (as you mentioned, she's been like this for years, it's not new!!). The girl has ZERO purpose in life. How could anyone possibly feel fulfilled in that situation? Honestly think her mom did her no favor by providing for her in the way that she has... She doesn't need to work (i.e. she doesn't need the money) and she's not passionate enough. Jess needs a kick in the butt and some motivation to actually WORK. A PhD wouldn't solve anything and she honestly isn't cut out for it... It's actually really lonely and you have to have a LOT of drive and self-motivation to get through it, because no one is going to give you deadlines or chase after you like they do in undergrad--you are on your own. She would just spend all day reading and taking notes as well (same as she does now), and wouldn't actually get anywhere.

I don't think her having a c section booked (if she does) is a big deal or a reason to paint her negatively - I don't see it as an easy option and women should be able to choose to give birth however they feel comfortable. She probably will go private but not surprising I guess.

Totally agree about the giving back thing. If she is happy doing minimal work and can afford to then fair enough, but I'm surprised she hasn't done anything like supporting a charity or something, she could raise so much awareness with her following.

Amazing. So spot on
People can't choose to give birth however they feel most comfortable - only if you have money can you really choose.
C sections always have their own problems too - internal scarring / pain / organs attaching and sticking to the scarring they are not the easy long term option. What i meant was a lot of pregnant people want c sections to avoid the trauma of a v birth, the very possible bladder / bowl problems from v births, not to mention stretching and the vagina / vulva not going back to how it was before and the effect on intimacy etc but are denied it and made to go through a traumatic natural birth - if you pay you can have more or less anything you want.

She will be coasting through this thanks to her familys money that enabled her to earn a lot on YouTube / insta. Just like she will hire nannies so she can carry on being lazy and self indulgent but will lap up adulation for "doing so well" or "doing it herself" will harp on about being tired needing a nap (while nanny does the grunt work) and being busy plageriseing other people's goodreads reviews.

Thank you my loves.

We are all kind of projecting what we would like to do in her place. But that doesn’t mean she wants to or cares to do those things 🤷🏻‍♀️ We are all free to decide how to spends our lives after all, and if she wants to be lazy and not do anything, it’s her right
You are missing the point. Of course it’s her right. It’s not projection at all. What I’m saying & I think others are saying is that she doesn’t seem happy. IMO post uni she seemed at a bit of a loss. I’ve no doubt YouTube is easy money but I’m not sure how much she enjoys it. She doesn’t reply to comments in general. Her videos are often late. She mainly films in two rooms.
I’m Jess was lying in a bath all day reading but grinning away, I’d still think she was lazy but if she seemed happy so be it.
IMO pre baby she didn’t seem happy, her house doesn’t appear to interest her that much, she seemed lacking in energy constantly, & recently she randomly started talking about studying science. Her energy was different in Edinburgh. Her energy around her girlfriends when she sees them is different. In both those situations & in the baby announcement she seems happy. Otherwise she seems a bit meh.

Normally I don't pay attention to booktuber's TBRs but for October I decided to read some books Jess was planning to read so I was extra looking forward to her October books video as every single book I've read this month was also read by Jess. Literally the first time I've decided to do it and I'm having to wait weeks for it.
don’t worry, you’ll get it by March 😂
May at the latest 😐

Should her new vlog have ad in the title? It has a Missoma ad in... not sure of the rules if only part of the vid is an ad. She did caption that that it was and it's in the description to be fair, but I hate clicking on videos and not realising it's an ad for a crap company.

The bar is really low for Jess, isn't it? This is part of her "job" as a social media influencer, something she's ignored for years on end. I imagine her family praises her for doing such mundane things as well.
Thank you lol was just about to say the same!!! The girl doesn't reply to comments for like 10 years, then she replies to comments on one pic and people are already praising her? Come on now, be real. If it was anyone else y'all would not be having it. People just put Jess on the highest pedestal for some reason I've just never been able to comprehend.

I’ve never posted in this thread before, but I’ve been watching Jess forever; I’ve always loved her but found her a bit meh in terms of recognising her privilege etc. I am absolutely SHOOK that she is pregnant, to me she still seems so young it’s mad. And in a way I feel kinda sad, makes me feel super old (I’m a year younger) but I’m so happy for them at the same time. I’m just so shocked. I guess when they found it she was pregnant, given everything that’s going on with her mum, they decided to go ahead with it. I guess as well I’m sad because I always thought I’d see her do something amazing with her career, or do a PhD - but I don’t see her doing that now sadly

Exactly. I find it a bit odd. A lot of the comments are asking questions and she definitely has time to answer. I just find it quite hollow when youtubers refer to their audiences as 'you guys' and 'you guys are so supportive' and 'you guys are the reason I get to live this life' but they don't even bother interacting with their audience any more than that. Just makes their gratefulness seem performative.
Yeah well said. Something that kind of grates on me is when youtubers say "I'm editing a video for you guys" - as if it is a selfless gift lol

I haven’t written here before but reading about her attitute towards the house reminded me how she said that they were thinking of living in that house for 10 years and i was absolutely baffled! For me, that house would be forever not just 10 years and that was one of those moments of perspective of just how different jess’s mindset is

She would never be able to complete a PhD going by her current work ethic. Also what's the point of her doing one if she has no plans to even get a job.
I feel like she isn't cut out to be an influencer either.

I don't think her mom makes that much money either, she must make a decent amount of money yes, but Jess' family comes from old money. her great-grandad was a famous architect.
I mean your use of 'much money' is subjective. Her mum and step-dad are both partners at a magic circle law firm and I'd imagine make 7-figures each; not combined.

Do you mean on her dad's side? Because Jess has said before that her mum came from a somewhat normal family and worked hard to be in the financial position she's in now. Which would imply her mum doesn't come from old money.

Edit; actually I just looked into it, and the architect you're thinking of didn't have any children so possibly a great-great-uncle of some kind rather than great-grandfather.

Congratulations to Jess. However, I don't understand why she wants to have a kid with a man who works for her and relies on her financially? And it's just a small amount of work at that. Doesn't seem a good dynamic for a relationship.

I just can’t get my head around what Zak must do all day 🤯
We all know Jess is lazy and counts reading a book as a productive day, but we’ve never seen any signs of Zak lying around reading too.
It seems that at least in the past few months he's been involved with helping to take Indie and their mom to school and appointments, as well as cooking for the family, although that probably doesn't occupy *all* his time. I do think he's probably doing things and just doesn't want to be filmed, rather than him literally not doing anything. Remember, it was JESS who wanted him to quit his chef job and come be with her 24/7. He didn't beg her to be his sugar mama so he could be unemployed or anything.

I doubt she's travelling. I would imagine she's taking this situation a bit more seriously now with her mum and being pregnant. I think she's maybe been at the farm and doesn't want to advertise travelling round the UK, but I doubt she's been to Dubai/the Maldives/Barbados like some other influencers.

Why is it always the privileged influencers that never worked a day in their life that post stuff like this? The holier than thou “Oh y’all hate Monday’s? Well I happen to like them 😌”. Yeah, that’s cause you never not once had to start a 5 day work week on a Monday, doll. Your Monday consists of getting a manicure and reading for 10 hours.
So spot on. A really tone deaf caption!
