Yet again Lacey has shopping written in her diary with what looks like reading on Wednesday.

I don't understand why shopping has to the take up the entire day. If they went to a main supermarket they would be able to get everything they need without having to go into multiple shops. It seems very odd to me considering with are still in the middle of a global pandemic. Why would you want to put yourself at an increased risk of becoming ill by mixing with so many different people?

The thing is Lacey could easily stay with either Rachel or Bill there is no need for them all to go out.

They use shopping as something to fill up the day with for Lacey. I think they know deep down, they aren’t able to educate her to the degree a mainstream school would which is totally fine if that is what Lacey needs to at least learn something rather than nothing. (Due to the anxiety she had at school). I do feel like they purposefully do smaller shops than one big shop as something to do during the day. Especially for Steve as he doesn’t do a day job, it gets him out of the house.

I noticed too Steve made a comment about Liam going to the fridge “already”. Well if he’s being allowed lots of junk food that will make him way more hungry a lot sooner. Especially with the amount of Coke they let him drink too.

Your probably right, they may be using shopping as something for her to do during the day.

However I don't believe that shopping is the only option for her to get out of the house. A few people on here have said that they live near this family and that there are loads of things to do.

They would be so much better off taking her for a walk with the dogs, playing at the park, going to the library, going to a museum; literally anything would be better than going to multiple shops every single Wednesday. I understand going there sometimes but that is literally the only form of socialisation she gets now. They have removed her from school away from all contact with other children and teachers which I can understand because she was finding school really difficult. But they really do need to try and get out more though, it would do all of them good!

The majority of home school family don't just sit there and work at a desk they use the world around them to learn. The thing is everyone learns in different ways. They may be trying there hardest to help her by sitting her down and getting her to read and write but she actually might learn better through hands on experience.

hate that boy Henry andrews in his comment he’s like Steve’s bouncer

I really do feel sorry for Liam. I know he shouldn't have pushed Lacey but he was clearly hot, bothered and didn't want to be recorded judging by the fact that he was not talking or she had been winding him up for a while! He has been at school all day probably struggling with the hot weather like the rest of us and she was standing there calling him Mr whippy. She also did touch him, which he clearly didn't like. Why did he get told off for pushing her but Steve didn't tell her off for winding him up? Then she stands there saying he has the ars* or something like that, I am not surprised Liam got angry and pushed her. If Steve would of told her off in the first place it would not has escalated to the point of him pushing her.

I think Liam gets forgotten about over the girls.I do feel for Liam he seems to be the child they come down hardest on but also the child they forget about.
I don't think Lacey is the so called golden child but I do think she is treated differently because of her autism. As a parent of a child with autism it's the last thing you should do. She is let away with things because of it. I was a big supporter of taking her out of school but looking at the work she is doing, I think there taking the piss! My child would be very similar to Lacey and I know by watch Lacey she able for much more then what they or doing/showing.

I couldn't agree with you more!

Just because she has Autism it doesn't mean she should be treated differently, she knew exactly what she was doing by winding him up.

Steve is always saying that Liam just gets on with it. Is that because he knows that all of his parents time and attention is taken up by his sister? He shouldn't have to get on with things on his own, he is an 11 year old boy who needs the support of his parents.

Lacey definitely gets away with a lot more now with the excuse of autism. We don’t really see much of Rache or how she parents so can’t really comment on that, but Steve really has started to baby her a bit I think. Makes out her needs are a lot worse than they are. She’s capable of a lot more than he makes out and I think that’s partly because they don’t know how to educate her above a basic level. Making chocolate crispy cakes is pathetic and something you’d expect for Chloe.

I only have 1 child, so can’t really say about treating them differently due to autism. But the situation we saw in the kitchen really wasn’t only Liam at fault and he was the only one told off. He looked hot and tired and just wanted to get on with getting his stuff sorted out. No excuse for pushing and was right to be told not to, but Lacey should have been told to leave him alone. It’s like they expect Liam just to put up with being wound up/teased.

I also don’t understand why Steve and Rache both took the washing to Val. Why didn’t Steve go on his own? (Or let val and bill collect it since they offered and Steve seemed to think they would have liked to get out). I know they took Lacey, but I still don’t know why they both had to do it. I’ll also never understand why Lacey doesn’t do any schooling on shopping day. Why can’t she do something after they get home from the school run? It’s not like anyone actually sits down with her anyway.

I'm not blaming Lacey here at all for anything but I do agree with what other people are saying.

She is being babied and she is capable of a lot more than they think. In a way I can understand what they are doing. They want her to understand the basics before they move onto the next step. The problem is they can get her to sit there everyday of the year and go over her times tables and practicing telling the time but there is a chance that she just doesn't understand the concept. Little things like telling the time, times tables, the days of the week and the months of the year for example might be something she doesn't understand until she is a bit older and there is nothing wrong with that. Sometimes the basics are the things that are the most challenging.

However at some point they are going to have to move on and try something different with her. Going over the same thing day in day out clearly isn't working because she is still doing the same things she was doing when they first started home-schooling. I think they have missed a really important aspect of home schooling. They don't have to just sit there and do English and maths everyday they could give her a project to do!

I don't know what book she is reading but I swear she has been reading the same book for months?

I think it's a real shame that they are making crispy cakes at home and not including the other children. I bet Chloe would love to do that, the older two might even enjoy it.

Treating her differently will only make the other children resent her!

To me it’s like they now provoke the kids for content because without them, the vlogs would have nothing. He doesn’t do much except shopping, which he spreads over the whole week... for content. He definitely is babying Lacey like mentioned. She is capable of a lot more but is stifled because Steve isn’t capable.

I think he’s trying to replicate the school day, maybe due to not really knowing how else to get started. He doesn’t have to do it like that though if there is no plans for Lacey to return to school. I would say she already knows the basics in the sense of being able to read, write and do some basic maths. Not being rude, but I don’t think she’s going to be a mathematical genius so don't know why he’s getting so focussed on getting her to know all the times tables. She must be getting so bored. She’s just sitting down with workbooks each day and no adult actually doing something with her. They could find a fun project to do. Steve doesn’t have to know all the answers but he could learn with her. At one point she liked gardening, so getting out and doing something like that would be good. I think Bill seems to know a lot about gardening so maybe he could help if he was up to it. Home Ed can be really fun, doesn’t have to be sitting at a desk.

I thought he would have done better with home education to be honest. I didn’t think she would just be given a workbook and left to it. Considering he makes out how complex her needs are and she doesn’t take in information, you’d think someone would be with her to help make sure she’s understanding it all.

I find it strange how she needed a 1-1 support in school yet seems to work independently at home most of the time, she was also doing the same work as Liam in lockdown apart from a couple of things which were different..

They would be better off finding something she is interested in like you said which could be gardening and taking it from there. The problem is I think the whole family see education and learning as something you HAVE to do rather than something positive. All of them seem to have a really bad attitude towards school. They always want to just get things out of the way instead of enjoying it, learning really can be fun if you put the effort in.

If they decided to change her timetable and instead of doing English and Maths they took her on a walk and did a nature trail, did some gardening and learned about plants and insects, baked some cakes and learned about measurements and did some art and researched a famous artist she probably wouldn't be so bored and she would actually learn more. You can implement English and Maths within pretty much everything if you really put the effort in.

They need to make learning fun if they are going to do this long term.
