I've just looked up what VP and "enhanced" means in terms of prison and can't say I'm happy about that. What's the point in sending someone to prison when they're kept nicely tucked away and given special privileges ? Not far off him being at a holiday park ? (Well, not quite, but I'm sure you get where I'm coming from)

As Ricky Killeen explained in his video, it's a piss take the for the enhanced prisoners who have towed the line and behaved well to earn privileges to end up on the same wing with the n.on.ces who are immediately given the newer cells/better quality accommodation
He’s still locked up. Still has no freedom, his entire day dictated by others. Still only speaks to/sees loved ones in small windows at assigned times. Even the ‘nicest’ prisons are still prisons. And it’s important to remember the sun/daily Mail will ham up how nice VIP wings really are in order to get outrage clicks.

Allow me to be the first to say: This is bollocks. The regime is more restrictive than on other wings as for example, to move VP’s around the jail requires coordination between comms and boots on the ground in order to stop a riot.
The enhanced level of the IEP allows for prisoners to make progress. It pointless keeping someone locked up without giving them chances at rehabilitation and the different levels give them a chance earn extra privileges by behaving and showing that actually they can behave and better themselves.
Its not all about the punishment aspect of removing their liberty. There has to be the rehabilitation function as well

Can any prison personnel (I think @stunrw and @eggfriedrice ) start a prison thread. I am so intruiged by the goings on and workings of prisons. I follow the Sam Walker thread and really baffled how he is constantly on a phone and Instagram etc. Also the hierarchy in prisons and how much dodgy stuff (drugs phones etc) happens. Is it really the prisoners in charge? Could it all be stopped if higher ups really wanted to?

Watch his Instagram - it’s non stop. He says Channel 4 have got a 3 part documentary about him coming out, but they can’t release it until he’s released (which I thought was meant to be the same day Bear went in but it didn’t happen) or it’s seen as promoting a prisoner/that lifestyle or something along those lines….I lose track of what he’s saying.
