So apparently the bridge game.. the players didn’t actually fall through! They had stunt people that did that, the players just had to squat down really fast. I would of thought they just fell on to something really soft and squishy

One poor aspect was there was never really any "progress" in terms of the MC's attitude towards parental responsibility. He's still a dead beat dad who promised lavish gestures (traveling to the USA, gifts) but never delivered, he never really cared about his daughter that much when competing together, the main focus was on his relationship with his childhood friend. On one hand, could this be realistic, maybe, but I don't like how he was seen as the "good guy" for fostering the N.K competitor's brother and dumping him with the ageing mother.
A lot of people on Reddit have pointed out that the main character not making any progress is probably a very key thing and something that has been intended. Honestly, if we're being realistic it also makes sense - these people were chosen for these games because they were in debt/need money, had a gambling problem (which MC definitely does) or they just have nothing. They are then thrown into a game where the end result, if you survive, is going to be trauma and possibly PTSD. You're not really going to magically walk out and everything will be fine, and I think that's very clear from how MC dealt with things
Plus, I think MC really did feel like a dead weight in a lot of the games. He pushed through because of luck or because his childhood friend/someone else in the team came up with a solution at the perfect time. I really don't see how he actually develops as a person at all which is lowkey a bit disappointing even if it makes sense. I mean, even when it comes to the crucial moment to kill his friend he settles for just being the nice guy and sharing it despite all this anger he had over the past episode - yet we're meant to be left with this idea that he wants to go and fight this mysterious game?
At the same time, dumping the poor kid with the lady was probably the best he could do. He's not fit to be a parent and it seems that he realised that in a way (which feels disappointing because the rest of the series isn't about his kid) - or is just continuously selfish anyway

I also think Ali was done dirty. To portray a foreigner as so easily trusting and frankly dumb (we're really meant to think he wouldn't notice the stones being changed for marbles?) and then the added level of the VIPs being stupid (which seems to be more intended as a comment on them being rich more than anything) just seems off.

Even Ali looks good! 😄
I must say I'm surprised how many people watch foreign films dubbed! I've always read English subtitles and "listen" in original language.

For me 1 series is enough, I enjoyed it because of the characters but it's done, I wouldn't need/want to go back to it again in any format prequel or sequel.

Just finished it! Everyones gonna do Squid Game for Halloween aren't they lol

Some thoughts:

Gi Hun and Mr Sexy Policeman are well fit - hope the policeman isn't really dead as we didn't see his body 👀
Fuck Sang Woo, all my homies hate Sang Woo 😡
The licking scene in the honeycomb game made me so uncomfortable, I skipped the slow-mo licking scenes 🤣
Predictable but a fun watch - I sped up some of the talking scenes by x1.25 because they all talk so slow, especially that damn old guy
Speaking of the old guy, I hated the twist, what was even the point of that?
STATE OF GI HUNS HAIR AT THE END, OMFG I HATED IT
Fave ep was the tug of war or the marble game #justiceforali

Also what shape would everyone have picked? I would've totally gone star (but would have considered picking the umbrella first)

I wasn’t really paying attention when I put this on, I just saw Korean game show and thought it’d be like Takeshi’s Castle… Imagine my shock when they starting beating each other up and getting murdered!🤣🤣
I was nearly nodding off after a long day at work when Red Light Green Light came on. Nearly jumped out of my skin when the gunshots started 😂

I only watched it because of the tiktoks I kept getting and nearly gave myself a heart attack during the red light green light game as I wasn’t expecting it.

the most tense game was the tug of war, I had a knot in my stomach the entire time watching it.

Felt devastated when Ali died he was so sweet, also I was ready to kill Sang Woo myself just for the fact he killed my girlfriend 😭

Just finished binging this!! Alice in borderland is one of my favourite ever shows and I love any kind of death game premise (hence my danganronpa icon 😂) so I was very hyped. I prefer Alice but still thought it was a great watch.

The first game was my favourite, it was so chilling when the first person got shot, people started panicking and then it became a blood bath.

I found episode 2 a bit slow because I’m impatient and wanted more challenges, but I liked how they actually let everyone leave. I thought there would be some kind of loop hole so I liked that they actually let it happen.

I found the glass game the most tense to watch. I kept imaging myself in that situation, like even jumping from one pane to the other seemed terrifying! That game definitely seemed the most unfair as the starting player stands basically no chance. Also I wonder which number vest I would’ve picked!!

Not sure how I feel about the final episode. Beside from the awful wig, I wasn’t really a fan of the old man twist. Felt like that went of for too long.

The challenges were my favourite part so I’d be excited to see what they come up with if there was to be a second season.

also I’m in love with the undercover officer lol

Well, what an anti climax that was. Least deserving winner out of the 3 of them. I wanted 451 to win.

Yesss. Currently on episode 7. I'm addicted.

If you like it you should watch Alice in Borderland. It's in Japanese and similar concept!

Finished! I avoid blood and gore films but I really enjoyed it because the personalities of the characters and their stories made it deeper than just a bloodfest.
Loved crazy curly hair woman.

I guessed the brother was the masked one (although had expected him to be a younger student) and I knew the old man was dodgy but forgot all about him once he fake died in marble street. Hated the VIP episode because it made me think of Epstein's islands and also with the pandemic how the rich get away with so much and the poor don't. Always knew there would be only 1 winner so wasn't surprised it was the protagonist. Was surprised that the brother killed his cop brother though and expected him to be shot to keep (masked) face but saved

It's more gruesome in some cases. More exciting mostly! It's more "out there" and smarter, like there are some twists to the games whereas the Squid Game ones are quite straightforward as they are based on children's games. But both are really good series!
Director Hwang actually talks about this! The reason he chose children's games is because he wanted the focus to be on the players' emotions and ability to function under pressure or how they act when they're desperate - not on solving the puzzles or figuring out the gameplay.

I think all the actors did such an amazing part of "becoming" their characters and showing their emotions too. For that alone, I find Squid Game phenomenal.

Loved it overall but the twists were very weak and a few things didn't make sense.
  • [*]Someone already pointed out the food issue

[*]The Front Man twist was predictable and served no purpose. The cop's brother had been missing for days? The Front Man indicated he'd done Squid Games in the past, so obv. he would be gone for days if not weeks at a time, so why is it now an issue to be solved? Plus his flat back in the city looked like student digs - I got the impression the missing brother was younger. Didn't cop find brother's file in the private room and he was supposedly one of the contestants (#130 or so)? Did the briefly seen photo even look like him? It looked like a kid. I thought the guy that was trying to partner with Gi-hun for the marble challenge would turn out to be the brother.

[*]The old guy twist was really dumb, again served no purpose. Didn't make sense because it was after the marble challenge where he was eliminated that the VIPs arrived. Old guy told the Front Man to apologise to the VIPs that he won't see them because "it's more fun to play than watch" - but he was already out of the game by then?? If I'm missing something please let me know.
The old guy probably got eliminated at the marbles game because the next game was the high glass jumping game. No way would he have been able to do or fix his way through that

I just finished the show. I liked it, episode 6 was especially heartbreaking and I hate Sang woo.
However I wish Sae-Byeok had one. I found it too predictable that Gi hun would win because he was the main character. I think it would’ve made more sense to see him sacrifice himself so she could go on and win for her brother. Then again I don’t think I’d be too annoyed if he’d just got on that plane in the end and started a new life with his daughter. I can kind of see why he wants to find out who was behind the games, but it just seemed like a set up for another season.
I also don’t understand the whole under cop being the brother of the front man storyline. My dad guessed it but I was shocked at how old the brother was because I assumed he was younger and was one of the contestants.
All in all it was a very good show and I would recommend it. The games were very well thought out and really tense, my hands were so clammy watching episode 7, and I hope season 2 is just as good.

Binged this yesterday. Really really enjoyed it but I did find it really predictable. Anyone else? I guessed almost all the major plot points. Didn’t ruin it for me though at least

I’m enjoying this so much more than I thought I would.

I like how this version how now been made as we can watch it with our 11 year old who obviously would NEVER be allowed to watch the original 😅

Even with the are they/aren’t they actors, the further we’ve watched the more I’m actually forgetting that that bothered me to begin with and I’m just enjoying it anyway.
