This is rubbing me the wrong way. There are plenty of thin influencers who seemingly don’t care about overconsumption / sustainability issues, and I’d be very surprised to see anybody asking if there’s a link between thin influencers and a disregard for overconsumption.
Maybe I’m misunderstanding you but you’ve placed a weird emphasis on plus size influencers “eating whatever they want and not feeling guilty” ... like, how is that a bad thing? And again, plenty of thin people eat whatever they want and don’t feel guilty?

I don’t mean to come across aggressive if I am but this is just a weird comment to make.
Yeah that's totally fair, I kind of felt it wasn't quite right when I was typing it out but I wanted to open the debate. I don't think there's anything wrong with eating what you want and not feeling guilty, and as you say that's not just a fat thing. I guess it's just that HAES influencers tend to be more vocal about it, so that's why I thought there might be a link.

The difference is huge (one hurts the environment/disadvantaged people, and the other one doesn't) but the mentality of having anything you want is similar. I think it's something we all struggle with - we think it's normal to have an infinite amount and variety of clothes, food, electronics, homewares on demand whenever we want them.

Most plus size influencers/ HAES bloggers absolutely do draw a line between consuming food and consuming manufactured material goods, as they are very different and material goods usually have more significant ethical implications which most plus size influencers are very aware of and vocal about as it's an important social justice issue (though that said, I don't know any HAES vegetarians or vegans? I'm a meat eater so can't criticise, it's just interesting)

Basically I think Sofie is an outlier in her 'duck you for suggesting I limit how much a buy and how ethical/green it is', and it was probably wrong of me to suggest it goes beyond that.

I think someone did make a comment a while back about there being a lot of single use plastic and she flipped saying that you’re privileged if your able to be environmentally conscious and that not everyone can be. While I understand to a point that many environmentally friendly solutions can be more costly surely we can all make a small difference

something that drives me mad about influencers in general is that they say things like ‘being environmentally conscious is a privilege’ and they’re absolutely right BUT do they not have the privilege of time, money and resources?

like yeah it’s right to point out that not everyone can do it but more often than not the influencers themselves can. They just cba

Totally agree.

I think my issue is that she is a self-proclaimed anti-capitalist, but completely ignores that poor people are disproportionately affected by climate change etc. She used to speak a lot about intersectional feminism, but doesn't seem to have grasped the intersectionality of socialism and environmentalism. She claims to be anti-capitalist, but is encouraging consumerism which doesn't sit well with her socialist stance (I think she has said she's a socialist communist in the past). 'Influencing' as a way for her to make money, and encouraging people to buy tat from Amazon is rather hypocritical imho.

I write all that as an admittedly really rubbish socialist myself ... but at least I'm honest about it and trying to be better.

Really can't believe how much money and time she spends improving a rented property
I can understand the desire to create a space that she enjoys since we're all spending so much time at home during lockdown, but I'm really intrigued that she seems to be able to splash the cash so much during the pandemic when so many other comedians and people in the arts are struggling to make ends meet.

I guess this is what she is using the £25 ticket fee for..

It’s especially weird as Sofie talked quite a bit about how tit things are for the arts / comedy right now and the financial knock on of that.

I just... they put up the story about why they’re doing this and I know they know it’s an irrational thing to put all this focus on, but isn’t there anybody in their life to say, surely now more than ever is a good time to put the money you would be using towards these projects (even if you are scrimping and doing things cost effective it all adds up) towards a back up fund?
I’m torn because I understand we spend so much time at home our surroundings have a big effect on us, but all the same... like damn put it in savings instead maybe?

espeically as eventually she will move and have to spend more money on repainting etc, it is not like it is an investment is it?

And given that she's been talking recently about her debts and how she's struggling without live gigs??

That wicker basket she posted alone will cost about £30 (I know because I've been meaning to buy some for storage for ages but I just can't justify it, even though I have a full time job so I could afford it, it just seems unnecessary) - is it not just so stressful spending so much in one go on non essential stuff to decorate your flat with??

yeh exactly, I am on furlough and unsure if I will get my job back, there are lots of things I need to buy for my flat (but that for the moment I can live without) and until I know about my job siutation I wouldn't dream of buying anything I don;t absolutely need

Right? I moved to my current flat over a year ago and still have a huge list of things I need but can live without (my laundry basket is a cardboard box, lol) but there's more important things I need to spend money on - not to mention trying to save!

So... once again followers are the worst people ever for reading a tone from a message / story / caption, but it’s absolutely fine for Sofie to do it, and basically call this person (who asked an absolutely inoffensive and reasonable question) annoying?!

"gross" things get thrown out... so no one else could appreciate them? and do most people break landlord's rules? I cannot recall myself or any of my flatmates ever doing so. Jesus the whole tone of that message... had I already not unfollowed I would be unfollowing now

Nooo don't you realise she's writing that with a smile on her face?? (I find it hilarious to imagine Sofie smiling cheerfully when typing out so many aggressive messages)

I wonder whether Sofie is just generally just an extremely arrogant person or whether they are going through something? I'm just flabbergasted by the level of aggression in response to perfectly well-meaning messages from fans.

It’s just so weird? I have been a big fan but this behaviour is SO off putting. And it’s not even a question to send a message about it because I’d just be called a c*nt, told I have no nuance, get blocked, and then there would be about 10 stories with screen shots of my message talking about how people are so annoying... 🙄

yeah I don't think an excuse could really be her going though some issue... surely she would say that if it were the case?
