Thank you PineappleQueen19.

I never knew that weight training or sleep was so important. I have done a lot of reading from yesterday.
So fingers crossed!

I have done SW and got to target through following the plan. It then all went down hill, I felt there was little support as a target member and it was always “well you know what you are doing”. I am currently nearly a stone away from that target and determined to go it alone to get back where I was.
I'm in exactly the same position but I hit target just before xmas so it wasbt a great time to start "maintaining".
Lots of bad stuff on here about it but to be honest I like it. It has made me eat more fruit and veg and cut down on mammoth portion sizes. I think its changed my mind set for the better but I know a lot hate it
The group I go to isnt very tech savvy and theres never any chat about Instagram
I follow a few sw instagrammers but none of the group leader ones or anything. Mainly for recipe ideas or ideas for snacks.
I dont bother with any of the slimming world hacks like making cakes with egg whites and sweetener 🤢 I stick to tips where I can eat real food and not fall off the wagon.

It definitely does retrain your brain- you have to be receptive to it though I guess- like a cult member 😂 instead of reaching for a bag of crisps I automatically go for the fruit bowl now for a snack etc. Like any plan tho if you stick to it it works.

I lost quite a bit on sw a few years ago and like most people, have put it all back on. Simple fact is it's not sustainable. Doesn't teach you about portion control, calories or nutrition. The minute you need to socialise or are not prepared your immediately "off plan" or "synning" theres no balance. I agree with the user a few posts back saying a lot of the consultants are overweight. Such an oxymoron. Last group I went to the consultant rested her iPad on her pot belly while saying "theres been a few gains this week...lets see who's fault that is". She then proceeded to single out people who had put on a bit of weight. Also went to a group where a mother of the bride was being shamed into losing weight as she wouldnt want to regret not getting at least another 2 stone off for the pictures as no one would want them on their wall 🤯. I ended up with a pretty big following on ig(10k +) and people started flodding my inbox with offers to promote teas and all sorts of nonsense...I deleted the whole thing as its all a massive marketing ploy.

Did sw on and off for about 5 or 6 years. Can never credit any weight loss i ever had with following the diet. I started using MFP which opened my eyes to what i was actually eating. It takes getting used to the weighing of everything but you essentially can have whatever you like once it fits in with your calories which is great. I bought a fitbit aswell which is great for tracking exercise and you can sync it with MFP so if you burn off extra calories they will be added to your total daily calories. Cant afford to join a gym myself so i started doing lucy wyndham reeds youtube workouts which i find great. Combining both the calorie counting and workouts is really working for me and its not costing me anything apart from buying the fitbit. Found with sw because its so low in fat youre constantly hungry, which means youre constantly thinking about food!

I know so many people who are off an on slimming world every single year. It doesn’t actually teach you how to have a good relationship with food, it teaches you how to add up numbers that frankly make no sense half of the time. Focus on eating fruit and veggies, fresh prepared food, watching portion sizes and making sure you’re eating adequate protein and enough food at mealtimes so you’re not snacking.

From someone that had an eating disorder for 7 years slimming world in some ways did 'change my life' in some ways. I spent years and years starving myself and restricting my food, this only stopped once I fell pregnant and I needed to eat for my baby. After having my child I had gained about 6 stone no joke, my metabolism was totally fucked and I gained weight so easily just eating a normal every day diet with a few treats here and there.

I tried eating soups and liquid diets after but ultimately I said enough was enough and I cant starve this weight off so I joined slimming world. I lost about 2.5 stone on it in 3 months. It was the first time in my whole adult life I had ate 3 meals a day and snacked. I ate alot of food, and I cried the first week when I lost 2 lbs, I didnt think I could ever eat and lose weight so it was great.

However, I quit because whilst it's great that you can lose weight eating things like pasta for 'free' the whole syns thing was taking over a bit and I'd never eat my syns and just use them on wine on the weekend, not very healthy lol.

I decided to stop going to group, I joined a gym, and I now still eat my 3 meals a day. I no longer count food as free or syns, but one thing I will say is I have taken some of the basic sw principles and I use that in my own diet now, so for examply hexA/B I will have one serving of wholemeal bread, or grains, whatever a day but I do not limit this to a 60g roll, if i want proper wholemeal bread i will have it. Also with milk/cheese I will decide which one I want that day, and have one of them not both (diary doesnt agree with me but i bleeping LOVE CHEESE)

Ultimately sorry I am rambling but I think if you follow slimmingworld properly (not like harry pickard) and eat 1/3 of your plate veg for most meals and not overdoing it on the bread and cheese it'll probably work! But doing it the wrong way:

Eating pasta (&not weighing it) for every meal will not make you loose weigh
Just because you have 10 syns left over doesnt mean you should binge on crisps and chocolate to use them up
Using your daily syns on sweets or junk is NOT HEALTHY, eat an advocado

Slimming world is good for people who need to be educated on diets, fat or thin, it really helped me change my entire outlook on losing weight!

Sorry for boring you all!

i'm doing ww but online and honestly finding that far better than slimming world i lost very little on slimming world so far not lost on ww but thats my own fault but im doing it more for cooking healthier meals for me and hubby which can only be a good thing when going through ivf right

i had lots of IVF and due to my immunology issue related to pregnancy I had to take steroids all the way through. Needless to say that by the time I parted with my one child I had a gravitational pull to rival Saturn’s. I joined SW and lost 7 stone. I never stayed to the meetings and only kept paying as getting weighed in front of people kept me motivated. I lost all the weight and stopped going, I am no longer on SW but have kept my weight off by exercising and generally not being a piggy! I can’t stand any weight loss group but it did help me!

Is it true that SW is a franchise and the consultants pay £££££ for the initial set up of classes then pay for packs, mags, diarys ect and bits they sell and whats left is theirs?

Yes that's correct. The business model is similar to an mlm business.

When I went my consultant did about 8 session through the week must be raking it in. If you did not go to class she would bombard you with texts telling you to come to class. It got rather annoying as I was having womens problems and at present waiting for Hysterectomy, when I text her back to tell her I would not be coming to class until I got myself sorted she did not even bother to wish me luck/get well soon, class here when you are ready to come back. Nothing, zilch radio silence at the point I realised I am just a bum on a seat, money for her that's all she was bothered about. She is now well and truly blocked. If I do go back in the future it won't be to her class:cautious:

Give Team RH a follow on Facebook, it’ll open your eyes to the likes of slimming world, Herbalife, weight watchers etc etc. Honestly it’s eye opening!
Weigh every day not once a week at a slimming club (take your average for the week)
Have the highest amount of calories that your body will still burn fat, not a silly 800 calorie fad.
Honestly it’s best page/group I’ve ever followed. I’m not affiliated with them in any way!

It does make you so wonder if sw is sustainable for the long term. I've lost three stone on it but I'm up and down at the minute and wonder if it's for me anymore. So many of the big Instagram have put weight back on if not most of it so it really does make me wonder. The plan defo works but it's whether it's long term is the question for me. I didn't go to a group I just did it myself with the help of fb groups I'm glad I didn't pay £5 per week to get weighed
