Something I wonder is for those people who settled for a bad relationship and/or a man who barely helps with the kids/house, do you think they can accept that they might be happier with a different life? Or is that societal pressure of being in a couple/having kids so strong that they don’t think there could be better option out there. Maybe they’re so conditioned to think single life is so unnatural/miserable that they will put up with a life they don’t want.

They're usually mega codependent and assign their own value to their being "chosen" by a man (any man) so I doubt it.

Im
New to this thread. 2 years ago I left my husband after a 24 year abusive marriage.
I live with one of my adult daughters and I LOVE it. I have no intention of letting a man disturb my peace, cause drama or expect me to be his housemaid and counsellor. It’s bliss and I love my freedom, my family and my friends.
After a couple of years, people are starting to ask if I want to start dating again. That’ll be a big, large no!!

To those of you in your 30s, I can promise you it gets a lot better once you’re the other side of 40 (and continues to get better as you get older). I have been on a few activity holidays with strangers this year and they were filled women in their 40s, 50s and 60s who are interesting and active and don’t talk about their husbands and/or children even if they have them. A couple I didn’t know had kids until I’d known them for days

Any tips on which companies are good to book these through? I promise not to mention my kids.

I went on some G Adventures trips, they were really fun. Plenty of women of all ages going solo :) There were a handful of couples but they were generally nice and normal. They also do specific solo trips now!

2026 has been the worst year of my life, with lots of troubles with my flat starting in January, and I had moments where I thought : it would be so much easier with a boyfriend. Tried dating for the first time : turns out I don't want someone, I want to be wealthy enough to never have to worry about material stuff and pay people to deal with unpleasant stuff 🤦‍♀️

G Adventures
Much Better Adventures
Gutsy Girls (women only)
Intrepid travel
Exodus
Explorer

these were all recommended by my guide (on a much better adventures trip) as the companies that engage with local guides and pay them properly

It was one of my friends wedding anniversary this week. I messaged her ahead of it (I can never remember the exact date) just to say happy anniversary, plus pass on some other unrelated info.

Got a big message back about what a fool he was, how unhappy she is, at the end of her tether etc (she's sent similar many times before, he is a right wick and I suspect they stay together more from habit than love, although this did seem a bit worse than usual). I of course was sympathetic and said we should go for lunch soon, my treat. Few further messages exchanged.

Literally days later she's posting on FB about the anniversary and what a great guy he is, whilst they may argue at times, he's made her the happiest she's ever been and she can't imagine being without him 🙄🙄🙄🙄

Honestly I would rather be single. What sort of a relationship is that!

She'll also be buying her own lunch btw 😂😂😂
