Is it the anniversary of Rod Hull’s death or something? Seems odd to be suddenly talking about him.

Oh she was so stunning in Twin Peaks.

My favourite thing about Twin Peaks was, and still is, Julee Cruise's Falling. That song is so atmospheric, and manages to be both depressing and uplifting. As a teenager it made me feel Big Feelings
That is an amazing track, it's still on my Spotify playlist now

Err… I don’t like Beyonce. To be honest I actually can’t fucking stand her.
Should I expect to be struck by lightning or deported?
Nobody I know thinks Beyoncé is any good, just overhyped crap, so there’s a lot of us in that club

I knew Rod Hull had died while trying to fix an aerial but never knew it belonged to Gyles B.

An unapologetic lover of G&S here. It’s my comfort watch. I have no problem with other people disliking it though.

As Neil Tennant's time at Smash Hits was mentioned (and potential gossip), this covers quite a lot of ground:

Frida, George Michael, ABBA, David Bowie, Joni Mitchell, Marc Bolan, Boy George and Jon Moss - and others - discussion about identity and the current-day allegation of 'Smash Hits not having black cover stars' (they all dispute this) are all mentioned (takes a while to get to Smash Hits in the first part, as it talks about Neil's background career-wise):

(With Mark Ellen and Dave Hepworth, from a few weeks ago, 'Word In Your Ear' podcast)
Part 1:
Part 2:

By the way, there's even an ancient Smash Hits-era Boy George joke shared: directed at George Michael (I assume this is one of the tamer ones they could print, Boy George was always making jibes about him - supposedly they became friendly over time):

Why is George Michael always single?
Because you can only get one person in a sunbed.

As I’ve mentioned before I was a specialist nurse in HIV/AIDS palliative care back in those early days .
Yes there were some lads who had no contact with their parents/ had run away as a teen etc .
But there were some whose parents came to see them daily and stayed in their rooms with them when the end was coming .
Part of my job was supporting their relatives and friends afterwards and mum’s would still come in weeks afterwards just for a coffee and a cry on my shoulders .
Yes there was a stigma in those days but for most it was still their much loved child they were losing …I was only in my 20’s then and single , now as a mum who lost one of my children I can really understand the depth of their pain .

I adore Sparks ! So many amazing songs .

Actually, I fluffed that, listening again, the Boy George joke is, Why Doesn't George Michael have a girlfriend? ...oops. Suppose it's more barbed as the word 'girlfriend' is used. And Boy George would've known exactly what he was doing.

(In the podcast) they also talk about Thriller (the iconic Michael Jackson album) almost going 'down the dumper' in its early days (a damp squib Paul McCartney collaboration 'The Girl Is Mine' was the first single) - at one point Epic Records were desperate for journalists to give it publicity as it initially didn't chart well and Smash Hits weren't that keen in the beginning!

David Bowie also watched the rehearsal of that infamous Brits appearance (with Neil around) - where Michael Jackson performed 'Earth Song' ** and called it 'abhorrent' backstage.

** (where Michael Jackson portrayed himself as a messiah healing or blessing children, or something - vomit-inducing to watch at the time - and Jarvis Cocker stormed the stage and took the piss out of him - LEGEND).

Maybe I should have a lie down and the heat is getting to my brain today - David Bowie actually said 'repellent' instead of 'abhorrent'. Sorry! Same thing, really

I always thought the MJ Brits debacle was a real misunderstanding between American and British cultures. Award shows in the US are the opportunity to really brown nose, kiss up and pat yourself on the back for being a saviour to all by singing a note or acting a bit. Some in the UK are a bit more po-faced but the Brits of all places is very tongue in cheek. Setting yourself up as a Christ like figure might have got a standing ovation at the Grammys but not here.

I always knew Calvin Harris and Taylor wouldn’t last. She got more fame from Kanye interrupting her and he broke onto the X factor stage with a pineapple on his head. Very opposing sides of the coin there.

Why won't the press mention the domestic abuse wife beater allegations against Jay Blades? They are obsessed with the failed marriage but not mentioning the full statement his wife made.

Heat, what heat?
Boiling in the Highlands (west coast) .. for once!
It is strange. Wonder if there's legal reasons, but the media would be quoting his wife, and not making assumptions.
