The person who was a celebrity that I really cannot stand is Michael Barrymore. The sad story of Stuart Lubbock came up in my YT feed recently and I watched it.

I always thought MB came across as thick as two short planks but he reveals himself to be a deeply unpleasant character too. How did his "comedy & humour" appeal to the public so much back then?

Must admit anything with Miranda in it was an instant switch off for me, but I read the original book of call the midwife before she was cast as Chummy and they got that one spot on I thought.

I never understood the appeal of Miranda's programme until one night when a friend at a festival contacted me to complain the pills I gave him were duds, so I took 1 to check. They were absolutely not duds and I was left buzzing my jaw off, finding myself absolutely crying with laughter at Mirandas' slapstick japery at 3am. I have felt very fond towards her since.

Sorry to derail the thread. Does anyone know anything about Miranda Hart. She was everywhere at one point and now doesn't seem to be on anything.

I always wondered about her sexuality. Anyone got any gossip?.

With her comedy it seemed to me that people were happy to return and enjoyed being on it.
She had a period of ill health of some sort. She did an interview acknowledging the fact she'd disappeared and explained why. It could have been a joint disorder or something auto immune. I'm not entirely sure she actually named the condition during the interview. It was a while ago so my memory is a bit vague.

That Rebel Wilson thing. I'm sorry but I just cant believe it. Has SBC ever had others complain about him before? The scenario she describes is so odd too. She's told to put a finger up someone's arse? That's weird. On camera? Weirder still as that could never be shown on film. And she did it? Even more bizarro. Doesn't make sense.

And now her book is 'mysteriously delayed'. Sounds like he's called in the lawyers and her publishers have shat the bed.

Just popping this here re the earlier chat about Lily Allen

His age fits but this would have been a soccer match in 1999 not 2009 for her to have been 14.

Also Richard Wilson was only 54 when he started playing Victor Meldrew.
He came to my wedding reception in Glasgow back in 1989.
He had been filming something at BBC Scotland (possibly Only When I Laugh?) and was staying in the same hotel. My old fella got chatting to him in the bar pissed and invited him and he bloody turned up!
Really lovely chap and I think he was just glad to have people to socialise with.

Sick of his face popping up and folk in his comments brown nosing him about how he should be back on telly.

He’s a horrible, self serving, vile waste of skin. The REAL podcast was great on this and shows how much he was obsessed with himself rather than the death (murder) of someone.

I'm pretty sure he was involved in 1999 and 2000 as well, when The Royle Family was a big deal. It would have been called soccer six then though.

I think that's a really wonderful story! Good for him, hope he enjoyed himself!

He definitely did. He wasn’t really that famous then as it was pre-Victor. Just ‘recognisable’ I would say. But you know when you’re on a work training course and the trainer does that ice breaker where you have to tell people something about you that they didn’t already know. “Victor Meldrew came to my wedding reception” is an unusual one to say the least 😉😂
