I think Simon Cowell wanted to make the X Factor more like American Idol and he wanted a male host. To be honest Kate was a terrible host, so wrong for the show and prime time TV in general. A personality vacume.

She did Pop Idols version of Xtra factor im assuming that was how she landed the job
