Scummy Mummies

Helen just isn’t funny anymore. She’s not the relatable dumpy one - she’s now the skinny one, works out and takes her health seriously.
If ever proof was needed of this, check out the solo gig she did at Clapham Grand on Youtube minus Ellie to an audience of mostly non-parents. The jokes fall flat on their face and it's all totally cringe. However when they are a double act they are selling out lots of theatres so there's clearly a big demand for their comedic talents.

She’s still ‘Ms Booze, fags & kebabs 🤘🤪 🤘 but I run a gazillion miles a week too’. There are plenty of women and mums who find healthy lifestyles and running relatable, Ellie was always a slim runner who had a relatively healthy lifestyle. The disordered nature of Helen’s new lifestyle is painful to look at and the furthest thing from funny, which is obviously a bit tricky for a comedian.

She always seems to mock her son and favour her daughter like most insta mums 🙄
You are right, all the insta mums do that and it’s painful. I could list several!! It’s so obvious they favour their daughters. Sad to say but I have real life mums the same way. I only have one son so maybe I’m noticing it more. Thinking about it, my mum definitely favours me over my brother 🤣

My kids are similar ages to hers and I just don't get how she has so much washing and how she's always so knackered. They are no bother at this age, the hard part is getting them off their phones and out of their rooms. It's not like she has to watch them like a hawk and listen to endless stories and questions. It must be part of the marketing for the shows - relate to Mums with young kids as long as possible then try to diversify.

I think it depends on the child re ‘no bother’. Generally I agree with you but my youngest was a very high needs teen and remains so as a young adult, whereas her older siblings are and were much more hands off.

I enjoy a drink so really don’t normally comment (or even notice) when other people do, but Helen does really seem to be putting it away at the moment.

Yep I could make a list too - bet it's the same as yours! 😂

Ironically, I have one boy and two girls and as much as I love all my kids equally, my boy is the most laid back and definitely the most fun to hang out with!

duck knows why.

I was a captive audience at an event they did a gig at once. It’s all shouting, cock jokes and crudeness. It’s not funny in the slightest.

I don’t get how they sell out shows. They’re not funny and even if they were 8 years ago, it’s old hat now.

There must be a never ending supply of new mums or mums going through the toddler years in need of a night out “out” who fill their shows. With that being said, I never found them all that funny. Middle class mummies pretending to be a bit scummy, wanking on about gin and loose pussies (it’s funny because they’re posh and a bit sweary) all seems a bit performative.

Both of them have aged out of the mummy market as their kids are now substantially older, so I wonder how long this schtick will last. Helen is neither fat nor funny anymore and Ellie, although more likeable doesn’t really appear to have any kinda niche.

They are clinging onto the the glory days of the instamum crowd with all their might.

Have they been wheeled out to perform at any “friends” birthday parties or launches recently? It was all so sad!

Ffs why would you waste your time going to a protest of a protest? Why do drag queens want to read to kids in libraries? Are drag queens a gender now? No they’re not. They are adult entertainment and have nothing to do with kids. According to the SM being against it makes you a facist! 🤦🏻‍♀️ idiots.

They can duck off. All the wide eyed nonsense, “what’s wrong with it?” and labelling everyone who doesn’t agree with them a fascist.

Ironic that they are the ones shutting down comments and telling people they are wrong.

I’m not talking about the protest though, I am talking about their attitude of everyone who doesn’t like it is wrong and a fascist. People can have their own views on why they don’t think adult entertainment belongs around children without having fascist views.

Exactly. I’m not a fascist but drag is hypersexualised parody of female stereotypes (with origins in porn). It’s adult ‘entertainment’ that punches down on women, who are the butt of the joke - and none of it has any place around children. Who benefits from drag queens reading to children? My strong sense is that it’s not the children.

Although I’m not surprised that the Scums have come out fighting for men’s right to perform
Drag in front of children.
Handmaidens that they are, their whole act is basically based on internalised misogyny.

I have seen some excellent drag acts in the past done by talented and witty men with great voices. I’ve also seen lazy half-baked ones with misogynistic drag names who seem to think the whole thing is about dressing up rather than performing. Over the years I’ve come to feel more resentful about the caricature of ‘women’ that the current drag craze seems to be.

I see the Scummy Mummies are arguing that the act is moderated for children so not sexually explicit. To an extent I can accept that, assuming the drag queen in question is dressed appropriately and doesn’t have some horrible name like Anna Bortion, but I’m also not sure I really agree that kids really need to be exposed to drag for diversity reasons.

The panto dames thing is also a false analogy to me. Panto dames are about madly over the top outfits - usually NOT sexual in nature - and double entendres that tend to be about the dame’s lack of success with men. If anything, it’s a fairly offensive depiction of post-menopausal women, but good dames are FUNNY (like good drag queens) to offset that.

I don’t think it’s as clear cut as they make out - so many nuances. But we’re not allowed any shades of grey now are we?

Brilliantly put. Tbh found the frenetic ‘ooooh let’s find me a fascist’ stories pretty cringe and distasteful.

Me too. I thought more of Ellie to be honest. They just looked like complete knobs. It actually seemed like Helen didn’t even want to be there (she was extremely hangover right enough). Imagine protesting IN FAVOUR of drag queens reading to kids. Bizarre.
