Janet is right. Not all us men are bad. It doesn't matter about race, age, sex or anything else. Each group has good and bad people. Men murder men. This case has been horrible and her family and friends will live with it on their minds forever. I can't imagine their grief and it's being played out in public. He's a creepy perv who's not going to see light of day ever again as well as being a murderer.

Of course we all know that 'all men aren't bad', but how the duck are we supposed to know which ones *are* bad?

If I gave you a bag of Maltesers and told you that one was poisoned would you eat them?

Also, every single woman (and girl) I know has a story about been harrassed/threatened or worse by a man....so we know it isn't *all* of you. But it is a bleeping huge amount of you!

I am like a broken record around my children regarding consent. They are a boy & girl both under 10 but it is so important and I really hope this generation grows up to be better.

For me this is things like if ever I take a picture I ask if I can send it to daddy/family whatsapp or put on facebook and sometimes they say no and that is fine. My daughter covered her face in bubbles in the shower the other day and asked me to take a silly picture, I did then asked to send it to a female relative and she said no as her private parts were visible in the picture (I didn't realise). It was such a proud moment of her taking autonomy over her body, so I deleted it. My son now insists the door is closed when he changes and I knock and ask permission if I can come in. I also make him knock the door if I am in the bedroom or bathroom with the door closed. All really small, really simple things but help build a foundation of respect for others which leads into adulthood.
Love this. And will definitely use these in practise when my son grows up. He is almost 2 .

But you know nothing about "the man" all you keep talking about is Ukraninian or "foreign" women marrying british men and how bad it is. What do you actually know about "the man"? All you know is what the gossip newspapers have written which hasn't given us any information about him personally or his relationship, just his name, wifes name and an article with her mother from a newspaper which generally isnt a trusted source. I havent seen a single article or social media post saying anything negative about him or his family personally other than the obvious of him commiting an absoloutly hurendous crime.
I never said marrying a British man was “bad”. By all accounts Ted Bundy was a lovely, charming guy, but there was something inherently wrong with him.

I know all about how women are treated by a minority of men. I have sisters, neices who are grown women and a great neice who will grow up having to deal with idiot men I want to smash on her behalf. I have believed for years that school teaches a lot of rubbish you don't need to know and will never use again and that a lot of the curriculum could be scrapped and more useful things that set you up for adult life could be taught instead and one of the things would be about how you treat others alongside mental health.

I'm sorry but I find your comment totally unacceptable and part of the problem. Before you sympathise with this woman's family and friends you make a point about not all men being bad. It's not the time or place to defend men. If you aren't bad then LISTEN right now. Men murdering men is no argument!

As a woman from eastern Europe, I find some of the stereotypes in this thread quite appalling. I've spent a few summers in the UK and people constantly tell me that they're surprised about my English language proficiency and, to be honest, it's quite offensive.

I've been following this case closely and my heart breaks for this young woman and her friends and family. I hope they find closure and that he rots in jail for the rest of his miserable life.

Thanks for highlighting the article. I’ve read it and am really pissed off. I think Janet has really missed the point here. Male on male crimes are taken seriously. Male on female crime is much less so - just look at all the stories people have shared where police / loved ones have shrugged it off & laughed? The fear is real, because you know if you’re grape/sexually assaulted you are going to face an uphill battle to get it through the courts & get a guilty verdict. Not to mention, your whole character and background gets assassinated. That’s if you’ve survived it in the first instance! The problem is with the way women are viewed as objects, not subjects and that’s the fundamental issue that needs to be addressed. So, thanks Janet for your stats, they don’t make me feel any safer in the slightest 😡😥

Considering they were both online, I think they both probably had their own agendas or were just lonely 🤷🏼‍♀️
Yes quite plausible. But there are websites for foreign women to seek Brit
Without actually knowing the wife I think it very unfair to make a judgement of her. For all we know she could have helped him get rid of the body, hidden clothes or simply given him an alibi. OR she may not have had a clue what he had done and could have simply been arrested as a matter of protocol for simply being his wife. She was released on bail fairly quickly. He may have given her a story which was seemingly innocent and told her to back his version of events. I’m sure once she realised what he’d done her story would have changed - if that is what happened. None of us know and making remarks about her is a little unfair until the full story is out.
I agree with most of what you have said entirely. Except for the unfair to discuss her. That’s where we will agree to disagree as she will be open to discussion and rightly so.

Do they really? That shocks me
Usually I have foreigners apologise to me for their “bad English” and i am always gobsmacked because their English is fine bearing in mind the most I can say in any other language is bs like “das ist ein hund” (that is a dog) looool

Sadly, yes, both in academic circles and casual encounters. Some of them treat me to this backhanded compliment even after I tell them that I'm an English major.

Sorry if anything I’ve said has offended you, that’s never my intention. I have the upmost respect for someone who can leave their home country, learn a new language and way of life to be with the person they love.
I hope you understand that my comments were based on a small proportion of marriages and I was thinking about the mans personality rather than judging the foreign spouse in any way.

That foreign spouses are more vulnerable to domestic abuse? Sadly thats true and I stand by it. It may not be the case for this lady, but we’re here to discuss the possibilities.

It’s only just dawned on me that as women we are really just surviving everyday. That we don’t know when our last moment is because spineless cowards who think violence is the answer to having their way with us can take that from us. It is so scary to wake up everyday and not know which day will be your last if a man decides they’re going to take it from you. Men are so bleeping scary.

Also - a few comments have stated “she only gave him an alibi”

But - this is a serious lie....

There are a few elements to this..

Physical violence on women

“Date” / social setting abuse

Work setting abuse (banter)

Subtle, violating conversational abuse - this is the one that I have been exposed to and I felt horrible afterwards.

That poor woman, cannot imagine what her family & friends must be feeling right now. It’s horrific.

Why do we as women have to listen to men tell us it’s not them? Why do we have to soothe them and pander to their fragile egos?! Why have they got to interject and explain that they’re a nice guy? It’s tiresome.

Absolutely, but I think people are discussing the context of the lie - did she know exactly what had happened to Sarah and lied, or was she just told to lie about something that didn't seem like a big deal?

'Not all men' is everywhere right now and it's completely taken me aback. It just demonstrates the level of the problem when this is the response of a huge amount of people after a woman was abducted and probably sexually assaulted and murdered by a serving police officer. My brain cannot unwrap this level of horror right now. But for people to respond to that by saying 'men kill men too' is just too much for me right now. I'm so bloody angry.
