I've yet to see a single person comment on this case who hasn't made some reference to presumed guilt. The thing is none of us had even heard of this individual until the media heavily reported on his arrest for kidnap and murder, so it's not like people have gone out of their way to accuse a fully unassociated innocent, ofcourse people are going to believe that means (especially in this instance where the police wouldn't affect their reputation accusing one of their own unjustly) that is all but set in stone. It would take them eternity to charge every single person commenting on socials for contempt.
Check my posts, I haven't.
I am tired of people saying in this thread that others are trying to police what they say. No one is trying to do that. All anyone I have seen try to do is to just educate on what contempt of court is. It's really important that Sarah gets justice. Comment away on the facts of the case, what has been made publicly available etc however please try to think of what benefit is going to come from posting about the accused in a way that presumes guilt.
I and others have shared links to the CPS & government websites which clearly states what contempt of court is. It's not that difficult to understand. Yes, it's unlikely someone is going to be pouring over these posts and reporting them to the defence so they can build an argument of an unfair trail but really, does anyone here really want to risk it? I don't.
I am not trying to police what people say. Yes, there is likely going to be comments made which are contempt of court all over the internet. There is no way to stop that. This case is HUGE and people have very strong feelings about it. But we are responsible for what is posted HERE and I don't want to add to the problem and I am sure others here don't want to add to it either.
