Since people couldn't sit them, teachers were asked to submit predicted grades for students and rank them based on their mock exams, any in class tests, things like that. This was all submitted to the government who then moderated the results. Of course, the government decided it knew all these students better than the teachers that have taught them for two years and moderated the results based on previous averages for the school and on averages for all subject areas. So basically, if a school year was particularly high achieving compared to previous years and students were set to achieve results like AAA, they were moderated down to something like BCC because the school had never got good results like this before. Similarly, if a school had an amazing maths department but a terrible chemistry department, students who might have got an A* in maths would receive a C because the school's bad chemistry department brought down the average. Unsurprisingly, schools in poorer and more deprived areas have worse grades and as such those students were affected the most, meaning that many students who are from heavily deprived areas who had high predicted grades were moderated down, and many have lost the opportunity to go to the universities they applied to because of the government's algorithm moderating their grades down. I hope that makes sense but it's a bit complicated!
I'll also add that the government's rhetoric was that this was all about providing students opportunities to 'level up', but their algorithm basically meant those who went to private school didn't have their results moderated down so they're allowed places in the top universities whereas students from deprived areas who had the opportunity to be the first in their families to go to university lost out because of the moderation. It's basically a huge mess and, in a country like the UK that already has many class problems, has just exacerbated the gap between the working class and everyone else.

this is honestly so random but i'm glad i found this thread. i have been blind in idolizing ruby for years now and i'm glad that this thread have made me realize some things.
She sure has a theatre kid inside somewhere with the continuous performing in various ways.

I’m sorry but this is actually nuts. Who schedules in something relaxing like watching YouTube? That just defeats the whole purpose of relaxing if you’re more bothered about ticking something off a list. Also, does she just never watch a film or binge watch a TV series?

I could see Ruby as a primary school teacher, maybe even a good one if she didn't fall too much to the strict teacher side because that's her Victorianised idea of teaching, and I think she would be good at encouraging a love of reading, but she'll always have negative associations with high school due to her own experiences not fitting in.
Yes, she is very cringe but I can also think of about a billion cringey things I did at 19 too. She has faults but I just think they’re more tolerable than, say, Jade’s incessant MLM positivity.

the note for the postman is a nice thing to do but it reminds me of my first ever proper uni exam where a girl told me she’d written a thank you note for our lecturer at the end of her essay (not really a thing you would do where i’m from at all)
I didn't get that. Some of my friends studying politics stayed up all night to watch since it's their sort of thing, but other than doing a paid ad for the Tories when has Ruby ever shown any interest in politics to the extent she'd stay up like that?

As harsh as this might sound I don’t feel sorry about her Oxford rejection at all, not one bit. Ruby has a ridiculous amount of privilege and I could be wrong here, but I doubt she’s ever experienced academic rejection before. I think it broke her heart to think that all her studying didn’t pay off, but it’s an important life lesson to learn that you don’t always get everything you want even when you put in the work. Some lessons are learnt the hard way, I thought it would develop her as a person but it’s quite pathetic to see that she moped and threw her toys out the pram - I get it upsetting but in life there will be many lessons like this, some that your privilege and connections won’t be able to fix. She needed to learn this sooner or later...
She wouldn’t survive being a teacher... she doesn’t really have the social skills, not only that, she would have to work to such tight deadlines and multi tasking, I don’t think she’d cope, sadly. I get the impression that she wouldn’t be able to juggle all the responsibilities in her incredibly regimented life. A lot of my family are teachers, so I can vouch for this.
What video did she say about Ruby and her virginity? I must have missed that - that’s really uncomfortable! Martha makes me cringe, it’s like she plays up to this wild child persona because of Ruby. Quite sad really...Her sister is insufferable man, I used to think she was ok until I saw the video she posted where her and her mates are talking about how they want to take rubys virginityI just found it so disrespectful. Tried to give her another go with her latest covid video but I ended up skipping through it bc I actually just found it cringe, honestly people say ruby is immature but shes actually very mature compared to her sister.

From what I've read, her dad works in finance in London and her mum does a variety of different things. I think she's an optometrist assistant but has also worked as an aromatherapist..?
I don't think her parents force her, they both seem really normal in her vlogs and her sister definitely isn't as academic as her (I think she even got excluded from college before). I think its Ruby pressuring herself to excel academically for whatever reason rather than anyone else forcing her

Lool imagine being the housemates and seeing it online? I guarantee that would’ve caused tension and they probably lost a bit of respect for her after that. I know I certainly would if someone recorded me and posted it on the internet instead of just telling me to shh
She definitely buys into the whole ‘dark academia’ aesthetic a bit too much without acknowledging that it’s problematic, especially since she is very obviously established middle class

Tbh I don’t see that much wrong with the water thing. I can’t speak in a morning before I’ve had a glass of water so I have toHer morning routine video is bizarre for so many reasons?
1. It's a video from when she was at uni... but she moved back home. And she hasn't mentioned that on YouTube yet? Surely that makes a big difference to her routine?!
