I'm all for calling people out but I feel like some people just get way too invested to the point that it's concerning.

Reading that made me feel so uncomfortable.
Agreed, I think most things on here are fair game bc at the end of the day its a gossip site, and theres plenty of stuff about ruby to criticise and speculate about, but hating on someones weight like that is way too far! Especially when shes not even fat.
I read further back and the worst thing is that poster speculates that ruby actually reads the thread, and then continues to talk about ruby potentially having an ED etc all while calling her fat? Smh

I wonder if she'll end up reapplying to Oxford? I think her main issue of why she was rejected the first time was her interview just didn't go well and she isn't much of an original/deep thinker, she just did well on her A levels and likes to study excessively... Exeter was definitely a better fit even though she took it pretty hard at first since it was basically her dream from age 12. I think she's matured a bit from those days but I'd be curious if she does apply again in the future, hopefully she would save telling her audience until after she got accepted because otherwise it would be a bit awkward if she just got rejected again and got their hopes up..
I feel like she may reapply for her master's but yes, I imagine if she ever did, she'd keep it quiet incase she was unsuccessful the second time.

I did feel sorry for her when she was rejected especially as it was her childhood dream however, I do think in a later video, she responded to it well.

She said that she was glad in away as it taught that it's okay to fail and she will not always to be good at everything. I found that to be a good lesson for her.

I feel like that she should have been instilled to her at an early age. I feel like her parents aren't ones to teach her life lessons that she doesn't need to be absolutely perfect all the time. And that education isn't the be all and end all. It makes me feel bad for Martha having to compete with Ruby all the time.

I know someone who went to Oxford and I know they like you to have other interests and hobbies rather than just have brilliantly academic you are. I wonder if the lack of other interests could have been part of her downfall as well?

As I was once told, work smart not hard. Ruby seems to faff a lot with her her time, rather than writing what needs doing she just micromanages her time and when you schedule too much in, it’s not effective or efficient

I saw that post. I did think it was a silly thing to put on her caption. I don't think the 19th century was a good time, she needs to stop romantising it.

Well she is privileged in the sense she has the option to go home but I don’t think it’s in a ‘check your privilege’ type fashion, however I can understand that students that are stuck and cannot leave but wanting to will feel crappy.

I would like her to address being paid for sharing the hands face space ad she did, I think personally for me that’s pretty disgraceful to take money from the govt and struggling NHS to reiterate something we already see advertised everywhere. That is privilege, she absolutely does not *need* the money, anyone can see she is quite affluent, perhaps she was naive taking the ad but I’d still like her to address her commenters questions regarding it. She is 20, and needs to stop acting so child-like, seriously.

Yeah I agree, everyone is being a bit harsh.
It’d be weird if she actually lived in the house she owns and moved out of that to live with her parents. All she’s done is love back home whilst classes are online. Not everyone is that fortunate but I know if I were in her shoes I’d be considering it.

I think it’s unfair to judge based on speculation. As far as I’m aware we don’t know the true reason she’s moved back home. Has her housemate moved back home too and she didn’t want to be alone? Is she not enjoying spending most of her time in her house alone/only with her housemate? Does she have a health condition that’s she not disclosed (which she doesn’t have to) so is playing it safe?

I’m certain some unis were not allowing people to enroll unless they were paying rent somewhere. she could have been stuck renting somewhere knowing her classes were online and not being fully committed to living there during a pandemic.

Maybe she presumed that temperament must have something to do with temperature and therefore weather?

Yep, if she's not overusing words like beautiful and aesthetic, she's saying phrases that actually mean nothing ("I'm glad I live in a world whioch has Octobers" - what does that even mean?!) or words which sound like they come straight out of a thesaurus. It makes her language use very prescriptive.
It reminds me of the episode of friends when joey uses the thesaurus

Their entire post history is the same :/ One of the other concerning statements they made was only a few days ago, basically blaming her for getting bullied

Ehh, I don't think Ruby has a crush on her friend. I just think she's so used to her friends back home being her cousins she's a little awkward around people who aren't family?

It's nice knowing I'm not alone in my thoughts!

I know you shouldn't compare but Astrid (on YouTube) was an English Literature student at Cambridge and she seems a lot more intelligent, in a sense of naturally clever.

You'll see what I mean if you watch one of her videos.

I like ruby, I do, but I feel like a lot of her intelligence is not independent thought, like you say. It's mainly stuff she's read or picked up on. The fact she memorises texts and poems, and spends so much of her time studying. Also, seemingly making more work for herself and spending 11 hours on work which seems excessive for any student.

I don't know, she just seems overly studious and even with the way she comes across, not that clever, not really.

I find her sister to be a bit obnoxious, I've checked her social media out of curiosity through Ruby a while ago and noped out. She is a teenager though and I guess her whole persona and aesthetic fits with what's in right now, so I can't judge her too hard for that.

Hey all! Long time lurker here. I often see you post about Ruby's private schooling and I was wondering if you would genuinely judge / hold it against someone if they went through private education? For example, if someone acted completely 'normal' (whatever that means) and was aware of their privilege, yet still went to private school, would you hold it against them?
No, I’m actually a little bit jealous in all honestly, I’d have loved that kind of school environment where there are smaller class sizes, more academic focus. I really craved that. In my seminars at uni I did learn alongside students who went to private schools and they were lovely. I think you do get extreme examples of students who don’t recognise their privilege but on the whole, no I wouldn’t judge.

I actually can't deal with how she says acaDAYmia, I find it so irrationally annoying 🤣 Also someone pointed it out in the comments and she's trying to say it's just her regional accent hahaha a) that's not anyone's regional accent, b) you don't have a regional accent because you've spent so many years coaching it out of yourself

Seems like the commenters on her Instagram are picking up on the fact that she didn't explicitly state who was paying her to promote the app.

I think Ruby is harmless but I do worry that she lets academia define her.

Said it before, I don't think it's good that she's cooped up in her room all the time, studying.

She really needs other hobbies. I'm glad she's appearing a lot more sociable since she transferred courses.

Ruby reminds me a lot of my cousin. She's spent much of life being an academic but has zero social skills or other interests.

I don't think her upbringing is "weird" though. Her family seems nice. I said it before but Martha is only young, I'm sure she's just trying to establish who she is.

Must be hard having a sister who is obsessed with perfectionism, grades and academics. She may feel inadequate (obviously she shouldn't though as grades only mean so much)

Her house seems so interesting and beautiful but it's so cluttered. I've only watched a few videos so maybe it was just some bad days but the mess everywhere would drive me mad lol. The landscaping outside their house seems absolutely gorgeous though, must be a very big house to have so much land.

I know. I'm saying that in Latin it would be aca-day-mia, and that both are now in common usage. Much like everyone says Mo-ay when it should be M-wet - we assume the word is French, and pronounce accordingly when it is actually Dutch. However, both are now right because language evolves and moves.
They're definitely not both in common usage though lol, I've never heard anyone other than Ruby call it aca-day-mia

Some things I picked up in her latest video:

- I find it weird that she's still uploading uni routines without updating the narration to mention she's at home? I'd guess this routine is about 3 weeks old by now.
- I'm quite sad for her that she did go home considering how well her and Blakeney seem to get along. I hope Blakeney is also okay.
- Journalling a coronavirus update every night? She says it will be interesting but imo seems to point to even more anxiety.
- This vlog was filmed after she had already decided to come home. Journal says she'd decided to remote learn that day and confirmed it with the uni. (I wonder if she'd told Blakeney)
- In the 'good things that happened today' section of her journal it says "found out that Martha is coming home too!" So Martha also seems to have come home from Sheffield. Perhaps at their parents' insistence? I honestly thought Martha would have preferred to stay.
- She writes in her journal how "London is already on tier two lockdown; I don't understand why Exeter isn't" - more covid anxiety, maybe contributing to her decision to come home
Seeing as it was teir 3 it was against the rules too travel in and out Sheffield 😡😡 I understand they’re students but the rules apply to everyone. It’s really frustrating too see influencers broad cast blatant rule breaking!

Ruby’s book reviews are pathetic for lack of a better word. I really enjoy watching booktubers and their reviews are always really in depth (without giving too much away) and really makes me want to read the books they have. Most of these people didn’t study literature either! Just simply enjoy reading

Ruby’s reviews rarely go further than ‘I enjoyed it’ or ‘it was good’. I don’t think I’ve ever picked up a book she’s spoken about because I have no idea what the book is about or if it’s actually enjoyable to read.

I agree with everyone, she doesn’t strike me as someone who is overly intelligent past memorising content. But that’s okay, nothing wrong with that (I’m not the most intelligent person out there either) but because she wants to be, she puts so much unnecessary pressure on herself to do these weirdly inappropriate 10+ hour study days and gets herself down when she’s not performed as well as she was hoping. Life isn’t all about grades and I do worry for her when she finishes uni and has to get a real job

Fair play to her for addressing the fact its a very Eurocentric and white dominated aesthetic though, she doesn’t often talk about stuff like that
I thought it sounded like she had read here and took on board our discussions about dark academia a few pages back...
