Anyone noticed how she's had that dead lavender plant on her desk for ages? She should just get a fake one that doesn't shed everywhere.

calling Little Women “dark academia” shows she completely misunderstands the whole concept 🤣
there's her inspo

look at some of the book suggestions

Academia Nuts []
I actually can't deal with how she says acaDAYmia, I find it so irrationally annoying 🤣 Also someone pointed it out in the comments and she's trying to say it's just her regional accent hahaha a) that's not anyone's regional accent, b) you don't have a regional accent because you've spent so many years coaching it out of yourself

She went to school in High Wycombe - she doesn’t have a regional accent!! What a Womble. HW isn’t posh at all. It’s nice but no ones talking as Ruby does.

Haha oh man, it’s not like “academia” has vowels that tend to differ in dialect (like the a in bath, glass, past etc. or the dreaded scone/scone debate). She probably says acaDAYmia to sound fancier but just looks silly.

Or to sound like Hermione Granger. I was watching a Yt video of Hermione’s most memorable moments the other day, and it struck me how Ruby still forces her pronunciation to sound like Emma Watson’s embodiment of the character.

Random side note but: does anyone know what happened RE Ruby buying a house?

I remember her posting the video a year or two ago with a house she'd bought (which seemed crazy to me at the time as she's younger than me & it'll be years until I will be in that position) and then it (along with any mentions of the house buying process etc) were suddenly scrubbed from the internet. Does anyone know if something went wrong or if she changed her mind and decided to make her being a landlord private?

I just watched the dark academia video - so basically all you have to do is study, wear a shirt and jumper and listen to film soundtracks ??🤣 but it is so annoying how she says academia, and why does she go on about how great knowledge and learning is - like isn’t that the point of being in education, you don’t need an aesthetic to tell you that

I dunno if she is a landlord, but if she is I can imagine its something she would want to keep private as she would probably get a lot of questions about it and also probably get slated for it

She's a landlord to the house, which is why I think she's keeping it private now since someone else lives in that place and she's respecting their privacy.

In Ruby's defence, her sister is also well spoken. I have a well spoken voice and that's not because I'm posh, it's just how I talk. I get tit for it a lot but I can't help it. Even my own family take the Mick out of me for it as they've all got accents.

I don't think there's anything wrong with the way she talks. She definitely takes a lot of inspiration from Emma Watson.

However, I think Ruby mainly speaks that way to appear more academic, in my opinion at least.

I'm from a similar area to Ruby and grew up in a similar background (don't worry I got a huge reality check when I went from a strict boarding school to a far more liberal university and am far from the tory loving snob I used to be) and no one pronounces academia like that round here

Hey all! Long time lurker here. I often see you post about Ruby's private schooling and I was wondering if you would genuinely judge / hold it against someone if they went through private education? For example, if someone acted completely 'normal' (whatever that means) and was aware of their privilege, yet still went to private school, would you hold it against them?
Ooh, what a good discussion point! I don't hold it against people (went to Exeter myself, huge private school demographic) and some of my closest friends from uni had a very privileged upbringing. However I DO find it difficult to get behind the idea that you get a "better" education just because you can afford to pay for it. This is also coloured however by the fact I teach in the state education system, mind!

When I was at school, my parents weren't sure if we would get into the school of their choice as we were out of the catchment area (we did get in) so were considering private school, just because the options weren't so good for us if we couldn't get to our first choice. They weren't keen, though. I am very aware of being in position where that could have been a possibility for us, but on a social conscience level I'm quite glad it worked out the way it did. I don't think I would ever be able to align teaching in a private school with my own personal principles. That said though I can totally see the benefit of them, I just find it difficult to get my head around being able to have a "better" shot at life because you can afford to pay for it. It's a sad truth of society, though! Political (ish) rant over now, I do apologise! This isn't me having a go at anyone who did go to a private school, by the way, because it doesn't make YOU (or your family!) bad people and I know it can be really beneficial and be a really positive step towards being able to be in a great position with your future and the choices and doors it opens for you. I just find the concept tricky...

I do, however, think that sometimes Ruby doesn't realise her privilege. She is socially conscious, I think, but I feel like she just hasn't had to acknowledge her privilege much in her life.

Guys I’m having an identity crisis because I pronounce academia the same as Ruby🤣
I’m from a rough council estate in Yorkshire, so not a ‘poshness’ thing for me! I wonder if it’s just from Ruby...

Oh common she’s one of the “excetera” people. I’m not the least surprised by “Acadaymia”

I liked her dark acadAYmia video but I would prefer she showed less of her head.
Also -imo- it was very out of touch with the ‘pace’ of the aesthetic.

The white panelled room with the fireplace where she has filmed stuff is a confusing space to me. It is my dream room, but it seems empty, and it seems like quite a grand almost hall like room with high ceilings, despite her home appearing otherwise a more cottage style home (a large cottage albeit). I know her parents are well off but why do they have a grand yet vacant hall in their cottagey home? I'm so confused

It seems a bit cold and bare, doesn't it?
