Rubys insta story - talking about A level results in what I'm assuming is a paid ad and how there are always options regardless of A level result etc etc

idk I feel it kind of poor taste to talk about how disappointed she was in her A in Religious Studies. A lot of people were downgraded so much they lost out on a university place, I've seen people online who have been rejected from all 5 they applied to because they were downgraded so much. Some people were predicted As and got Cs. I've seen people being given Us.
An A will still get you into most unis. I understand her being disappointed when she was aiming for an A* but I don't think now is the time to talk about that when there are people out there having to rethink their futures. Seems a tad out of touch in my opinion...
Yes it's hugely tone deaf of her: this year's cohort were systemically downgraded by the government's algorithm which favours private education and affluent areas. 100% not the same thing, but Ruby doesn't really have much nuance in her thoughts so I'm not really surprised that she thinks these situations are remotely comparable (e.g. all of her book reviews are "it's so so good, it's beautifully written").

I don't enjoy her writing style at all
It’s as though she’s read a lot and thinks she can write. If I didn’t know I would’ve thought it was written by a 17 year old.

Exactly! Like as far as I’m aware the word temperament is usually used to describe somethings mood / character, but its only really appropriate to use for sentient beings, not for the weather lol. Its so true though, she really doesn’t know the true nuanced meaning of a lot of the words she uses and it makes her writing sound so shit
Maybe she presumed that temperament must have something to do with temperature and therefore weather?

Yep, if she's not overusing words like beautiful and aesthetic, she's saying phrases that actually mean nothing ("I'm glad I live in a world whioch has Octobers" - what does that even mean?!) or words which sound like they come straight out of a thesaurus. It makes her language use very prescriptive.

I really like Ruby and her videos but I would love to see her eating a wider variety of food and, maybe, go on a date. Not film a date as that could be off-putting for the lucky person but make reference to socialising and letting her hair down. She just reminds me of my cousin who was very studious at that age but couldn't cope in the real world when he left uni. He is much older than me (wrong side of 40) and I don't think that he has ever had a gf or been on a date.

I was definitely the one in seminars who read the book then winged it rather than writing lots of notes of what I might say. It depends on the lecturer I guess. Mine tended to like spontaneous discussion.
Me too! I found I actually made better notes based on the class discussion and people making points based on my ideas than if I'd made pages worth of notes myself beforehand. Seems like a waste of time to me. And when Ruby and her flatmate set aside time to discuss the text together before the seminar it seems like a way to fill up time but maybe that's just me as I don't like group study.

Do we know what her parents' professions are? I wonder why she is so intensely focused on academia and why she puts so much pressure on herself. Every minute of her day has to be filled with something learning related, it's madness. At first I thought it was a total persona for her channel but the more I watch her the more I realize it's an actual problem. Maybe her parents forced her to do good in school when she was younger because they are both academics and now she has in ingrained in her that she must succeed.

Whats the situ with her rent then is she just gonna keep paying it on the flat or what?
Student accommodation tenancy agreements usually (if not always) stipulate that you must continue paying rent until the end of the contract term unless 1) you find a replacement tenant, or 2) have serious medical grounds or similar. Therefore I would presume she's still going to pay, especially if she plans to return in January.

Yo hold up, shes bought a house??
Yeh it was a cottage. She didn’t give much information but she did a video on it last year I think (she stayed there overnight). IIRC she was planning to rent it out and then move into it eventually (post uni I guess).

Does anyone else think it was also odd that she was wearing it back to front?? Later on she changed it and it seemed to have a quite obvious v neck front to it. I can understand inside out (we’ve all done it 😂) but not backwards on a top with a clear front and back. Her mum also pointed it out to her and she replied in a kind of jokey sarcastic way ‘oh dear’ and didn’t seem bothered about changing it. I might be looking into it too much but does anyone else think that she wanted us to see that label?? Especially because it seemed like her mum made a point of pointing it out (which easily could have been done off camera).
yes I saw that! very strange attention seeking behaviour?!

Yes his channel is tanking now, and you can see the desperation, bless him!
Bet he's seething in a corner thinking: "If they'd accepted me into Oxford, I'd be doing so much better now!" I wonder if Ruby thinks the same - if she'd gone to Oxford, her videos would have been more aesthetic.

Anyone see in her latest video she's worried she may possibly have coronavirus as she's feeling ill and has a fever? So she took the precaution to not visit her grandparents BUT happily spends time with her sister and mum watching tv together...
Surely if you think you may have the virus you self isolate in your room away from anyone, even the people you live with??

I've not yet managed to order anything, just been following their instagram for a while, but this is good to know, thank you. I hate buying something to find the quality is poor.
I just expected more for the amount of money that I spent. I bought a cardigan which was an odd fit and it felt as though it had shrunk in the wash. The texture of the material was really, really odd. I also bought a blouse which was, again, a very strange fit - far too short and the collar was really tight. Tbh, it made me feel fat.

Not sure why that happened - try searching for the name of the group in Facebook? It’s definitely still there and pretty active. There’s multiple posts on there every day. Usually people looking for book recommendations. Occasionally someone will do a post saying they’re disappointed Ruby isn’t involved in the group and they usually get piled on.
Oh yes, I can see it now. I've requested to join just to see what's like, then I'll peace out again.

Edit: Wow, Ruby really isn't anywhere to be seen, is she? She should have made it clearer that she would hand it over to others to run if that's what she planned to do.
