I like ruby, she does seem quite sweet natured.

However, I do think she definitely needs other hobbies though as you worry how she'll end up when she leaves university. What will she do when she goes into the world of work?

She definitely seems to have gotten better with socialising of from what I can tell since she's been at Exeter from what I can gather.

However, I really think, like a lot of these study tubers she would benefit from a part time job. Get some social skills and life skills. I don't understand how you could let your child study as long as she does, it seems a bit obsessive. I understand it's technically a job doing YouTube but even working in a café or something would do her some good.

Can't be mentally healthy being cooped in your room and getting glum about getting a "low" 1:1.

I would love to see a tour of Ruby's house. I'm sure in a recent vlog it was mentioned that her parents were livining in a different part of the house because they weren't well. Just how big is it?!

Pretty sure she only stated she sanitised her hands between each book after it was discussed here, as I can’t remember seeing her doing that or mentioning it in her Waterstones video?
If she’s really accepted money from the gov or the nhs to promote hand washing then wow, I have no words. Influencers really only do things when being paid don’t they

I think as an aesthetic it’s fine - it’s just the idea of historically less inclusive schools and universities being a main driver of said aesthetic. I think buying into the exclusivity of it knowingly and without openly discussing is problematic but the aesthetic itself is gorgeous and I love it!

The whole dark academia aesthetic being centered on exclusive universities like Oxbridge makes me think Ruby is still somehow hung up on Oxford, like the aesthetic is a way for her to feel a part of this idea of roaming the hallowed halls and libraries of Oxford, like it seems like an aspirational thing for her

The one where she goes to Ikea, I think right at the end of the video. They were trying to be funny I guess, but I found it disturbing, plus ruby wasn’t there when they said it so its not like she was even part of the joke

This may seem harsh but I wondered if I was alone in my thoughts.

Ruby spends so much time studying, I'm not saying she's not clever but I feel like it doesn't come to her naturally which is why she spends so much time doing it. Also, doing unnecessary work in the process?

I think she would have struggled at Oxford as they have so much work and tight deadlines.

Her interaction with Blakeney seems a little forced. Like "heyyy look how great our friendship is, we sing together and chop vegetables together YAY!"

Yeah, I worry about her having a normal job, if she ever gets one. I can't see it either. I feel like she'll probably end up doing a master's, PhD and then wanting to write.

Obviously we don't know what happens at home but I'm honestly amazed her parents allow her to spend her time studying.

As soon as I turned 16, my parents were keen for me to get a little job so I could earn a bit of money and develop skills including social ones.

I just find it out that she's cooped up in her room for hours and her parents are okay with that.

If that was my daughter, I would be telling her to go do some part time work or go out and be more sociable.

It's good to be studious but I do worry she doesn't have any other hobbies.

I'm glad she didn't get into Oxford as I think it would have gotten worse However, it's more after university that I worry for her.

Not shitting on her, I really like ruby, just out of concern really.

That poster on gg has always made me so uncomfortable I’m glad it’s been mentioned, they seem a good bit older than ruby and I’m pretty sure they’re American. It’s sad and cruel imo

I think Miss Patina must be ethical given the prices and the fact Ruby justifies every item of clothing she wears as being '10 years old' but doesn't do so when showing clothes from them. I've never really looked into their clothing but just from the website the prices are crazy.

They are made in China which says it all really. I've bought a few pieces which I promptly returned because their sizing is strange and the quality is shite.

I don’t get it, in her latest blog she makes a point of having lots of tea and filling her hot water bottle up as their student house is cold, yet on Instagram she was boasting about working in a cold room at her parents?

I could never bring myself to do power poses, it's just too cringey.

Looking at her Insta, I feel like one of Ruby's motivations to move back home was the abundance of aesthetic things she can do there which she can't do in Exeter. She probably got too used to having all those opportunities around her in the 7 months she just at home doing little else, and now the reality of trying to continue life as normal is hitting her.

She lives in UK. I don’t think her country would be affected badly by the election outcome like some other countries. She is all like “Look, I’m all about the politics. I follow the news.” I call it BS.

I wonder how she feels about Eve being there, and I bet Ruby would probably know friends from her school there too.

I honestly think Oxford would have crushed Ruby. I know a few Oxbridge grads and the ones who tended to do well in that system were undoubtedly clever but also very, very confident. The people who were a bit more fragile, or who needed a bit more pastoral support really seemed to struggle.

I also think she didn’t get much advice applying (or didn’t listen to it). There are huge differences in acceptance rates across subjects and colleges. English is always massively oversubscribed and the more Hogwart’s type colleges tend to get loads of applications too - I don’t know where she applied to but I’m guessing the aesthetic was a top consideration. If she’d applied to do Theology at a less popular college she would have stood a better chance of getting in, if Oxford or bust was the main goal.

I’ve thought this before about Ruby and Jade. Always wondered if Ruby is struggling with her sexuality and that’s part of her clear regression.

(before anyone comes at me, I’m only suggesting this due to my own experiences at 18-21ish as I was coming to terms with my own sexuality)

Exactly! Imo she's just using it as an excuse to stay at home, she clearly prefers being at home (shes said this quite a few times). Which is weird, she's a 20 year old woman, I don't get why she hasn't grown up and got a bit of independence yet?

she is 20 but likes acting (and dressing) like she’s 12, so it makes sense that she’d prefer staying at home with her parents

Agree that Ruby is well intentioned and naive. Maybe I just don't want to imagine her as being super money hungry and selfish. I think she's just very sheltered, mind.

I THINK she abandoned English because it’s what she’d wanted to study at Oxford, and at the time was of the frame of mind that if she couldn’t do English at Oxford, she didn’t want to do it anywhere.

Then the remorse set in.... I’ve wondered why an atheist would ever apply for a theology degree since I started watching her Bit like someone who has horrendous airsickness studying be a pilot...

I’m a theology student who is also and atheist - one of the main reasons for studying it is to understand something even if you don’t believe in it. how can you know you don’t believe in something without being fully knowledgable about it. Also theology encompasses a lot of different areas, whereas English typically leads you down certain limited roads and Ruby doesn’t seem to be as passionate about English
