I agree that Ruby will struggle coming out of education, and think that either being a teacher, or eventually a lecturer, will really suit her.

I see a lot of similarities between Ruby and myself. I loved school and academia, and although I did have a slightly more balanced time at uni, studying was absolutely the priority. My mental health massively struggled when I graduated because a huge part of what had formed my ‘identity’ for so long was suddenly gone.

I think there was some speculation that it was written by someone who watches Ruby

^As someone who was on the old GG thread, I’m pretty sure several people suspected the reddit post was written by someone on GG, especially because of the mice - people were convinced her keeping snacks in her room would invite them in, there was a whole page of back-and-forth conversation about it. Everything written on Reddit was talked about on GG. Ruby never mentioned anything about mice.

I mean, there’s a poster there who was oddly obsessed with her, and even made an odd comment that she shouldn’t show the quiet areas in Exeter she went to because she’d be inviting...something bad to happen to her. I’m pretty sure someone was trying to prove a point.

EDIT: Speculation on the reddit post was on page 30 of Part 2...and mice speculation was on page 29.
haha was just writing this too!

There are a coupe of people on the GG thread who are unnecessarily mean to her in my opinion, so it wouldn't surprise me if they had written it but at the same time I can kind of picture Ruby being a judgemental housemate 😬

Am I the only one who sensed a flirty vibe between her and Blakeney. Not the biggest Ruby's fan, but thought that was cute

Wonder what Ruby would be like if she went to a state comprehensive like the majority of us did
I reckon she would’ve probably been in with the popular girls at school and I reckon now she’d be working as a receptionist, drive a fiat 500 and possibly have a kid on the way. Shes such a product of her environment

Does anyone know what happened to the podcast Ruby was doing with Jack, Jade and Eve? Have any of them ever addressed the fact they don't seem to be doing it anymore? Ruby seems quite close with Jade but I'm not convinced Jack and Eve would have much to do with her if it wasn't for the fact they are all with the same management. As in, they would never have been friends if they had met at university outside of YouTube... just a vibe I get.
It's obviously not a regular thing, otherwise they would have brought out another season by now. I always found it quite hypocritical that they called it the Wooden Spoon (i.e. the prize for coming last) when all of them were Oxbridge hopefuls and almost all of them came from economically-privileged backgrounds (maybe with the exception of Eve).

The temperature checking is responsible if you're going to be around other people and feel a bit off. If not, I see it as excessive. If my uni had given me a thermometer I would have become obsessed and I see a bit of myself in Ruby. I have terrible bouts of health anxiety and I suspect she can be the same way. Makes even more sense now that she moved home. Her anxiety was probably through the roof with all the self-checks.

Courgette porridge sounds effing disgusting. But who am I to judge. Nah, I'm judging.

Her to-do lists continue to be extremely regimented. "Have cold shower". I've done those kinds of detailed to-do lists on occasion but I will still condense my morning routine into one item to check off.

The "year seven rucksack" comment seems more to me like a way to explain why her bag isn't *aesthetic*

Also, I really like that blouse she's showing off on Instagram, it's totally my style. I wish I had companies sending me things, lol

Ruby is actually growing on me, but I think she can be a bit tone deaf/ naive. She is evidently very clever, but she sure romanticises things that ought not to be romanticised.

I like to imagine her finishing her productive day-in-the-life vlog with 'have a productive week everyone', shutting the camera down, then ripping her cardigan off, necking a vodka redbull, snorting lines off her study planner and twerking to trap music in her bedroom
A lovely thought. Although, she strikes me as more of a jagerbomb sorta gal x

Y'all, I never usually comment on these threads but I just need to share something. Does it seem like Ruby has been developing signs of an ED? The girl barely eats. In every video I have seen of her, she eats so little (a frozen banana for breakfast????) and I'm actually concerned for her in case she just doesn't realise it. She also always seems to be injuring herself ir getting ill.

Am I just reading too much into this?

What do you guys this about the caption on her post on Instagram? I found it so ironic. This is exactly what we talk about here. She works so hard and such long hours daily, but can’t make a dent in any of her work because she doesn’t know how to be efficient. Like at all. Whenever I watch her videos, I feel like she does such useless stuff: re-reading the same texts 20 times over, rewriting drafts a million times, going over the set word limit by thousands of words...She’s wasting her own time and doesn’t even realize it. All the hours of unnecessary research she does aren’t even reflected in her vocabulary or general knowledge. You’d think that someone who studies for 12 hours a day for years and years would be noticeably more intellectual than their peers, but she just seems like an average girl?
I think you can see this affected her A Levels because she did all the study me videos but you could tell from her results video that she was really surprised she didn’t get the full sweep of A*s. I had a friend at school who always worked hard rather than smartly and was always stressing and burning herself out, and she didn’t quite get what she wanted when a lot of us got good grades with a lot less time investment. I think Ruby could do with looking at how other people study, and try a different tactic and focus on getting tasks done efficiently.

OT but what do you mean? Epitome and epitomise are two separate words and are pronounced differently

It depends what kind of job they go into. I’ve got some friends in the city paying something mad like £150 a month so that on top of income tax (they’re in top bracket) is a huge chunk. Maybe they would have been better having their parents pay it off 😂

Re her career after I think she’ll do an MA and then maybe go into publishing? It’s incredibly hard to be a full time author and even though she has a following I don’t know how far that would guarantee success- her writing needs to be good.

Has anyone read her book/s? How’s her writing?
Oooh it autocorrected. I was trying to say I pronounced epitome as epi-tome (rhymes with home) when it's meant to be epitomie (rhymes with gastronomy).

Ruby should have stayed at home in the first place if she is this scared about covid. I made the decision of moving back to uni knowing that I can’t go home till Christmas. I think you have to make that decision and stick to it, it’s her housemate that I feel sorry for
I definitely think she should have thought through what going back to Exeter actually meant before doing so (i.e. not being able to visit home as often, not being able to carry out her grand plans for fun activities etc.).

I wonder if she's moved all of her stuff out of her room, or whether she really thinks she might go back in January...

Perhaps not enough young people have signed up so they are doing targeted influencer ads? I’m astonished. I would have thought influencers would give the distancing reminders for free anyway, as good citizens? Like a simple “don’t forget your masks, guys”
Aswell ruby has shown herself in videos picking up loads of different books in Waterstones and putting them back. She did say she sanitised her hands between each one but it’s not the best example of good covid hygiene

Yeah I guess its like the whole ‘vintage fashion not vintage values’ thing. Dark academia style is not exclusive in itself, like anyone can dress like that and have that aesthetic, I think sometimes the issue lies more with the type of person that community attracts, aka the ones who do actually have the vintage values as well. Not saying ruby is like that btw, I just mean thats how it can be exclusionary to poc

Omg I lived next to a pair of guys at uni and one of them would always forget their keys and literally would bang on the door (sometimes not even his own lol) at 2am. #unilife
I’m the only girl living with 5 boys!! It’s not fun🤣Ruby had it lucky living with just one flat mate in what looked like a big house. She probably was quite safe in terms of covid I don’t know why she moved home
