I just rewatched one of the first videos I saw when I first discovered her, shortly before the pandemic hit. She was super into exercising and had a whole disclaimer about how ”I would normally eat more than this, but I was feeling ill 🥺”. She’s been this way for a long time, she’s just gotten slightly more polished over the years, and no one’s commenting on the body checking any more, even though it’s obvious she uses an elongating filter in much of her footage to look thinner.
Right, but if you go way back, to when she was still an underclassman, still being Hermoine Granger and basically the start of her channel and first several years, she did not behave in any way that even hinted at an ED. Something along the way, when she started getting clothing companies sponsoring her, things changed. Also when she stopped the bangs (fringe) and grew it out. It is almost like she completely lost confidence in herself, or what little she had, and everything spiraled after that.

Ruby walking through the halls one last time

Though farewells weigh upon my soul,
Your essence in me makes me whole.
So here's to you, dear Oxford true,
Forever in my heart, adieu.

hdu maybe it just takes her a really long time to poop! 😤

I'm so sorry, you're right. As a token of my apology, here's a picture from our main sponsor, Rumbster.

Why she insists on putting that filthy carpet? bed cover? on her bed, I guess we'll never know. Also, how she miraculously doesn't see the filth lol

Love how she’s being all mysterious suggesting she has something planned for after summer. Also ‘still deciding’ - waiting to hear back re the PhD or already rejected and scrambling to find something to do?

Has she ever said in the last year that’s she actually been happy at Oxford? Seems strange it’s just feels like a tick box for her

In my language, we call that colour goose turd. :D It looks horrible.
Hungarian? :')

I think the word for her whole existence is "waste". She wastes money, ressources, relationships, opportunities and time constantly and isn't even happy with her life.
I think for ages growing up she was told she was something and maybe even saw Martha told off for not being that ideal, and avoiding all those comments she ended up building up a persona that is everything but not her if that makes even sense. Sad, really :/

Question for the thread: why has Gilmore Girls become a social media phenomenon so long after it aired?

Is she recycling an old photo again?

These are really nice!

At least she stopped at the beret. I was worried she'd start wearing a string of onions around her neck and carrying a baguette.
I think it's the resurgence of early 2000s culture in general! I work with teenagers and they're all watching Bring It On, 10 Things I Hate About You, etc and wearing millennial outfits, loving the whole preppy aesthetic, etc

Considering she cried so much over not getting in for undergraduate, it's a shame she's not enjoying it now she is in.

So I
Thank you, I imagine it would've been supervised too. It was the phraseology that the librarian had found something she might be interested in that I picked up on. It implied the Librarian knows her area of research and either happened across a book he knew she would be interested in or was actively searching on her behalf.
I don’t know about Oxford in particular and haven’t used this service myself, but at the universities I’ve studied, MA students and up could book a limited number of meetings with librarians to have some kind of consultation about finding sources for larger research projects. It never made sense for me, since everything I worked with was pretty thoroughly digitized, but friends who did more historical subjects did use these consultations. Librarians at academic institutions are amazing at their jobs, and I’d assume libraries at Oxford would invest in that kind of expertise as a resource.

Doesn’t have to be the explanation here, but doesn’t seem impossible either.

For me it all went from "let's watch this dark academia aesthetic related videos just for fun" to "okay, I'm watching her cause I've been following her content for some time" and it all ended with this current video. Sincerely, I hope she's okay, we all have been stressed cause of studies at some point in our life but I can feel something is wrong, not only on the birdseeds stuff but in her voice over and the way she rushed (more than usual) posting that thinggg. It was like a fever dream.

Obviously, universities are diverse places, but Exeter and Oxford are two of the least diverse (I think)*
Oxford is more diverse than the average in terms of RG unis (if you're only counting ethnicity, I would assume it is even more diverse if you count diversity as any culture outside of White British/Irish).
Here's the 2022 stats:

And here is the stats for Oxford:

No clue at all how this stacks up for Exeter though. I would assume (due to my own prejudices) that it is less diverse.

I would worry about this being Off Topic, but there's hardly a conversation to derail rn.

I never understood the trend of 'studying' in coffeeshops, known as busy and noisy, where you can easily ruin your computer or books by spilling your drink. There's libraries, and free wifi on the campus if people want to study elswhere than their own room, which I can understand. And for the other customers who actually want to eat and drink in the coffeeshop when all the students are here, it's litteraly impossible. I remember the starbucks near my work place, it was just impossible. And most of the time they weren't eating, drinking or even studying, they were just here, chatting.
YES whenever i see someone studying in a coffee shop i assume they’re being performative or procrastinating because i refuse to believe that’s conducive to any decent work being done 😂 seems very pretentious to me

Yeah I feel like if Americans saw nationality/ethnicity like we do in Europe their communities wouldn't be as diverse either lol. Like in my Italian class we had people with Belgian and Czech great-grandparents, it never came up except when we were actually discussing like surname origins or ancestry. My own great-grandmother was Flemish and I had no idea for most of my life because it has zero impact on who I am as a person or what my family is like.
The only time you would actually feel the need to specify someone's nationality is if someone was an actual first generation immigrant. But even then, making a big deal out of it would feel a bit rude, like you're trying to emphasize that they're different and "othering" them.
This is such a good point! Americans and Canadians tend to identify with their grandparents’ plus identities. We just don’t do that in the UK. In fact it has literally never occurred to me to do that until I read your post! I guess I’m Irish-Finnish lol.

Could it be the Ruby and Blakeney are just hanging out to enjoy each othercompany for once?

… and there it is. Of course not. I think it’s undeniable now that they *only* hang out when there’s a sponsor involved.

Also it’s so sneaky how Ruby snuck in the gifted meal right after the unsponsored meals that she GANUINELY HONASTLEE paid for. Also what is her obsession with putting the tag and ‘ad disclosure’ (if you can even call it that) in the tiniest white font? And why did truffle hound get a massive tag and sacred grounds got a tiny one??
I had the same thought process! I wonder if Blakeney still lives in Exeter or has made the journey for this free trip…

For gods sake she looks ridiculous. There’s plenty of ways to dress modestly without looking like a fool. A thin white tshirt or vest top under that dress and some low denier tights if she insists that she needs them.

also semi-ot but since we’ve talked about Roobee’s lip-smacking - I recorded and edited my first podcast today and to my horror, I apparently make a similar noise when I start a sentence 😨😨😨 luckily, they show up as tiny little blips on the track so I was able to edit them out without too much effort.
Please don’t do what so many people do nowadays and edit out all of the gaps between sentences. Ruby does it sometimes and it’s one of those things that drives me insane and it genuinely makes me incredibly anxious whenever I hear it.

Haven’t actually watched a Ruby video in ages and just keep up from here but decided to watch her latest one. Wtf is she on? Is she trying to be a children’s tv character/narrator?

Also, for someone who makes an effort to talk softly and make her content seem calm and gentle the idea of her listening to ai voiced journals whilst walking through forests is kind of jarring.

I know we can’t compare people at different life stages, but she’s nearing her mid twenties and spending her days buying bird seeds and talking about having tea parties with them!

frankly she’d be a shoe-in for Civil Service fast stream
On paper maybe, but I can’t see her coping with the selection process. And where would she go? I can’t see her coping with working in central Government at all.

The thing with Ruby is that she doesn’t really want to work, and she doesn’t really have to. Honestly, I can see her going a bit Fundie and embracing the ‘stay at home daughter’ tread, although I can’t see Ma and Pa loving that.
