What I never understood was why she didn't do a 'study with me' at all at Oxford. I remember she used to always do those videos where she props up the camera for an extended amount of time and would get tons of views just by posting them. I don't get why she wouldn't just sit there and prop the camera up and study (or at least pretend to). It's literally the easiest, most low-effort content possible.
I always get the impression that she isn't able to settle down in one place anymore, like she did when she was a kid, and concentrate on studying for a long period of time. She is too worried about taking pictures, getting selfies, moving around from library to cafe, back to library, too concerned about social media content. She never seemed to have settled well in her room at Oxford for long. I think the days of devoted concentration left her years ago, especially as the work material became more intellectually challenging and dense. In a nutshell, she is not the amazing student she always defined herself as, and it is showing. She probably spends far too much time gazing out the window, checking her iPhone, looking up answers on the internet and finding ways to get an easy information for her thesis. Then she goes off and add more depressing pictures to her Pinterest account.

I've barely kept up with her so am not clued up on how her Masters is going. Presumably, it can't be going too well if she's having to escape from it to this extent but maybe someone can shed some light there? Anyhow, I really want to know what she's going to do after this year. She surely can't put off getting a job any longer, unless she pursues YouTube full time (which is plausible). What content does she do though? Surely stuff like this at 25/26/27 will be insanely creepy and I'm not sure who the audience would be either? I'm at a loss.
We can only speculate about her Masters since she's said almost nothing about the content of her degree or her actual experience studying at Oxford, but...

She mentioned that it took 5 tries to get her tutor just to come up with an idea for an essay question that was acceptable for her first essay there. That's just the basic thesis question for what would've been her easiest essay there, so it doesn't bode well for her managing to come up with an actual essay of any merit or quality for that essay or the rest.

She's mentioned absolutely nothing about her grades. Ruby's always been hyperfixated on her grades and has always seemed and acted practically entitled to the highest one. Despite her occasional 'GRADES AREN'T AVVERYTHING' lip service disclaimers, if she's ever got a high grade or top marks before (even high-but-not-the-highest grades that she's "disappointed" by), she'll always rush to announce it and VARRY HOMBLY brag about it in her next video, even if it's completely unrelated to the video. At Oxford she's said nothing at all, suggesting that her grades have been dismal.

She posted vague Insta stories about how she was having bad mental health days right around grade feedback time of her first term. Possibly unrelated, but the timing is noteworthy and seems to support the above.

She's taken an unprecedented hiatus from content creation during the essay period of her second term and long after. The only videos she's posted during this time have been a rushed vlog titled 'the inevitable stress of essay season' in which she mentioned that she'd been feeling highly anxious about filming during this period (but refused to say why), and then this latest mental breakdown of a video. If she did badly on the first round of essays, there was more pressure to miraculously do better on her second, harder batch of essays to pull her grades up, which doesn't seem likely, and this new video doesn't exactly suggest she knocked it out of the park.

She's looked absolutely miserable practically every moment at her "dream school". In libraries, on campus, while studying, she's looked increasingly morose. No surprise that she's looked hopelessly miserable every time she's had to film herself in a library filled with other, much smarter students doing far more work. The only time she's looked remotely happy there is doing small social things completely unrelated to studying with the one friend she's made there.

Independent thought has never been her strong suit and she's always floundered massively when expected to come up with her own ideas and do her own work. It's why she hit a wall with her dissertation. At Exeter she was almost completely reliant on grade inflation, her dodgy system of academic shortcuts and her major rhymes-with-Cakeknee crutch to get her through while doing as little of her own work as she could. At Oxford, the bar will be massively higher, with infinitely more expectation from tutors for a student to showcase independent, original thought in essays. Ruby's not built for that, so it's not at all surprising that she's hitting bottom academically now she can't skip the required reading, recycle the ideas of other scholars and copy Blakeney's homework.

All signs point to her wading into Oxford expecting an easy ride where she'd slap together a few essays from ChatGPT extracts, recycled lecture handouts from AXATAR and copy-and-pasted academic quotes, then spend all her time twirling round libraries trying to rub everyone's noses in the fact that she's an AWKSFWUD STEEYOODONT who's JANUINELY living out her wildest dark macadamia Hogwarts daydreams. Reality seems to have hit her instantly and won't stop swinging.

Aaand we're back to talking about the seasons. My heart sank when Ruby said she was going to read a poem about the bluebells.

POV: you're enjoying a ride on the teacups until your friend makes it weird.

I'm still not a fan of these shots where Ruby eats something while maintaining oddly intense eye contact.

I started watching her vid thinking "oh this will be a nice thing to listen to as i tidy" (because that is how I usually listen to Ruby's dross). Things it reminded me of :
- a "don't hug me I'm scared" video
- something I would have made as a 12 year old to show how quirky I am
- some of the vivid nightmares I have
- the tupperware that I left in the fridge for too long = blue porridge with carrots

Ruby's gifted seat was worth between £183 and £210, depending on where exactly in the stalls she sat...

I don’t think she needs to take these entry level, admin, library volunteer jobs like people are suggesting. She needs to give herself a kick and make her content better.

She already has an audience, if she would just be smart about it she could get good ads and make good connections with publishers to get a children’s book deal to keep some money flowing in. If she had been proactive with her business (or had better management?) she could have tried to do partnerships with shops to get her stationery stocked on physical shelves. If she had worked at it, she could have found a niche on TikTok for her stationery and gone viral and sold through TikTok shop and her website. But she’s lazy, she doesn’t invest in the business and she’s terrified/paralysed of what seems like basically any adult decision. All she can do is ‘school’/uni.

Her relevancy online is only going to dwindle as the years go on and the chance at all this money will slip away.

Some of my favourite takes from this video:

Your comments about "pre cent" reminds me of this funny answer from Ruby a couple of years ago. She not only refuses to learn from others, she will passive aggressively use her go-to misunderstanding of Wittgenstein and sign it with a kiss haha. She really loves to learn Latin, doesn't she

Can't believe I've only just realised how bitchy she comes across in response to mild criticism! She reminds me of girls at school who'd treat passive-aggression as a hobby, always dealing out mean comments and acting shocked and hurt when someone politely told them it was nasty. Deep down I think she knows her knowledge is lacking, and compensates by sniping when anyone tries to call her out on it. True smart people don't do this, because there's no need to constantly prove something that's innate.

I feel like if she had a PhD offer from somewhere else she wouldn’t be looking at the Oxford one.
The aesthetic of academia appeals to Ruby more than being an academic, so I think Ruby wouldn't accept a PhD offer from anywhere other than a top university.

Also it's a collectors edition, you don't need notes and you certainly don't buy these to scribble in! EEK!
The thing is Ruby is well known for writing in her books because last year she decided to write in a book that she was giving to Blakeney for Christmas for no reason whatsoever and she is also well known for ruining books. An example of this was that she had this book and then decided to paint over the front cover because she didn't like it and this is how it ended up.

Don't well connected and over educated girls like Ruby inevitably end up in publishing?
I doubt she’s actually well connected. Her dad has made some money and hid it away in the Virgin Islands, but it’s new money and they’re a family of wannabes at best. She may be able to fake her way into an entry-level publishing job but she’ll bail out at the first chance she gets because she’s neither interested in actually working, nor is she particularly intelligent.

Lack of confidence on dissertation, vague subject topic, sponsored, lots of undeclared sponsors flickered throughout vlog, constantly trying to justify why she hasn't shared her topic, a trip back home, slob dropping food on floor, whispering when she doesn't need to, younger sister driving her because she still hasn't learned how, walking around at home and still doesn't know how to swing her arms. They just hang tight against her body. So weird.

Boring as hell vlog.

Oh, goodie, another dull-as-dishwater fake routine.

My favourite part was her trying desperately to convince people that she's exceedingly busy with VARRY IMPWORETANT YEECHEEB ADMIN WAHHHRK.

View attachment 2953230

But since that "work" doesn't exist, she just shows herself writing an entirely unnecessary reply email to decline an invite to a 'Furiosa' screening.

"Thank you for thinking of me," she writes, even though the last thing anyone should be thinking when talking about a high-octane, two-and-a-half-hour action movie is "Y'know who'd love this? Ruby Granger."
brb adding ”fan mail” and ”red flag” folders to my gmail, I feel there’s potential

1) they’re a family of hoarders - she showed all the books that they were getting rid of from their loft and it was hundreds of what mostly looked like children’s books 😳
I noticed that and I couldn't honestly believe what I was seeing I mean why haven't they got rid of any of them children's books when both children are now in their 20s. Examples of the children's book I saw were a Phonics Alphapets book, Little Miss Tidy book by Roger Hargreaves, Maisy Goes to Playground and a Noddy book amongst many others. Even when Ruby showed us the pile of books that they were going to keep some of them still looked like children's books and I just thought they won't get read so what is the point of keeping them. I honestly think it's shocking that they have left them in the loft for all this time and have never thought about getting rid of any of them, I mean they must have around 300 to 400 books in that loft possibly more.

They do, it's what Emma Watson's currently doing iirc and I'm suprised Ruby hasn't pounced on that. https://www.ox.ac.uk/admissions/graduate/courses/mst-creative-writing
The course requires an interview as part of the application process, which was a big part of what killed her undergrad application and would no doubt tank her chances here.

Interviewer: "Can you tell us why you want to study on this course?"
Ruby: "Umm...syo...(clucks tongue)...umm...yah, syo...ummm...oiy'm Ryoobee...and...ummm...syo...umm...(smacks lips)...umm... and as oiy say...ummm...yah...and umm...WARDSWAARTHH WONCE WRYOTE THAT...ummm...(smacks lips) and umm...weee tand tyeu beee...(waves claw hand around) umm...like...ummm...PONKUPODDUHTIVTI ...ummm...and... JANUINELY...oiy...umm... and so yah. (Grimaces)"

😂 😂 😂

Her bullshit excuses are always so bad. I'm having flashbacks to "I pronounce words strangely because I must've learned a new accent while on holiday in Devon for a few days".

Literally any excuse to avoid saying, "I spend most of my time online going overboard with a fake accent to imitate Emma Watson's voice and it's really just a complete mess, but when I'm not doing that, I like to pretend I'm TWALVE AGANN by dressing like a schoolgirl and altering the pitch of my voice in videos (but sometimes I forget because I don't really pay attention to what I'm filming or editing!)"
