Her comment section is an absolute shambles... I'm really not surprised that she doesn't respond as much as she used to.

I used to always see so many people promoting their channels by spamming cheesy ~life affirming quotes~ on every single video. Now it's split between young kids, and people not from the UK who have (no offence, but) ridiculously romanticised visions of British students (that are really more like fantasies of Hogwarts).

Never really feels like a 'peer' comment section, if you get what I mean? It's not at all people roughly Ruby's age or at the same stage in life, like a lot of other booktubers/vloggers...
Yes! And let’s not forget longtime fan of the show Penultimate and other middle-aged men 👀

Why are soooo many comments ‘Dear Ruby, thank you so much for this video.’ It’s so bizarre? It’s honestly quite eerie. They almost seem like they’re from bots, but I know for a fact most of her fans are in fact braindead enough to actually comment this stuff. Also her fans seem to be obsessed with using her name when they comment. I swear this is also odd? And why are they thanking her for doing her job for crying out loud!!! As though she’s doing them a favour.

Did you touch the painting? Was it designed to be touched? Did the painting in fact reach out and touch you? Did it? Huh?!

(lol I have zero patience with her these days)

that painting is giving A-Level Art but of course Ar Rubes has to pretend she has an eye for this sort of thing to her 13 year old followers

"I shouldn't have done it,
and the stalks resisted,
leaving demons on my
hands - the ghosts of
rust blood-rust heather
shaken on the wundu
behind the valley."
Maybe she did enjoy being invited to the premier of You 😆

She's now officially too old to be a talented English scholar and making mistakes like this. Talented, well read, articulate, educated and intelligent adult writers don't do this as their use of language is more developed :) she just seems pretentious

Fruit bowl paintings? There is no bowl here. This is called a Still Life painting. OMG She is such an idiot in everything she says and does. I can't wait until she goes to Oxford and talks like a moron to everyone there. lol

She just knows nothing about art. She's not genuinely curious, she just likes memorising stuff and niche interests. Victorian art is big on still life paintings :)

This part genuinely made me crack up LMAO.

This is reason #20312 why I think her comment section is dead now, completely overtaken by a strange vibe, because why is there no one commenting on this moment at all?? Not in the 'ooh why aren't they taking the mickey too?' way, just in a 'this is objectively notable, at the very least, and quite funny but strangely no one is mentioning it?' kind of way.

POV - you're up on the moors with Heathcliff and have tried to get between him and Catherine.

I think her followers maybe don’t like her content when it’s not studying. I watch her study stuff to chill but don’t like her manic cosplay dream girl stuff :)

A huge part of me is jealous of Ruby because I have wanted to visit Haworth forever, but getting the time off and paying for even a staycation is difficult. I'll do it eventually, I just envy and resent her being able to do it on a whim because she doesn't work much and doesn't need to.

"Walking in the rain is thee myost logical way TYO dyo it" - oh my god shut the duck up you pretentious idiot it's not illogical to avoid the rain.

Skipped the whole bit where she read from Wuthering Heights because nobody needs that.

More of her "we do this a lot" statements when she's pointing out some narrow-minded assumption but it's actually just her, not the collective.

"I don't know how long to spend at the Parsonage" - just however long it takes?

She keeps calling Heptonstall "Heptonville" because the north is some quaint fairytale land to Ruby.

She films herself reciting a quote in a weak husky voice at Sylvia Plath's grave. The disrespect.

"This little cafe which actually had so many vegan options randomly" - in what way is it random? Vegan food in the UK is the best it's ever been catered for and you can often get multiple vegan options at most places now. The uncultured north have shocked Ruby again!

She bought the wrong ticket on the train which she NAVAR does. Then she goes all the way to York to stay in her room until checkout. She eats packet porridge out of a mug instead of exploring and finding somewhere to eat breakfast. She's getting her money's worth out of the room that was cheaper than the Travelodge and is much nicer than she was expecting from the dirty grimy north. (No shade to anyone else who would take their own breakfast or get a cheaper room, but Ruby clearly doesn't need to.)

Now we know why she went to York - a children's literature exhibition!

It's much more interesting watching her do things like this and it's obviously small steps towards not holing away in a childhood bedroom and I think she should do it but at the same time she is simply insufferable wherever she is because she's pretentious and insincere 🤷‍♀️

TBF even if we do here her she's still unintelligible.
---
The way her commenters coo at her is how I react to preschoolers showing me their crayon "dwawing"
"Oh how nice...you could be an artist when you grow up! I like how you coloured in your sun, fantastic!"

I stop doing that for 16 year old's cause they don't like being talked down to like that. But of course, Rubes loves it.

I really hope she didn't touch the painting. Reminds me of the time my very religious grandmother kissed a painting of Jesus in a gallery and we got kicked out. I was a kid but it was so embarrassing.
