Is there something wrong with ordering tea and sitting doing work??
The way Ruby does it, absolutely.

She's been outspoken about how much she hates "stoddying" or "wahhrking" in public because she can't focus and everyone's too noisy and inconsiderate. Then she insists on going to loud, crowded coffee shops and cafés to "wahrhhk" and "stoddy", because she thinks it'll look more "asstattic" and she'll look more studious surrounded by the unwashed masses drinking coffee and eating sandwiches. Meanwhile, she avoided the library like the plague, even though it's explicitly there for people to sit around quietly working/studying all day without paying for anything and suited her purposes much better.

She harps on constantly about kindness, consideration and little gestures of generosity. And then she usually takes up an entire table to herself even if it's busy or people around her are struggling for space. She orders either the bare minimum or nothing at all. In the past, she's waved her receipts around and shown off that she ordered the cheapest thing on the menu and nothing else, despite being immensely wealthy. The receipt she waved around during one visit after taking up table to herself for hours during a busy day there was £2.55.

She also did her table-squatting bull while maskless during a pandemic. Here's Ruby at Cross Keys in Exeter, where she spent an entire vlog taking up space, seemingly arguing with nearby people and not wearing a mask when the guidelines strongly encouraged wear masks indoors unless eating or drinking. Ruby refused to wear a mask and did not order anything during her entire time there. She spent more time taking photos for her Instagram than doing any actual studying.

This is someone who smarmily preaches about how she AWHWHEYS supports independent businesses, yet she's quite content to not pay them while using their amenities. Cafés are reliant on paying customer traffic to stay open. If you're going to take up a table for hours, then at least buy something, even if it's just a drink top-up after you've been there a while. Ruby won't, because she's just an entitled little parasite.

lol Roobee looking at Sylvia Plath’s gravestone and quoting ”Tulips” (”I didn’t want any flowers, I only wanted / To lie with my hands turned up and be utterly empty”) to justify not bringing flowers 😂

In what way does this look like the Secret Garden? Has she even read the book?
Don’t be daft, of course she hasn’t. She means that it looks like the twee 90s film because that has shots of the moors in it too…

Clearly by touristy she means "I need you to know I'm special and going somewhere everyone else likes is usually beneath me " - Bettys isn't 'touristy' in the sense of being overpriced tourist bait, it's a local business with a long history and is rightfully popular and busy.

I wouldn't usually say there's anything wrong with sitting and doing work/ reading but it's table service, more like a restaurant and cafe combined, they don't rush you at all but I always feel rude staying too long since there's people waiting.
Didn't she also say that the Amalfi coast was too touristy? Like, you went there in August girl. Of course there were tourists around

I'd say good for Ruby for actually going somewhere alone, but it's yet another trip centred around her fake literary interests, just like Boston, so what's the point?

It doesn't result in a good video (even discounting Ruby's inability to technically made a good video) because she doesn't actually have any interest in any of the things she's gone to see. She's just joylessly rattling off "casual magic" nonsense and failing to mention or explain in any way what she claims to love about these authors and poets.

It also feels like she's especially desperate to prove that she's JANUINELY a vegan in this vlog. "Vegan food apps, vegan restaurants, vegan snack bars! Veganveganvegan, just forget all the honey I keep having and the Five Guys dairy buns I keep ordering and the wool clothes I keep buying and so on!"

Speaking of snack bars, Ruby makes a huge production out of the hotel apparently leaving her a complementary vegan snack bar. And if it seems weird that she's making such a big deal out of it, you might recall that this is one of the snack bar companies that Ruby has regularly received gifted products from in the past, and she shows it off in the exact same way she features all her undeclared ad snacks.

Is it a sheer coincidence that they happened to leave a snack bar from one of her shady sponsors in her room? Possibly.

Is she the kind of person who would lie about the hotel staff leaving it there as an excuse to shoehorn an undeclared ad in? Absolutely.

"I shouldn't have done it,
and the stalks resisted,
leaving demons on my
hands - the ghosts of
rust blood-rust heather
shaken on the wundu
behind the valley."

Ruby is like the human equivalent of a broken AI content generator: Provide her with any prompt and she'll just create a bad poem or piece of prose which will feature hands being injured or stained, the weather, foliage, wildlife, redundant descriptors and/or a list of three things in purple prose.

the secret garden comment she made really pissed me off. i'm currently reading the book right now, and i was like... how do any of the descriptions in that book match where ruby is in that shot? i hate how she name drops academics and literature but clearly has no clue what she's talking about. somewhere in her brain she must've remembered the secret garden is set in yorkshire and thought... "ah im in yorkshire, therefore i am in the secret garden"
no ruby, the secret garden is for your cottagecore aesthetic, this is your brontecore aesthetic!

Yes, why can't she just say she had a snack bar, a pastry etc without saying "a VEEEEgan" snack bar, "VEEEEGAN pastries" or whatever. This is a thing a lot of vegan influencers do, almost as if showing how perfect they are compared to their viewers, look at me eating my veeeeeegan donut, my veeeeeegan coffee. Just say donut. Just say coffee. Just say, "I had dinner and it was nice."

As a vegan myself (and I probably speak for others too), I'd have a bit more respect for her if she just said that she struggles with it (it can be difficult). But this is Ruby and she's allergic to the truth...

She even pronounces Chomsky as 'komsky' in her bookshelf tour video despite being corrected many times abut this:sleep:
If she mispronounces authors or literature titles at Oxford, she will be corrected swiftly.

Lol I didn't even think of hopping as a skill. I just assumed most people could hop. 🤷‍♀️

On her blog she also talks about their skiing holiday and apparently Mother Granger didn't go skiing. That was probably a wise choice!
Would have resulted in complicated fractures in both legs, that magically healed after a few days rest 🤥

A minute in and she’s trying to make the hell hole that is keighley aesthetic
keighley was once a thriving northern industrial town. Now it’s incredibly deprived and it’s sad. It’s a shame posh little rich girl didn’t think to look a bit deeper Into the Socio economic issues affecting the former industrial north in towns like Halifax keighly Huddersfield

As much as this video is funny I do admire her for actually uploading it lol. I'm in third year and got my first 2:2 the other week and I was in a terrible state lmfao so honestly good on her for showing vulnerability about academics (even if only once...)

Yeah I can understand getting upset about lower grades in second or third year but crying about a first year essay is so ridiculous 😭

What I don’t understand at all is all the fawning comments she gets. Like, I leave plenty of positive comments to youtubers when I like what they’re doing, but I’d never in a million years tell someone they’re ”so adorable” or ”you’re the best ever, thank you for remembering other religions exist” or ”omg roobee wonderful poem, how do you come up with so many colours and weathers” 🤮

Young viewers, probably. They always write the most over the top things.

The dopey self important smirk on her face gets on my nerves more than it should. Just bleeping enjoy the place and stop acting like Brontë sisters have their ghost hands patting you on the back for your mere presence. Ffs.

Her comment section is an absolute shambles... I'm really not surprised that she doesn't respond as much as she used to.

I used to always see so many people promoting their channels by spamming cheesy ~life affirming quotes~ on every single video. Now it's split between young kids, and people not from the UK who have (no offence, but) ridiculously romanticised visions of British students (that are really more like fantasies of Hogwarts).

Never really feels like a 'peer' comment section, if you get what I mean? It's not at all people roughly Ruby's age or at the same stage in life, like a lot of other booktubers/vloggers...
