Oh yay another I got paid to post this type of post. Do you think ruby is experiencing amnesia and forgot there are posts she can make that don't sell anything?

While I'm bilingual English is still secondarily acquired, but that first sentence just does not... feel right

about Oxford , my friend applied for English 1900-present/ lit MA course but heard back just under 2 weeks ago (didn't get a spot sadly.) so I think ruby must know by now. imo she can't have got in, she hid the fact she applied to start with as she prob wanted to avoid potential public rejection again but there's no way she'd keep her mouth shut after an offer, I think the holiday was pre planned as either celebration or pick me up

Last year a few of my friends applied for the MPhil in linguistics at Oxford and people who got offers heard literally a month before those who didn't so it's really anyone's guess when she'll hear

That's what has been throwing me off as well because I'd have expected some sort of a life update video by now. Then again, she might be taking her time: once everyone knows about it, the pressure will finally become real.

thats so true, I didn't think of it like that. if she has got a spot I think it'll sink in very soon that she can't coast copy existing essays at postgrad. maybe this weekend we will get a video

Do we know what blakeney's doing? maybe she will just try and tag along with that, or else just stay doing her 'job'. I can also see her doing tutoring for GCSEs from the comfort of the family home/with Pipers students only or something and continuing her book on the side

I’m thinking she did - maybe something distance learning hence the new desk. I have wondered if the recent good mood is because she’s got an offer from somewhere, maybe not THE offer but something that’s given her confidence that she will get an offer from Oxford too.

That is what is making me so curious. We all officially know that she hopes to do Masters this year. We know about Oxford by accident/unofficially. So surely she could just come out and say via a 'life update' that she is/isn't doing it this year?
My first thought, which I mentioned on the previous thread is that all this travel and ski holiday etc was to cheer her up due to being rejected

I suspect Ruby left her "job" a couple of weeks before the trip.

She probably quit the second she got a decision back from Oxford either way, since the "job" was only a last-minute attempt to pad her CV for her application and she doesn't need it anymore.

Yup, the timing works either way. Zero sign of her having WAHHRKED in the past three weeks or so.

I wonder to what degree Ruby's opinion of her self has been inflated by her mum & dad's constant praise? Of course parents should be there to help their children build a positive self-image but I think there is a fine line between building a distorted self-image which lacks a grip on reality and a positive self-image. My opinion from what I've seen is Ma & Pa Bones have not supported Ruby to develop real self-esteem and a realistic image of self. Instead Ruby's is built on a false belief system and false sense of self which I think Ruby is ever more realising. I think she is trapped in this false image and can't escape because to do so would be to lose the admiration she receives from others. I think she probably was a precocious reader as a child and young teen. I think she probably did work hard at school. I think she did achieve good grades but what I also think is she achieved these because she rote learnt facts. Her writing style, syntax and grammatical ability seem very poor for someone who graduated with a first. She seems to lack an ability to critically evaluate text as well as an inability to think creatively. There seems to be no out-of-the-box thinking such as we see here on a regular basis on tattle. I have a strong feeling that IF she gets a place at Oxford she will soon find it her nemesis. In spite of her First and thinking as objectively as I'm able to I honestly don't believe she has the skill set required at Oxford. I think she is able to recall facts but not use facts. I think the best thing she could do is get herself a job. I don't mean working in her old school. I mean a job. Any job. Something full time. She could do a graduate entry job but honestly I think to get this she might have to have a better work-based CV. Her current CV doesn't show an ability to get up, get out of the house and do a full day's work over time. She has lots of ticks in boxes but not the critical one of 'proper' (hope you know what I mean) work.

I wouldn't be surprised if she didn't get in and is happy about it. It may have been the only place she applied to, but I feel like she would prefer to live at home and play "pretend" for as long as she can, so that may be why she is so happy right now. She was stressed out with the pressure of applying, but she doesn't even know what she wants to do in life and has proven she hasn't any talent or genius towards anything, and zero experience of anything worthwhile. I wish one of the students at her old school would come forward and say "where are you" "why did you leave" or spill some good gossip for us.

Maybe the new desk was to complete her bedroom aesthetic of being a forever stay-at-home child who studies and reads and does homework with zero interest in independence, unless she can be the bestest at her most favourite university of Oxford. The ski trip was an attempt to remind her that she can do big brave things and not wear school uniform all the time. And they need her home to complete the triangulation of an unhappy marriage.

If I was Sherlock, I'd say 'that is not the kind of desk you get when you realise a lifetime dream of getting into Oxford. She purchased it on FB Marketplace. There is nothing wrong with being frugal, but why spend so much money on a ski trip that lasts only a few days? No, Watson, that is not the desk one would choose following an Oxford Masters acceptance. The expensive ski trip, including a choice of two new pairs of ski goggles was to distract her from the disappointment of rejection.'

You make a good point regarding looking good on paper. I agree. I think that's her problem right there. Looking good on paper is not enough. She has to he good and I don't see evidence that she is and that's why I feel that if she gets into Oxford she could well sink. Apart from what I perceive as her academic limitations I just can't see her performing well in such a pressured environment. She seems to need to 'over-learn' everything and there certainly won't be time for that.

Sherlock, I agree! The desk is for her to continue being a child at home.

Have we ever discussed these treasure troves of videos? They're mock examples of Oxford English interviews. One video shows a hypothetical strong applicant, and one a hypothetical weak applicant. I thought the 'strong' one started off pretty poorly, so I can only imagine how Ruby's went.

ooooh I can see a whole new trend: stay-at home-child! instead of stay-at-home-girlfriend and stay-at-home-wife, the new trend is that adult children stay hat their parent's home forever and make videos about that. video ideas:
