I think someone said it on here quite recently, but I've been thinking about it a bit more: Ruby has no real brand anymore. Its not StudyTube, its not BookTube, she seems to be moving away from 'productivity'. She is sort of just vlogging bits of her life at the moment. Her life is quite boring so she doesn't have much to show or tell. If she does get in to Oxford for Masters, I doubt she will have time for YT. And who exactly is her target audience?

I agree, I think she's never had a clear idea of what she wanted her channel to be, she's always dabbled in different things (studytube, booktube, productivity, slow living, victorian stuff, hauls, vlogs, etc) but lately it's been particularly vague and confusing.

In my opinion, it is her fixation on Oxford that may be the cause of them rejecting her for a third time. Her fixation is based on aesthetics and LARPing thru the halls as Hermione at Hogwarts. I imagine that the intake staff may feel concerned that she tends to crack under pressure quite easily, is not in touch with reality and has EXTREMELY unhealthy study habits. Her toxic productivity mindset is out there for all the world to see.

I think that sort of thing weighs in the balance much more for undergraduates. By the time you go for your Master’s, you’re expected to be an adult who can manage their time and mental health on a much higher base level (not to say grad school isn’t very stressful and burnout is pretty common, but generally it won’t be from the stress of doing 14 hours of busywork per day and being sad you can’t be with mummy every day). You get accepted or rejected on academic merit, not so much on whether they think you can sit down and do the work - it’s expected you will.

That meal looks so sad and depressing, it's literally just boiled (probably unseasoned) vegetables and plain pasta It's the sort of meal I'd make on a Sunday night after sleeping in and forgetting to go to the shop to buy real ingredients/sauces - flavourless and barely filling. Add some olive oil, pesto, some pine nuts, vegan cheese, maybe some tofu, and even then it would barely make a pasta salad. I can't be arsed to cook either so just eat simple, relatively balanced meals like soup & bread, tomato pasta, lentil curry etc but I'm still hella anemic - if Ruby does actually eat this way all the time I'm not surprised she's struggling to stay happy & focused.

Erimentha Parker Chapter 11:

Plot -

- Ruby is lonely because she is not speaking to her friend Simone (because she is concerned Simone will suggest she reports the bullies again) so she starts having lunch break in the library
- Ruby finds a year 5 girl in the library and spends a page of the book basically describing how small and sad the girl looks
- Miss Soloman decides to go against her actual lesson plan so Ruby can present her PowerPoint on hurricanes
- Kimberly asks Ruby if she would ever go look for a hurricane, Ruby says no as you can die and Kimberly says that's a shame
- The bullies throw some paper at Ruby which she finds immature
- Ruby asks to go get a drink of water, Miss Solomon abandons her class to come check on her and gets her an orange from the staff room
- When she gets back to class Ruby realises her parker pen has leaked all over her worksheets and her pencil case. She investigates and finds that someone cut her ink cartridge in half. When Miss Soloman returns the bullies tell the teacher Ruby was trying to show off by doing a trick with her pen and it exploded
- Miss Solomon doesn't believe Ruby was messing around because she points out Ruby told off another student earlier for throwing her pen around
- Ruby is too upset and ashamed to eat the orange Miss Solomon gave her

Won’t touch the tap with her bare hand but will happily drink out of a communal water fountain? I know kids who used to drink out of those by putting their whole entire mouths over the tap.

But she probably filmed an announcement video (of rejection or acceptance) and she will put out some teaser story on insta as soon as she finishes editing. I think shes silent now bcz doesnt wanna kill the hype until shes able to release the anouncement vid.

The other thing is, she hasn't actually told us all that she applied to Oxford, right? It was discovered accidentally by her leaving a visible note on one of her videos. A checklist on applying to Oxford for her Masters. She blurred it for most of the vid, but there was a quick snippet of a clip where it was not blurred. So its not like she's announced the application to Oxford, only that she hopes to do her Masters this year.
Am I on the right track?

I do hope this is you signing yourself up for doing the chapter summaries in penance for encouraging such evil to be released into the world! I can promise you, you will never be the same again after about three or four. Or as Ruby might say, you will feel like a felt tip pen which has been used so harshly that all of its ink has been lost, or as deflated as an untied balloon released from a child's sticky finger tips...

(I still haven't recovered from doing the Erimentha ones which required rereading it twice, and seeing a new series is bringing back the trauma...)

I'm sorry if this has already been mentioned earlier in the thread. I read the latest summary and thought to myself how much more sympathetic Erimethuby would be if she were given a backstory or a reason for why she was so condescending, detached, defensive and arrogant- maybe overbearing parents who'd constantly put her down, so she'd use an inflated sense of self as a coping mechanism. But now it's pretty clear that this whole thing was a self congratulatory vanity project. Even the bully shows great character development ffs, but Rube still thinks herself to be perfect and totally in the right. She's completely unrelatable because there are no lessons learnt along the way, and no sign of being a healthy, well-adjusted student. And it's pretty much the same with Ruby herself.

Yes! Reading the quotes that @LostGhosts has been sharing has shocked me all over again. I'd forgotten how bad the book is. Erimentha-Ruby is so incredibly unlikeable. The character reminds me of someone I may have been nasty to in my childhood at school

What to speak of the anatomical language giving Hannibal vibes lol. I truly believe that Ruby is as up-herself as the Erimentha character. And I think she is surrounded with exhausted adult relatives who find it easier to indulge her.

I was watching her new video and I was deeply amused because I was commiting the very cardinal sin (watching videos in bed before sleeping for hours) that Ruby was so ashamed of. Girl, get a grip. She has such a guilt complex. The Pope would be proud.

Yeah, I don't believe for a second she wasn't bullied at all. She has such glorious memories of high school that she's spent every ounce of energy since trying to turn herself into a 12-year-old schoolgirl again and recapture the joys of having private school teachers who were paid to tell her she was special and gifted tell her she's special and gifted, despite her being a talentless dunce.

Her stories of being bullied have never added up and never stayed remotely consistent. It went from 'I was navar bollied, I johst have an interest in the sobject' to 'I remambered! I WAS bollied! I johst didn't realise it at the toyme! Please buy moiy bohk about me being bollied!' to 'I AWHWHEYS knew oiy was being bollied!' and from "Oiy was bollied in Yaahr SAVVAN" to "Oiy was bollied in YAAHR NOINE!" to "OIY WAS BOLLIED ALTERNATE YAAHRS THROUGHOUT HOIGH SCHOOL, BUT ONLY ON WEDNESDAYS AND FROIDAYS AND ONLY IN THE SPRINGTOIYME!" to "THEY BULLIED ME SINCE BARRTH!"

She could never provide a concrete example of anything that happened to her beyond people just not wanting to be her friend or people offering constructive criticism online, and every time she spoke about it, there were new inconsistencies and even stupider out-of-touch advice and it all sounded even less believable. There's a reason she had to delete once of those videos due to overwhelming backlash.

If she experienced bullying so severe that she made it the defining trait of her identity for several years, she wouldn't have forgotten all about it until she'd started reading lots of bullying books and decided to write her own. And she wouldn't want desperately to relive her school years or go back to spend time at the same school she was apparently tortured and tormented for years. It's all horseshit. She made it up.

Erimentha Parker was painted has her actual experiences with bullying, yet was trope-filled drivel where the bullying was so bizarre that there's zero chance it happened in reality. It also showed Erimentha/Ruby to be an insufferable, judgemental, self-absorbed, spoiled, antagonistic little shit, which Ruby painted as admirable qualities, shedding a lot of light on why nobody would want to be friends with her.

She just really loves the narrative of someone being such a gifted child prodigy that all the other children were so jealous that they bullied them for it. She's seen that in lots of simplistic kids' stories growing up and mummy likely told her how jealous everyone was whenever Ruby threw a tantrum, so she's just adopted that narrative for herself.

I think she was probably teased, like most of us were at that age. If she behaved anything like her self-insert 'Erimentha', I can imagine that she probably had it coming. Not that any child should be treated unkindly, but its kinda just what kids do. Especially to a know-it-all little shit like Erimentha/Hermione-types.

For children who like to tease and call names, they had a lot to work with. Ruby boobie, Bones, Lazy Bones. And her response to the teasing, I bet it only encouraged them. Again, I don't condone children being unkind to other children...but I was a kid once and was on both ends of teasing. I learnt pretty fast that if being teased, how you respond can really sort it out fast. (not victim-blaming here either). There is a huge difference between bullying and teasing.
