Agreed! I think it's because she looks dressed for the occasion. I was expecting a return of the top hat and tail coat mixed with some kind of atrocity from Miss Patina.
I feel like we probably owe thanks to Mother Granger for this.

And, like many have pointed out, if Ruby was male, we wouldn't assume only the best of intentions - quite the contrary. Bottom line, we don't know what goes on in her head, so it's a little naive to be so convinced she's a safe person.
I do want to point out that roles aren't reversed tho, and that there are reasons why people are more cautious with men than women. There is a reason why people react more when it's men. Even if you read papers on how more women are sex*al ab*ser than we think, the numbers are quite disproportionate. And Ruby is not some random weirdo who wants to talk to teenagers for no apparent reason. She's a weirdo about whom we can think of many, many reasons why she would do that. Not good reasons. But other reasons.

i think we all know this. But my point was, we have no way of knowing for sure, and something being statistically unlikely doesn’t mean it’s impossible.

I think one thing we can all agree on is that Blakeney is an absolute saint.

I have a "friend" who only texts me when SHE needs help with something. Then disappears off the face of the Earth, especially if I talk about something outside of academia. Ruby's lucky and fortunate to have found someone who's willing to be her only friend AND literally do her degree for her. Without Blakeney I doubt she would've gotten a First. Even with Blakeney she just sits in her room all day, every day.

Guys I've just discovered the best thing.

"Indie rockers Ruby Bones combine energetic rhythms with visceral, existential lyrics and unabashed hooks to form short, punchy songs." Why is this so funny to me.

I would also add that all the references to gr*oming and ped*philia and sexual abuse to be inappropriately used and quite demeaning to actual cases and victims.
Ruby is such a sexless person and that is usually remarked upon here along with her childish behaviour and mindset, but then it switches to “be careful out there” as if she’s Ted Bundy or something.

Yes, her attachment to the past is weird and it’s clear she’s got some issues. However, having a mentor-like relationship with girls who are interested in academia is actually not an evil thing. There are comments from girls who knew her as head girl and talk about how nice she was to them. Having experience with bullying and loneliness herself, she was probably a helpful figure for some of the girls. Haven’t you ever met the weird horse girl librarian who’s awkward but still nice and harmless? It’s the same energy for me.

I actually think that helping younger people is a nice trait to have and it’s honestly ridiculous how quickly it got compared to stories of people being sexually abused. Like, come on.
problem with Rooooobeeee is if she really wanted to help kids she’d volunteer at a youth group like Briwnies or help with an after school club for kids who need after school support/quiet places to study etc etc.

But those would involve her being an adult and a responsible example; rather than being an overgrown child who likes being in charge of the game/play/whatever (she’s clearly been allowed to rule the roost with siblings/cousins and now it’s deeply entrenched)

Is there actually a page on her planner called “Questions to ask teachers”??? Am I seeing this right, man she really did go to her teachers/lecturers with emails filled with paragraphs about nothing, didn’t she. She was definitely that annoying student who never signed off teams on time.

I would eat my foot before I would ask a teacher or lecturer.

I just KNEW I had seen Ruby's cat collar Miss Patina shirt somewhere before. And now I remember.

Blogger thecherryblossomgirl wore this shirt in 2016 and I saw it back then. Ruby must have thrifted the shirt if it's from an older collection? Peter pan collars and funky ones like this cat one were all the craze 6-8 years ago.

What I love about the planner is that the front cover looks like a completely different colour every time she posts a picture. There are two decent photos of it on the website and they don't even look closely related. The description says "matcha-coloured" which coincidentally is not a good description for either of those colours.

It's incredibly dangerous for you to be perpetuating this idea that because Ruby doesn't look or act the way you think a pedophile does, she can't possibly be one. If you have this image that pedophiles always have to be older men with greasy hair crouching in windowless vans you can throw that out right now. Pedophiles can be (and often are) attractive, charming people who occupy a valued place in their community. So many people who have experienced assault and abuse have struggled to be believed because their abuser "is a good person". Comments like yours are what are demeaning to these people.
No one is making a direct accusation that Ruby committed a pedophilic act, only that her actions so far have raised many red flags and warrant caution in that vein.
Even if her actions are not pedophilic in nature, they can still be predatory and damaging. She openly flaunts her disordered eating behaviors and does nothing to denote them as negative. It's not much of a jump to imagine her encouraging these behaviors in young girls she "mentors". Her studying habits and outlook on academia are toxic and since that is her whole brand, I assume that is what she wants to mentor people in. Passing those traits on to people who look up to her so much is a terrible idea.
Ruby has no qualifications to be a mentor to teens. Having once been a teen does not make a person fit to guide someone through their teen years. If Ruby truly wanted to impart some helpful wisdom she thinks she possesses, she could easily have set up a website where young girls could write in anonymously and she could respond with advice. A "dear Ruby" column if you will. Still carries the potential to cause harm but much less creepy than asking for teenage girls' home mailing address. There's also plenty of organized avenues to go through if you want to work with young people. She could easily have applied to work at an after-school program as a mentor or tutor. Then she would be in a controlled environment where the parents of these children are aware of the relationship.
Being an older student at school and acting as a "big sister " to younger students is wildly different from trying to form relationships with them as a grown adult. The power balance is completely off and the life experience gap is much greater. Her behavior in regards to children is completely inappropriate.
Thank you!! This needed saying.
I have no idea if Ruby’s interest in childhood is suspect but just because she’s an attractive young woman with twee, benign interests it doesn’t mean that she can’t be predatory.
her (seemingly uncritical) love of Lewis Carroll is particularly strange to me. The man was basically a confirmed pedalo (proposed to Alice when she was 12, painted and photographed several children nude, some of which were so suggestive that he burned them to cover himself.) he got away with it then because he was a shy, docile academic who wasn’t outwardly threatening, worked at a reputable university and came from a privileged family. Sounds familiar…
I honestly don’t know how you could want to study him at a university level, especially looking at something as intimate as his personal letters, and not interrogate or acknowledge his perversions. Ofc we don’t know that Ruby didn’t acknowledge them but im willing to bet that she glossed right over it and continued to keep Carroll on a pedestal. Red flag behaviour.

I can't see the price bc everything is sold out but this is the first exemple that came to my mind when I tried to find other Youtubers who also did planners : https://shopamandarachlee.com/products/2022-doodle-planner?variant=39592016085078

Her notebooks are around what I think is the equivalent of 20 pounds, and are made of vegan leather. It's also all of her own drawing which we can know for sure since that's like what her content is mostly about. The bullet journals are also very cute, like it's nothing exceptional but the trackers alone make it worth it if you're into this kind of thing and can't draw in my opinion. It has a book loop, an elastic and TWO bookmarks that comes WITH the planner. Pages are also not bleedthrought for paint, I've seen an actual video testing it. And it sounds like I'm making publicity for it but I'm not, it's just a basic pretty good planner. It's not that hard. Really makes me wonder how much profit Ruby makes on hers. Didn't someone calculate the labour and production cost here once ?

Not to defend Ruby but converting that planner to GBP (and adding in postage) means it costs nearly £50 ($45 for the planner and $15 for postage, which could be higher) I mean, it’s a pretty planner but £50? Nope …
