What I love about the planner is that the front cover looks like a completely different colour every time she posts a picture. There are two decent photos of it on the website and they don't even look closely related. The description says "matcha-coloured" which coincidentally is not a good description for either of those colours.

An empty gap year could be bliss. I was struggling really hard towards the end of my degree, I barely made it through the exams and the thought of moving on with life was enough to make me crumble. I was also lucky to have a supportive family, they didn't mind I was literally in bed from sun up until midnight when I went to sleep again. Barely existing was what I needed and it helped me, I wouldn't care if someone wanted to be a complete potato after a rough time, especially if they can afford it. Ruby is just so adamant on coming off as the structured queen that she isn't, she's turning this year into a creative marathon when it's just a buffer area to postpone adulthood even more. I wonder what goes through her mind, she's always acting and pretending, not a bone in her body feels genuine in anything she does.

I think the main reason Ruby is going back and clings onto being head girl and that short period of her life so much is the simple fact it makes her feel valued and important.
When you're Head Girl, you likely have a more friendly relationship with teachers, give speeches and are put on more of a pedestal in comparison to other pupils. Where you're at uni, you get none of that. You're just one fish in a massive pond; there's no relationship with lecturers (as much as Ruby tried to create them) and no parents evenings where they can shower her with praise. Most lecturers probably aren't even familiar with you on a first name basis. Ruby hates that; she wants to stand out and feel better than others in an academic field, which she got at school.
That's why she's desperate to cling onto it. As much as she says it's about others and recognising their achievements, it's about her. Teachers remembering her, saying how good she's doing, pupils coming up to her, imparting "wisdom". It's a very bizarre and very infantile ego trip for her.

She also isn't reaching out to young followers and online friends out of the kindness of her heart because she wants to mentor these girls: she's doing it because she has no friends her own age, she doesn't want any, and she seeks company with people she doesn't feel judged by/inferior to.
When she talks to people her own age she has to come to terms with how different she is from them in every aspect of her life and it's much harder to pretend that she's fine and everything is fine with the way she lives; but because she acts like a bookish 12 year old, if she hangs out with that demographic she can pretend she's one of them and there's nothing wrong with her life.
And moreover, it's just shady all around to befriend young teenagers online. First off, it's not a good thing to encourage: minors should not be giving away their details online or talk to (adult) strangers so intimately, which is what she tried to accomplish with her penpal scheme thing. Even if she specifically doesn't have ill intentions, the kids she's talking to will think it's good to befriend adults online and might end up in dangerous situations. She was literally trying to get kids under 12 to share their address and contact details with her.
Secondly, if she truly wanted to mentor and guide younger people, I'm sure there are lots of more appropriate ways to do it in real life rather than just talking to kids she met online. I'm sure there are a lot of programs that allow volunteers to work with kids, maybe tutoring them or coordinating activities, where you have young adults working with teenagers in a proper environment. If you want to guide and mentor younger girls that's the proper way to do it. You don't go on your Youtube channel with thousands of followers and put up a shady form requesting personal information to contact them privately.

Ruby should really look at Holly and realise doing a master's is not a good idea. With her grades, Ruby would walk into Oxbridge no problem, sure. But it's more of the same isn't it? Just more top grades, inevitably, no work experience etc. What's Holly doing with hers now, nothing by the looks of it.
If she really wants to be an author she would be better off doing a creative writing type master's - not offered at Oxbridge to my knowledge. For example, Sophie Mackintosh wrote The Water Cure during a similar course at Warwick and it was shortlisted for the Man Booker prize.

okay that's ... basically how you would protect a small child. and thinking that she should be protected from this hard world is dangerous. we all have to learn how to cope with different stages in our life, with difficult things we encounter. that's how we grow. knowing that the world isn't just flowers and tea and happy family and apple slices is important.
I'm not very mature for my age, but I faced a few difficult things and I'm sure you all did. Some things aren't nice and are very uncomfortable. Ruby has to learn that, too.

Yes but you're probably not getting brand sponsorships and making a living off social media. This is her job so she should be more professional. It's not some private page that only a couple dozen friends see. If she wants to promote herself as an author and also promote her stupid planners it should be treated as a business account.Obviously y'all are entitled to talk about whatever you want but I find it a bit dumb when people make fun of Ruby for making literacy mistakes on social media like with the whole POV thing, I'm an english student too and I (hopefully lol) use correct grammar in essays but when writing stuff on texts/snapchat/insta idgafit's not that deep

It's nothing to do with it being the best step for her career wise; she wants to be an author, so something creative would be the best step, which Oxford doesn't offer. She wants to go because it's her clinging onto a childhood dream, so if she gets in, not only (in her mind) is she vindicated after the bullies at Oxford didn't give her a place first time round, but she will be able to preach to her subscribers that everything works out in the end, just have to believe etc.
She'll be dreaming of posting "Study with Me at Oxford" and putting Oxford into every title and romanticising it at every opportunity. It's just like Jack Edwards, who applied about 3 separate times. It's sad that they place all their self-worth on a place at one university and can't move on or accept that perhaps (shocking as it may be to them) they aren't cut out there and there are (amazingly to them) other students who are more suited and more capable.
I wouldn't be surprised at all with a 76 if Ruby gets a place as at Masters-level there's no interview for her to trip up on. The content will be unbearable.

Is that really an impressive feat if you have endless amounts of free time and no responsibility though? Anyone can joylessly fill words on a page one hour a day like Ruby does when they have the infinite pot of free time without responsibility that she has. Potential comes when there's some tiny amount of imagination and talent, however messy and raw, and Ruby has shown no improvement or imagination in anything. She can only write about herself, or things she's pulled from other books, and she hasn't grown better at even the basics of writing, like spelling, grammar and punctuation.
I've happily given her credit for writing a book and publishing it before. It was a complete mess - unfinished, unedited, thoughtless, highly derivative and poorly-written - but hey, at least she did it herself. You can't look at that final product and say Ruby didn't write and publish that all on her own at a young age. But Ruby herself doesn't consider that an accomplishment any more. She's erased it from history - she and her agent are hailing 'Lottie Potter and the Missing Child Depacle' as her debut book. She's self-identifying as an "aspiring" writer/author. Erimentha Parker doesn't count, because Ruby didn't get a £100,000 advance from Penguin Publishing for it.
She's pushing the same mentality that she does with grades onto books: You've not done your best unless you've gotten the highest grade possible, and you're not a writer unless you've been given a lucrative publishing contract. It's stupid, misguided and completely toxic. In Ruby's eyes, if you've self-published, you're not a writer. If you write for yourself, you're not a writer. If you haven't been given a three-book deal from Harper Collins, everything you've wrote means nothing.
It's yet another thing that she doesn't enjoy to begin with that she's turned into more and more of her toxic, competitive stupidity.
