tiktoker turned book tuber and 'author' who thinks reading Russian classics and being a hedonist makes up for a lack of personality
her hedonism is just drinking wine and eating a cheese board btw she's hardly Dorian Grey
Didn't she post a video with Jack Edwards a few days ago? It keeps popping up in my recommended despite me not following either of them

You will discover everything there is to discover about her by taking a 15 second look at her yt channel 😬😂
Noo, she's insufferable. Actually think she's even more pretentious than Ruby, just in a very different way. Those emojis were accurate. Especially this 😬😬😬😬 They have the same management? That explains a lot.

She even has a Paris video too! I think we should crowdfund an apartment for Dakota, Ruby, Jack and Jade so they all get to be flatmates far away from me.

Time to start checking the internet histories of all your friends and relatives. Just kidding, don't do that. You don't know what kind of fetishes you'll uncover. You'll never be able to look your grandma in the eye ever again.

Hahaha the idea of Ruby being flatmates with this girl! I can imagine all the passive-agressive post-it notes to please clean after herself and not be noisy in her room after 9pm. Meeting random hookups as they sneak out in the morning...

Actually I don't know anything about her so I don't know if she'd be like that lol. She seems a bit conceited and annoying but at least it looks like she's enjoying her life.

Dakota Warren needs a thread! At first I was enjoying her book recs, but she became so egotistical it no longer felt funny/ satirical. Just uncomfortable. Like she genuinely believes she's the hottest thing on Earth. Don't get me started on the mouth close-ups and her new habit of slowly/ "seductively" licking her lips. She also body checks + flashes the camera a lot. Her fans will legit eat the dirt she walks on, it's a bit scary. That being said, she does have good book recs and I go away with a few new things on my TBR (unlike Rubes). Not sure how good her own published work is though.

So, she went to see an orchestral performance of The Firebird today. Words can't express how desperately I want to gatekeep Stravinsky from her. I swear if she starts using The Rite of Spring in her videos I will sue her for emotional damage.

Just went to look at some of her book recommendations and I've got to say that her book-related vids are more interesting than Ruby's. At least she does actually seem to read what she recommends! Still think she's pretentious though.

Here's a hilarious, nightmare-inducing video for fans of The Rite of Spring.

Do yourself a favour and don't watch any of her Christmas videos. Or any of her non-Christmas videos.

I was just thinking about how much I've read this year, and it's really put into perspective how unimpressive Ruby's reading output is?

I bought my e-reader in April, and checking the stats I've read around 30 books in the 3 months I've had it (we'll give that as a lower limit.) Now, I don't think this is impressive. I don't really read much that I consider particularly challenging anymore. Steinbeck is what I'm currently tackling, am currently about a 1/3 of the way through Grapes of Wrath. Most of what I read is very pulpy (saga historical fiction novels for old ladies) or pop-nonfiction (ngl I love Ysenda Maxtone Graham, would not have found her without Ruby, also have been devouring Jennifer Worth's stuff.) I've also been a student, and hence have had ample time to fill with reading whatever rit takes my fancy.

But if you extrapolate my output, that's 60 books in 6 months (which I believe is realistic). I don't consider myself a bookworm like Ruby does, but the stuff she reads seems firmly on a similar level to what I read. Surely, for someone who loves reading as much as she does, that's a low output for that level of literature?

If we were talking more difficult to read and digest texts (Austen, Achebe, Dostoevsky, Joyce etc) 56 in 6 months would be incredibly impressive, but at the level we see it seems low for a literature student (esp with the corners she cuts to count it.)

I'm not sure if people have been following my revelations especially but I would like to thank everyone here for encouraging me to challenge my perception. It's certainly opened my eyes a bit.

idk about 'impressive' (I dont think reading any number of books is impressive. people should read for enjoyment and not to impress themselves or other people), but 60 books in 6 months is a lot. thats a book every 3 days. it's not realistic for most people with responsibilities, work, school imo. I dont think a 'low output' of reading is Ruby's problem - it's that she skims books and rarely delves into the text. If Ruby read 5 books a year and actually engaged with the content she would get much more out of her reading. LMFAO lets not act like Ruby needs to do any more of those ridiculous 'I read 5 books in a day videos'. Quantity means nothing.

I agree here. I don't think reading is about "output" (idk what that's even supposed to mean, you're not putting anything out, surely it's more about putting something in). If your primary way of quantifying what you've read is the number of books, that seems pretty shallow and performative. It really means nothing. Reading a book does not equal fully absorbing the information. Purposefully reading something slower can mean you're being more thoughtful about the writing. There are plenty of people who will read one book to every 5 that Ruby does, and still get way more out of it than she ever will.

Especially with Ruby, considering she lies about what she reads and how long it takes her to do it.

The books in her readathon list were all very short. It wouldn't have been hard for anyone with a wide open schedule like Ruby to read them all in a day. And yet, she still didn't do it.

She had to stitch together over a week of footage with 9 outfit changes and lie her ass off that she did it all in a day. And she still clearly didn't read all 5 books in full. All for the hollow, unearned sense of superiority she gets when people comment praising her for accomplishing so much in a short space of time.

When given the opportunity to correct the record, she doubles down with lies:

What a sad, pathetic and embarrassing existence.

Bit off-topic but on the subject of BookTubers, does anyone have any good ones they like to watch? I know of Steph Bohrer who I've been meaning to start watching. I love YA/New Adult but I feel like this thread has opened my eyes to how many BookTubers just... don't have much to say about what they're reading lol.

uncarley, sally thames and EKG are my faves but they don't really read YA

What the duck is that question on her YouTube channel? If I were to publish would you read?

Um…. Talk about testing the waters to see if you’d rake in enough money. She clearly was told to ask that. These people are disgusting

To think of all the writers out there who have emails unread by publishers and can’t get their foot in the door. Yet ruby gets hers because of the fans, gross

lol she sure got over her scruples about relying on youtube for book sales in record time 😂

petition to add one more option - “yes please, for snark purposes”

wait. ”If I were to publish”? Is she implying she’s considering self-publishing after all?

All of Ruby's polls have such an undertone of insecurity.

Also lol how she's been posting writing content since the end of her degree and is only just now asking whether her audience are interested in her writing.

Interesting that 'maybe' is the most common answer; she was definitely expecting majority 'yes' and only posting to validate what she was already going to do.
