Yeah, I can't imagine undergrad dissertations being published unless it's a first which we all know won't be the case for Roobee.

For my MA at UCL we were given a contract of sorts basically saying whether or not we wished to have it published/shown to future students as examples/etc.

So I doubt we'll ever see Roobees dissertation...shame

I remember having to fill in a form for my undergrad saying whether I was happy to have it shown as an example, but as far as I know my uni didn't do anything else with UG dissertations

My MA course hasn't indicated whether they'll be putting them anywhere, but it seems potentially likely? My MA is already way better than my BA though and it's only been a year

It's not awful, I think to some extent we've seen Ruby go through three years of uni (technically four) and she hasn't grown as a person, she's still the same person she was when she was at high school. She'll be upset if she does badly, but it'll probably be better for her in the long run if she fails/gets below first (although the two are probably the same to her).

She did get a comfortable first in 2nd year and a first in 1st year too (I think). She does go to a reputable uni too. The only reason I can think of why she is floundering so much with her diss and could potentially fail is because of her ED brain rot

Speaking of, I just searched up her first year results video to confirm and the contrast between her skin/complexion/hair from then to now is absolutely shocking.. I didn't even realise she had gotten that bad. I really hope she gets help before she crashes and burns spectacularly

I don't think she'll fail her degree or get a 3rd overall (and I don't want her to), but I'd be angry if this dissertation gets a first because I don't think she deserves it.

A lot of the kids who are left out or behind their peers on social development scale go on to develop a superiority complex as a coping mechanism. Pretty much any alternative kid in m/hs has a "people at my school are all stupid I don't need them" attitude.

Definitely, but I do think most of these kids grow out of this attitude once they've left school. I'm not going to judge Ruby for any of her young teenager attitudes because, well, 14-year olds can be a nightmare lol, but it's concerning that she's graduating age and still in that headspace.

Also, was that video by Marfa a joke or serious? I honestly can't tell.

Yeah I thought that was super weird too and I didn't see how it related at all to the main topic of her diss. If her diss is about Carroll's letters, why was she wasting words on some abstract Greek mythology concept about the artist and the muse? It was worrying to see in the video that she had gone off on a tangent like that

To be honest, her (current, lol) dissertation topic felt a bit of a miss to me from the very beginning. I personally find it kind of symptomatic of her very limited grasp of the literary field (although this is coming from a Comparative Literature grad so I might be misunderstanding her course); first off, she is using Carroll's letters as a primary source which is really useless without a properly contextualised research question (as letters are semi-literary at best and were most likely not intended for publication which pends further questioning on their relevancy to the topic) and also, even when she wants to open up topics of epistolary genres, there is the very problem of intent behind them (letters are tricky since, when authentic, they can be either useless without context or with minimal interest to interpretation - and when artificial, there is the whole field of epistolary novel which has absolutely nothing to do with her). So, she'd first have to establish their literary merit and then probably place them within some sort of context to justify her specific choice? Also, will she ever consider any sort of theory of autobiographical discourse? She really shot herself in the foot with this topic imo, it's too broad for an undergraduate and also just really, really...meh. I know her goal was to "contribute something to the scholarship" and this will be either tragically under-researched or just unintelligeble since there are so many tangents to go off and none of them really go anywhere. Oops.

Exactly. After all this time, I think it's telling that we still can't figure out her intended line of argument. Said it a few times before, but I also think it was a big mistake to try and incorporate gift-giving into the dissertation. Oh Ruby, why didn't you choose something related to Victorian girlhood.

The change from the active to the passive muse and how they were not being paid could make an interesting research question and/or a feminist discussion of intellectual property of women or art as a social process rather than individual achievement.
Of course none of this is even remotely relevant to her ACTUAL research and dissertation. This, again, is the perfect example of going on tangents and doing all of them half-assed instead of focussing on one thorough argument.
