in what world does she live in that she had the thought process that led her to believe that a cut paragraph is content worth sharing on youtube

Sshhh!

Don’t listen to @roundmidnight, Roobee, the rest of us all feel it‘s simply wonderful content and you should definitely share more! In fact, why not share your whole dissertation? 👀

I'd honestly love to read it. I work as a writing tutor for uni students so it is 100% a selfish interest. I can't judge the whole obviously but it seems so scattered. And willfully obtuse, as well, like she wants it to be hard to understand. This is classic budding academic writer stuff. Digressions, convoluted sentences, additional research and citations that only muddy the water instead of making your point clearer. I've seen lots of students fall into a trap where they skip out on explaining how they got from point A to B and assume the prof can read their mind. Feeling torn up about having to cut stuff is also a part of that budding academic writer stage. You tend to think everything is valuable, interesting, or relevant.

I've done all my schooling in Canada so idk how these dissertations are handled but my uni has an online database where any grad/postgrad student can submit their thesis or dissertation for anyone to read.

I feel that I'm getting stressed for Ruby's dissertation especially when she is mentioning that she is going over to see if she needs to do extra research. There has to be a point where she just has to stop messing around with the dissertation and get it done and handed in. How much work does she have left to do?

Where you feel stress, I feel pure malicious glee 😁 We’ve all been saying for weeks that she’s floundering, and I even thought we might be guilty of a bit of wishful thinking, but the closer we get to the submission date, the more obvious it becomes that her diss is a hot mess. Not a good look for our ✨💫productivity queen💫✨🙌 is it?

RUBY PLSSS 💀💀 “Carroll acts as a narrator but visually fades into the background” you mean like a narrator?? Visually? You mean he wasn’t in the illustrations alongside Alice? Authors usually aren’t. And his “child-muse” (Alice Liddell I’m guessing?) was also the muse for his erotic photography. I hope she’s not glossing over Carroll’s creepy obsession with kids. It’s also a valuable waste of words to be talking about Ancient Greek muses when your diss is on the Victorian period and it’s not relevant. It could have just been a sentence but it doesn’t supplement her argument at all, it’s just a way to show off all the needless research she’s been doing.

Let me get this straight - is she simultaniously adding more secondary research into her dissertation and cutting out whole paragraphs for the sake of her word count? The days immediately before your dissertation should ideally be for proof reading, formatting etc., not adding new content. Also, the paragraph made no sense. It screamed "I'm using flowery language to make myself sound smarter but everyone can see through that".

I don't know if this is fact or my pregnancy brain telling me it is a fact but once dissertations are graded aren't they available to read online

She's like, "if I add random adverbs to my sentences they'll suddenly start making sense, right?"

Based on the edits she's making in the latest video, plus the fact that we haven't gotten a new dissertation diary in weeks, I feel like we can conclude that she's doomed. And yet I would have said she's doomed based on any of the other examples we've seen of her work, but she consistently gets good marks (or at least she says she does). I am HYPE for the soon-coming "reacting to my dissertation grade" video. If she releases nothing I will assume she failed.

I think Roobie is definitely influenced by Hermione, or sees her as a role model when she does her university dissertation.

In Roobie's mind she is syooo studious and smart with all the "extra curricular" knowledge (like the victorian gift giving and other bs... I can't keep track of them). Just like Hermione and her light reading!

Dear Roobie Doodlie Doo, Hermione is a FICTIONAL character and Harry Potter is a work of FICTION. In real life you aren't going to impress professors by writing extra words and going off tangents that have nothing to do with your dissertation topic or your degree. It is the ability to summarise what you've learnt in concise language and the selection of materials that shows the professor your understanding of the topic. Some folks here mentioned that Roobie is making a poor and unrealistic attempt to fill the gaps of academia with her undergrad dissertation, I think she's doing the complete opposite to what she thinks she's achieving. Roobie should take her undergrad dissertation more seriously if she wanted a good grade, not this play pretend she's doing with her degree. Again, PSA: Axetaaah is not Hogwarts and you're not Hermione, Ruby.

Not usually undergrad, no. PhDs generally are and sometimes masters depending on the uni

Yeah, I can't imagine undergrad dissertations being published unless it's a first which we all know won't be the case for Roobee.

For my MA at UCL we were given a contract of sorts basically saying whether or not we wished to have it published/shown to future students as examples/etc.

So I doubt we'll ever see Roobees dissertation...shame

I recently submitted a piece of academic writing for an award and like everyone else here, I‘m extremely confused by her writing process. I had several rounds of comments from four different people and therefore I had about 5-6 different drafts too, but most of the changes were minor, like adding a bit more background info or changing sentence structures. And with the dissertation I think she only got two meetings with her adviser? The general structure or logical progression of my writing never changed. What in the world is she doing? I also stayed several hundred words under the word limit because everything that needed to be said was already included. She is making the whole process so hard for no reason, it‘s embarrassing.

Just found out today that my piece actually got chosen for the award.😁 Whatever Ruby is doing is quite entertaining, but sad.

Unless she decides to gift her knowledge upon the world and publish it on a website herself under guise of “inspiring the youth coming after her that they too can over coke anything, even the bullying she experienced, can achieve a university degree” 🙄

What if she does get a first? I’ve realised I must be a horrible person because I don’t want her to. How awful is that?
