Hey, new member here. Pardon my english, it isn't my first language.
I can't believe I found this here lol I thought I was the only one who found her kinda weird and getting progressively weirder xD Does anyone else feel like she might be autistic though, I don't want to speculate cause that is rude but I know people with autism who behave in ways extremely similar to that of Ruby.
Off the top of my head, one of the key factors of autism in girls is actually executive dysfunction, as in they either procrastinate or jump from one thing to the other without really accomplishing what they set out to do. Almost like ADHD but not quite. It explains why she feels the need to clock every second.
Another one is the inability to understand social cues or the framework of society/ human behaviour. It would explain why she loves aesthetics, it's probably cause it's the easiest way of being normal( or being seen as normal) or having a readymade personality that fits into a framework she doesn't understand.
I have no idea if this is coherent lol, just something o was thinking about.

brb frying 60 eggs (lol this is actually a thing though, freezer cooking)
Oh I'm a big lover of batch cooking comes in very useful with working shifts
But I can see all Ruby's 12 year old views now filling the fridge with cold pumpkin porridge

ot: I once cooked through an entire Indian cookbook during my vacation, ended up with 60+ meals in my freezer… was working whifts at the time and it came in so handy! Not to mention more flavour than Roobee will be exposed to in her entire lifetime.

In her defense, I think Back to School is a fine way of wording things as it encompasses college/university students and high school students. I'm from the US and that's usually how school/college supplies are marketed. "Getting ready for the new academic terms" seems a bit too wordy.

I'm not a fan of the overused b-roll, though.

I understand planning some go to outfits and planning them but what is the point of making a categorised list??? Is it because she has such a ridiculous amount of clothes? And considering some of the outfits she's shown online the planning hasn't done much.

How many times have we seen this exact shot? I can't think of any particular videos it's shown up in, but the fact that she's going into her final year of university and still reusing this one clip of school says a lot. (It's in the first few seconds of the video). There's also a lot of reused footage with Blakeney and Molly, clips of her studying, and shots of the planner. I really think she put together most of the intro without actually filming anything new.

Because I hate myself and I have too much time on my hands, I'm going to try and sum up the 35 things -
It's divided up into four parts - academic, organisation, lifestyle, and 'fun'.
(Side-note: she repeats the phrase 'do X so you don't have to worry about doing X later' so many times)

Academic - 'because obviously that is probably the most important bit'
1. 'look through your course information and familiarise yourself with the classes you're taking' - make Notion pages, basically
2. 'start doing some pre-reading and actually prepare academically' - do all your work for week 1.
3. 'do at least one piece of critical extra reading' - already making more work for herself. The clip here (1:30) is of her writing 'Empire of Liberty' which I think was one of her modules last year?
4. 'set up your academic planner' - a planner advert, of course.
5. 'set up your folders - if you're going to be using folders. Or Notion, if you're going to be using notion'.
6. 'set goal grades' for each of your subjects and 'make a note of how you can achieve them' - and write them down in your✨academic planner✨ of course. Her goal grades are 75, 75, 72 for modules, and 76 for her dissertation, and the ways she can achieve her goals are literally only 'read widely', 'historical research', and other very specific, targeted, and focused strategies
7. 'put your key dates in your calendar - deadlines, term dates...'
8. 'look through your notes from last year' - declutter
9. 'back up key documents in a second location in case you lose them' (good shout, I'll give her that)
10. 'familiarise yourself with last years notes' - feat. another reused clip of sixth form (3:39)

Organisation -
11. get rid of any stationery that isn't working - 'obviously you have no use for a pen that doesn't work'
12. make a shopping list to go stationery shopping (with....... stationery, I guess?)
13. clean out your schoolbag from last year
14. wipe out your bag with 'cold water and soap' - this is 'quite nice to do on occasion'
15. pack your bag, and write down what you want to keep in it (pointless busywork, anyone?)
16. pack your pencil case, as above. She says she used to write down a list of stuff in her pencil case and 'every month' she would 'cross-reference' it with the stuff that was actually in her pencil case.
17. 'label things' - school jumpers, pencil cases, etc
18. make a 'school emergency kit of things you might need' - period pads, lipbalm, deodorant, etc. Surely that's just things that are useful to have in your bag in general?
19. 'do some decluttering'
20. 'clean your bedroom thoroughly' - hoover under your bed, she says! Because apparently cleaning is a great way to 'mark in a new mindset'.
21. a 'digital declutter'

Lifestyle -
22. write down some 'easy lunch or dinner ideas' - feat reused footage of tiny portions
23. write down some 'good study snacks' - one of hers is 'mug of peas' (6:51 for anyone who wants to screengrab the whole thing)
24. make sure you have 'dry snacks' in the house that are easy to transport - have a 'designated snack box' for food to eat during the day
25. write down your 'ideal day' - morning and night routines, etc. feat. reused footage from said morning and night routines
26. write down what extracurriculars you want to sign up for
27. write down what you want to 'do and achieve' before the end of term
28. make some playlists on spotify - one study playlist full of classical music, and one motivational playlist
29. plan out five daily outfits so that you don't 'waste time thinking about what to wear' and then write them in Notion holy tit this girl's capacity for inane busywork (list at 9:00 if you want a laugh)

Fun, finally!
30. Read a 'long book you won't have time for during the school year'
31. print some photos to put up in your university room to 'reflect on memories from the summer'
32. 'make a list of the things that make you happy, so you can look over them when you're stressed'
33. make an aesthetic Pinterest board to get 'motivated and excited' about school - 'just really channel that motivation!'
34. 'penultimately, take a day off entirely!' feat. reused footage of twirling in fields
35. spend time with friends and family, make the most of seeing people, etc

This might be the thread's most boring post yet but I got halfway in and then sunk-cost fallacy forced me to see it through, I apologise in advance :ROFLMAO:

Thank goodness Ruby reminded me that I must make a list of my favourite snacks before I go back to uni! How would I ever remember that I like monster munch if I don't have it written down?

Why TF is she photographing her notes instead of scanning using Adobe or another scanning app?

Oxford paper actually comes with scanning markers now (yes I’m a nerd and wish I’d had this option at university 10 years ago -i didn’t even have a smart phone!)

"prepare seminar questions" that is so odd to me who prepares questions, they'll probably be answered as the seminar leader is talking then just ask for clarification if you're struggling. Not like it's a job interview or anything, familiarise yourself with the work makes sense but finding questions to ask before you've even studied anything seems strange

I lost it at "mug of peas"

Note that there is nothing about work experience, internships or joining clubs and extracurriculars at your university, which you might argue is a pretty important piece of advice you could give to students younger than you.
Certainly more important than "write down the snacks you like or what to keep in your bag, just in case you forget". One thing is being organized, another is turning every minute aspect of your life into a list or a routine or a tracker.

Is she even vegan or is she just pretending for the camera? Maybe it's just another element of the personality she's faking for the Internet.
Some vegans make exceptions for honey. I'm vegan and (please don't come for me) and I personally will eat honey if it's local and I know the beekeeper (I don't eat honey you find in the supermarket), but I do agree that it is weird that she doesn't explain her reasoning behind her food choices. I don't seem to remember her making any video/announcement or anything explaining why she was going vegan in the first place and what it means to her. I could have missed it though.

Did she genuinely include period pads in her ‘emergency kit’?! That surprises me… a bit of a grown-up thing for Roobes to be talking about isn’t it?!
I guess at the age of 21 she finally feels ready to reference periods in public

To clarify, I was not implying that you cannot call yourself vegan if you eat honey. I'm not vegan so I really have no leg to stand on about this lol
In the context of Ruby though it just feels like another label she just superficially and carelessly appropriates

Also, this was not just honey. This was Daylesford honey - given their prices (Daylesford is not just a ‘garden centre’, it’s an insanely expensive lifestyle and organic food brand) those bees have probably been given massages, spa-days and counselling so that any honey was willing donated to allow people like Ruby to enjoy their bounty guilt-free …

She labels things with her name so in case it gets lost.....

OMG In the US we are done with that kind of crap by 4th grade. I can't believe she actually does that. What the F?

We are adults. We pretty much do our best not to misplace or lose things. Keep your crap safe. But if we do lose something, if someone finds it they either turn it in to a main office or claim it for their own. That is what you get for being stupid. But please! We don't put our professors names on things! They would be livid! They are not babysitters! You lose something, you are responsible for resolving your own problem. This isn't elementary school. I am trying to imagine one of my professors or my advisor saying to me "someone left this pencil case in my office. Here, sweetie, I think it is yours!" o_O

Pretty much 99% of this video was old footage with new talkover. Nothing more. I usually enjoy back to school prep videos, but I prefer more personal in depth information, like the latest pens someone has found that they really like, a new way of organizing something (dorm room tours are fun) and we didn't get much of that last year due to Covid. But hers is just spilling the same info and shots from the past few years mumbled together with very little new information that is actually up to date and helpful to the viewer. Thus, lazy Ruby is at it again. She makes me want to puke.

Yeah, I agree that she's not the best spokesperson for veganism and doesn't really seem to clarify to her audience anything about her own views. I feel like for someone who says she values learning and education, she should be a lot more open to discussing these things and engaging in actively learning about veganism and talking to her audience about it. Like everything she does, it feels very performative.

Regarding all the posts talking about how "you can't be 90% vegan" or whatever, I have to say, I disagree with the sentiment. While Ruby is certainly not someone who falls into this category (she has access to basically any food she could ever want), there are cases when someone can be a vegan and consume animal products. Vegans abstain from consuming/using/buying animal products within what is "possible and practicable," and there are a lot of nuances and complications in what that can mean. Many vegans are not only vegan to abstain from consuming meat, but to help the environment, and some of these vegans consume animal products that would otherwise go to waste. I see no issue with this as long as you are not actively supporting the industry and creating demand. This also goes for used leather (synthetic leather is terrible for the environment) etc. Of course, that's just my opinion, but I think such black and white ideas of moral philosophies are counterproductive.

I'm going to stop harping on about this now, but I think we can all agree that Ruby's veganism is rather performative and the absence of evidence of critical engagement with the moral dilemmas surrounding the philosophy/lifestyle of veganism is more evidence that she's not a "real vegan" and rather plant based than eating a bit of honey is. I hoped that made sense haha

Is she serious at this point? I sometimes decide what i am going to wear the night before and put the clothes out. But making a notion list? It's just stupid, unrealistic, and pretended.
