Just to throw out a different opinion, I'm an English student about to start on my PhD, and I used folders/my pencil case literally every day during my MLitt. I would store and organise my handwritten notes from seminars etc in folders/files, organised by module and week and put any relevant research/secondary reading in with the notes from that week's seminar.

I know lots of people do their notes digitally etc but I just can't take stuff in unless I'm actually writing it out by hand.
To be fair, I am a proper grown up with a responsible job and I still that myself to a new pencil case at this time of year - I have no permanent desk or locker at work so having a pencil case with the stuff I need it in makes sense. I also still handwrite most of my notes, I just can’t get on with digital note-taking systems and by handwriting a) I’m keeping up my handwriting skill and b) it actually helps me to remember things better than typing.

She loves to read Spanish poetry! 😂 We keep learning fascinating new facts about Roobee through the ads she does.
I am absolutely certain I saw her respond to a comment a couple of weeks ago of someone telling her to try reading Spanish poetry, cheeky how she’s taken that idea and used it for an ad 🤣

Nah this outfit has sent me
Everything in this picture exudes sadness: the face, the outfit, the whole situation. Her eccentricity is getting out of hand.

This girl needs to get away from the internet, have a drink with friends, read without doing a performance... just live without doing eccentricities. Being different is OK, just keep it to yourself.

We also get the immortal line "I wanted to share a day in my life with you as I feel like it's been a long time since I've done one." This is her third "day in the life"/routine video this month.
Yes but she has only shown us Monday Tuesday and Wednesday we still have another four days in the week which in Ruby's world is four different routines

Many of the things Ruby does are things I do (i'm 21 and a few months older than her) I read childrens books and I love to dress up and cosplay. But I'm still a normal uni student. I don't drink or party and I'm not ashamed by that. Another thing that annoys me with her is that she's 21 and she's not bothered by a job (ye her parents are well off) But she's not getting a job or at least looking for experience. She's spoiled as hell. If she was taken into the real world I'm sure she wouldn't survive and run back to mummy and daddy, like she's done before. I'm still trying to look for a job and honestly I'm not successful but at least I'm trying. Yes I think I'm childish but there is a time and a place for being childish and that's not when I need to be an adult.
I'm 22 (geez I just turned 22 two days ago and it has not sunk in yet) and I think to a certain extent we should cut ourselves some slack and not worry too much about what we're supposed to do as adults. Everyone does things at their own pace. As long as you're striving to do the best you can and be as independent as you can in your circumstances we shouldn't stress too much about it. I say this because feeling mature and independent is something that I struggle with to the point of obsession (a large part of this stress stems from the fact that I am deathly afraid of driving) and I know I personally should be easier on myself in that regard.

I wrote a poem:

Miserable courgette porridge.
Twinkly music hiding a lonely anxious existence.
A dark countryside mansion filled with empty dead space.

Truman Capoat (to rhyme with gloat). It's somewhere in the first 7 minutes of the video (all I managed to watch without going, "oh for goodness sake" and closing the tab).

Whilst he was vital for that era, I don't find his characters hold up well in this one. His insistence that penetrative simultaneous orgasms were the only "natural" ones made me cringe.

That said I was never going to view an author who said, "If I had my way, I would build a lethal chamber as big as the Crystal Palace , with a miltary band playing softly , and a Cinematograph working brightly; then I'd go out into the back streets and the main streets and bring them all in, the sick , the halt and the maimed : I would lead them gently , and they would smile me a weary thanks; and the brass band would softly bubble out the Hallelujah Chorus" as one whose work deserves to be feted.
I must admit that my own knowledge of Lawrence is very limited. I've only ever read Lady Chatterley and I didn't know he wrote that which, I agree is appalling. I don't like that he wrote that and I can understand why his opinions on "natural" orgasms would be an outdated and anachronistic view in these times. I loved Lady Chatterley and as with so many writers both modern and not, I think it is important to love their work with the caveat of the context of the times they lived. I loved LC because I thought the characters and plot were beautiful and important. That's enough. I don't go into reading a book necessarily knowing anything about the writer. The writer themselves isn't important; their skill at telling a story is. DH Lawrence was a flawed human being who could write a bloody good story. For me, that's all I need. For Ruby, I think that is what she needs to open her mind to. She has a very limited, very childlike view of the world and it needs to be exposed to the more grown up and adult half of her life.

Her dark academia reading suggestions are embarrassingly bad and poorly thought out
Yeah, she clearly has no interest, no understanding and did no research into dark academia when she latched onto it as a fad.

Her entire criteria for a book or film qualifying as dark academia is: "It has a school in it, or one of the characters is a workaholic."

Like, she offers up The Children Act as one of the best examples of dark academia she could think of, because it contains a "pursuit of knowledge". I haven't read or watched it (and I doubt Ruby has, either), but from everything I can see, it's a standard legal thriller/drama. Is every John Grisham book dark academia now? Every police procedural?

Must remember to watch that classic dark academia series later: Law & Order.

Some vegans make exceptions for honey. I'm vegan and (please don't come for me) and I personally will eat honey if it's local and I know the beekeeper (I don't eat honey you find in the supermarket), but I do agree that it is weird that she doesn't explain her reasoning behind her food choices. I don't seem to remember her making any video/announcement or anything explaining why she was going vegan in the first place and what it means to her. I could have missed it though.
Also, this was not just honey. This was Daylesford honey - given their prices (Daylesford is not just a ‘garden centre’, it’s an insanely expensive lifestyle and organic food brand) those bees have probably been given massages, spa-days and counselling so that any honey was willing donated to allow people like Ruby to enjoy their bounty guilt-free …

I’m pretty sure the ”I did it all by myself” is lies. She keeps mentioning how the process of getting a mortgage took so long ”because I’m so young” (lol she likes to repeat that). There’s zero chance Daddy Bones didn’t co-sign. So yes, she may have paid the deposit from her savings (probably partly from funds her parents have been setting aside for her since birth) and she may be getting the mortgage payment covered from the exorbitant rent she’s charging (here’s hoping it stays vacant for a while lol, I just want nothing good for her rn), but no actual bank would give out a mortgage to an eighteen-year-old iNfLuEnCer where the monthly payment would be a significant percentage of their monthly income without some guarantee.
Totally this. Myself and my partner are fully-grown adults, I work full-time in a fairly responsible job (if you can believe that lol) but because my partner is self-employed in the creative industries the hoops we had to jump through to get a mortgage were pretty significant. I really don’t believe that Ruby holds the mortgage on her cottage alone and I’m sceptical that she was able to buy it by putting down the minimum deposit. For a start, it’s really difficult for a first-time buyer to be able to buy a house to let out, because the banks like you to already own a property so that you have something behind you if it all goes tits-up - and if she has a BTL mortgage then the ‘minimum deposit’ was probably quite a bit higher than it would have been for a residential mortgage. Given that her dad works in finance I’m sure he knows all the loopholes (or knows someone who knows …) that would have allowed Ruby to be a landlord at 19 given that her main income is from YouTube, but there is no way that she has done this ‘alone’.

Hmmm... can anyone remember how close she said the house she bought was to his family home? I may have found it (but I obviously won't post the address here). There's only one house that sold in her area within 6 months of her video which matches the architecture she showed, and it sold for over £500,000.
I can't help with your question but just want to commend you on your research skills 👏

First time poster, long time lurker 😉 found a (possibly dodgy) link to the video where Ruby says she has bought a house:
Thank you so much, I was wanting to watch this for a while now!
Omdz though I can see why she deleted it! It’s awful, the stuff she says from around 3:30 - 3:50 is just dreadful she really cannot read a room and lacks self awareness!

She was trying to seem more likeable and down to earth but it backfired egregiously because no normal person would buy a freaking house because they get jittery when they're home alone. It's like buying a plane and hiring a private pilot to get over your fear of flying. If anything this explanation makes her seem even more out of touch. She really did not need to make up an excuse about her mental health to justify her (or her parents') decision to invest in a rental property.
That reminds of Grace (Grackle on YouTube) who wanted to address her homesickness: she came up with a reasonable method by actually staying in a hotel or AirBnB for a night every so often. She didn't go and buy a house.

I can’t understand why Molly would choose to spend time with Ruby, and likes every post she does etc. When Molly made her comeback, she was very much moving away from the ED recovery persona and seemed to be discovering who she is as a young woman. Why then spend time with a self absorbed, inarticulate person who wants to be a child? Disappointing.

I do agree that Ruby would benefit from opening her mind to a wider range of literature (and views about the world). Even if she intends to do an MA in Children's Lit it would do her no end of good to explore and engage with other texts.

As to your points about Lady Chatterley. I agree to an extent: it is important to view texts through the lens of the time they were writing. In its historical context, it's an important book. As to it being a good story.. had DH Lawrence not dehumanised Sir Clifford over the course of the novel and said that he essentially deserved what he got on account of his paraplegia, I wouldn't have felt it necessary to read up on his view of euthanasia and eugenics. When an author's politics shines through with so bigoted a light I find it hard to see the story as a good/ enjoyable one.

I know this is a massive tangent from talking about Ruby, so thanks for taking time to share opinions. I often think there are more interesting discussions about literature on this thread than on Ruby's GR page. 🤣
That's absolutely fair and thank you for being so gracious when we discussed this. The ability to see differing points of view about something is becoming a fading skill in these times. Thank you and I agree, literary discussion is a lovely thing on these threads! xx
