I don’t want to speak on behalf of another poster and they can correct me if I’m wrong, but I think you’re missing the point of what they’re trying to say. They’re not talking about the pros, cons, rights, wrongs, benefits or losses and whether the EC set up is a good thing or a bad thing - they’re saying it is in place in the USA, that it’s always been place in the USA, and the candidates entering into a vote for the US presidency - as well as the people voting - were well aware of the set up whether they personally agree with it or not. So one “can’t” question its validity after a vote because when they voted, they were fully aware of it.

The comment I responded to asked if the roe v. wade decision was a democratic one. It hardly is because three justices appointed by the man who lost the popular vote can in no way be interpreted as a democratic decision. The fact that the electoral college went in Trump’s favor is secondary to that fact. A democratic decision implies input. We were steamrolled by Republicans.

I understand where you’re coming from. But I agree with the other poster more. A popular vote in this scenario doesn’t hold any weight, because the system currently in place doesn’t recognise that or take it into consideration. That’s not to say it’s right, just that in this case, it doesn’t actually mean anything.

There are two ways of approaching governing the US. The Democrats are guilted into bipartisanism and the Republicans play games with what they can legally get away with. I understand that you guys are making a case for the latter but at the end of the day, it impacts my life and it’s not a game.

It doesn’t feel like we’re living in a democracy and it hasn’t felt that way for several years now.

Imagine putting the supposed whims of an indefinite cloud deity above the rights and needs of a living, breathing woman. Decided by the same 'men' who tell you to 'shut your legs slut', while expecting every woman who happens to even glance their way to sleep with them at the drop of a hat.

We live in an unbelievably overpopulated world and offer no support during our lives for any matter of importance; health, finance or social issues, you name it. Yet we think it's a good idea to say duck it all and insist that every pregnancy ends in a child, even those that aren't compatible with life? Will you all be queing up to help nurture those lives and the fallout for the mother? I think bleeping not.

First women lose the right to be called women and now they lose the right to autonomy over their own bodies. What's left to take? I suppose at this rate we shan't have to wait long to find out.

Just give me one law that takes away the choice a man has over his body. There isn’t.

I just can’t believe this has happened. I can’t even articulate what I’m feeling right now but it is utterly heartbreaking.
I had a missed miscarriage at 17 weeks, I had to have a medical abortion February of this year.
I also was pregnant when I was 16 with my ex boyfriend. I had an abortion then out of choice because there is no way I could have coped with having a baby at such a young age. Do I still think about it - yes. Was it the hardest choice I ever made - yes. And this happened 11 years ago. However at the time it was the right one and no one ever took that choice away from me.
It’s just so so heartbreaking the way the world is going.

I think most people in the UK don’t give much thought to NI. It’s an afterthought. No point virtue signalling issues with womens rights or gay rights when you ignore what’s happening on your doorstep.

I had to travel to the UK for an abortion pre repeal and was very grateful for having that option but I wish more UK pro choice allies had had our back rather than constantly focusing on US issues.

The Abortion Support Network are UK based but offer help to women travelling from Ireland. They are always looking for women in the UK to offer transportation, somewhere to stay etc.
