Too many people in comments on Daily Mail were cheering when it was announced that Roe vs Wade was overturned. The same demographics would cheer if segregation was introduced, too.
Abortion became legal in the UK in 1967. Roe v Wade was 1973.
I don’t know about that last part. Taking abortion pills is safe for the vast majority of women but sometimes things go wrong. My young adult Christian Orthodox son was shocked yesterday when I told him that I had an unwanted pregnancy at age 40. I detailed all the different ways our lives would have been ruined if I'd had a third child. Thankfully, I lost it early on, but it could have been very different, and I'd have been one of those women he'd be condemning right now. He's directly benefitted from a pregnancy not continuing and he took that on board. I also explained to him that this ruling will cause countless deaths and ruined lives. Reproduction is womens business and we need full control. Nothing to do with anyone else. Nothing to do with men whatsoever. Women have been 'dealing with' their reproductive issues since humans began. It's a messy business, but it's our business.
I hope they can get abortion pills out to women. This seems like an easier and safer option.
Abortion was even available in the US prior to Roe v Wade. The only point of Roe v Wade is that it took the decision out of the states hands, thats all. Hence why there is still legal abortion in lots of parts of the US but not all of them.
Technically not all of UK, but in Great Britain only, therefore excluding Northern Ireland, sadly.
I know the feeling. I’m still affected by it. It was weird but nowhere near as weird as the American fight will be. Reading about this I’m definitely feeling a lot of the old stuff coming back up, I’m really having to censor where I post now because engagement with a lot of anti abortion people is almost like self harm. Focus on yourself and your own mental well being.
i’ve already seen a lot of people being told to delete their period tracker apps etc. the truly sad thing is that we live in an age of almost unprecedented digital surveillance, especially in the us - i think it’s only a step away from an official register, but there will certainly be some kind of monitoring in.
It blows my mind that there will be abortion in some states and not in others pretty much how it is now but worse. We had to get a boat or plane before we had more rights, I kept shuddering when I thought about Covid and the fact woman would have been forced to keep a pregancy during Covid and travel bans.
