If anyone is curious, this is how it currently stands on a state-by-state basis, but a lot could change in the following weeks (I wonder if more states will also now deliberatly go the opposite direction, and have zero gestational limit).

Interestingly, the law in Louisiana which has just made it fully illegal, was signed by a Democrat governor.

I have no words. Are those people who voted yes aware it's about things like the baby not being able to survive, the women's health, etc?

I can see women having to travel far just get an abortion. And I'm sure many will try to get illegal abortions.

America isn't a democracy anymore. They have a Democratic government yet were unable to stop the supreme court from this decision so votes make no difference. They know they are not accountable so forced through something that the majority of Americans don't want.

The Trump years were far more damaging than we thought - he managed to get 3 right wing holes into the supreme court.

I'm constantly staggered by how much men hate women.

Truly shocking news.

It’s kinda funny ( if funny is the right word to use ) to read how the people are celebrating the decision and saying alone the lines of “ every life matters” , “ innocent life begins at conception”, “ protect the unborn rights” etc.

In 2020 the guns were number 1 killer of children in the US. So what about their rights to live? What about their rights go to the school and not get shot in their classrooms? What about their heartbeat which won’t be heard anymore?
Same people who’s celebrating this decision are the same lunatics who’s shouting “ it’s my right to bear arms, guns to everyone!

This is just wrong. So so wrong. And they call themselves the greatest nation. Sigh.

Amy Coney Barrett has 7 children - I’m not sure how many are girls nor do I know how many girls the other justices have but I can’t help but wonder how they’ll feel if one of those girls ever gets pregnant but it’s ectopic and they’ll die because abortions are illegal.
Oh wait, it wouldn’t be an issue for them because they’ll have the means to travel somewhere where it’s legal. It’s disgusting.

Four are girls. She adopted two from Haiti, one girl, one boy. Her youngest son has Down’s Syndrome.

the governor of texas, who of course failed to protect a classroom of small children from a gunman, tweeted this nonsense:

these people only care about having the child born, with no care for what happens after it. the us has the worst maternity care, the worst welfare, the worst health care cover of any “first world” country. aside from all of the other horror with forced birth, they are also forcing women to have babies that they cannot afford.

i truly don’t understand how the “rights” of an unborn foetus somehow trumps the rights and choices of what a person does with their own body and life.

As a man I am embarrassed that other men feel the need to make laws on what a woman does or doesn't choose to do with her own body. At this point in history I bet any Afghani refugee's who are living in the US probably want to go back to Afghanistan because it's a more progressive place to live!!

to add: i also hate the “well you can put the baby up for adoption” response.

why should a woman carry a child she does not want for nine months, with the discomfort and danger of pregnancy, to then go through the pain and danger of giving birth to that child - to then pass it over to the wonderful us care system?!

none of these people live in any semblance of the “real” world and i really fear for what they’ll go after next.

interesting that justice thomas left “loving” off the list of bills he plans to attack though - because it’s the one that impacts him directly! they only care about themselves.

What's happened is a manifestation of how much women are hated.

Men hate women
Religion hates women
Even some women hate women

The War Against Women is alive and well.

Until this is reversed I will not be holidaying in America. They can duck Disneyland. I'd rather go to Afghanistan now.

Adoption doesn't work. Look at how many adoptions break down. The safest place for a child is with its own genetic kin. Yes there are decent adoptees, but there are many who aren't and who will fail to bond with the child and then that child is at risk. I grew up in the care system because my biological mother should never have had me. I was horrifically abused and neglected. Children will suffer because of this. Some of us are not meant to be here and abortion is the better and more humane choice.

This is all about control - control over women. If some of the mass shooters in the US were women or girls I actually think they would bring in gun control just to stop them.

lettersofnote just posted this section of a speech made by nora ephron 20+ years ago, all of it remains true re the treatment of women, it even names the very same judge who helped push this through:

Anyone who thinks policing of women's language has not led to this are deluding themselves. Every bleeping left winger in the last few years, including Planned Parenthood, have fallen over themselves to not use the word woman. Take that word away and you have no words to speak about your rights. Abortion becomes people's rights, no longer relevant to women.

If you think it cannot happen here in the UK, think again. Take away plain and simple language, the language used to talk about reproduction, menstruation, menopause, make all of them 'people's rights' and they mean duck all. Be kind left activism has done this, and that is as someone who is a life long leftist. The tit has gone too far. It has gone from 'be kind' to get on your bleeping knees and know your place.

In case you cannot tell, I am bleeping furious. I celebrated along with American women when Roe v Wade was passed. And I am mourning with them at its removal. Don't dare to try and tell me I am not seeing what I am clearly seeing. Don't tell me I am wrong about erasure of language. Part of my degree was linguistics, I know how powerful words are, and how powerful their removal is. For those at the back, if you have not got it yet, LANGUAGE IS IMPORTANT.
