Kind of wish they hadn’t won listeners choice again - their content just isn’t what it was at all and I felt not winning might send them a message.

I was a patreon, bought the merch, went to the live shows. Thought initially they were authentic and relatable.
Suruthi in particular started to grate on me and the Hillsborough thing tipped me over the edge. I cancelled my Patreon then because I found the opinion so classist and ill informed and the doubling down and flouncing off the FB group was icky.
I feel like Suru has gone completely 180 on her views. Hard to know if how she came across initially was all a front
or she is being brain washed by the fella.

Suruthi comes from good old middle class Letchworth in Hertfordshire. No idea where she went to uni. She went into event management and somehow had some grand marketing plan for the podcast.
It worked, if they had money behind them I don’t know. Didn’t seem like it from the videos Hannah used to post of the recording in a cardboard box over her head but they did start a Patreon straight away unlike many other podcasts and somehow they even managed to get Colin Sutton on an early episode!.
THEN, they were relatable and talked to people in a way that, regardless of political opinion, made sense to many of us in the middle, sort of adrift..
The promotion started heavily and it became annoying, the first podcast awards made me side eye them, then the begging for money that would have anyone else cancelled started, the shows, the book, every single time they get it wrong, yet always come up roses.
Even this Wondery deal, their Patreon dropped from £59k to £47k but is creeping back up, add in to that the advertising and all the cross platform interviews.... May not be the dreaded MFM or CJ but holy heck are they coining it in, even if they have outsourced all the research (which shows)

Well initially she was very left leaning, very socialist, woman of the people and duck the tories despite having what seems like quite a privileged upbringing.
Now shes 'unwoke' her words.
Id imagine if youve listened to earlier episodes and newer episodes you'd see it quite easily. I know I have.

As I said, I tend to dip in and out- I go from finding them likable to insufferable, often within the same episode!
I don't know why anyone would be proud to be "unwoke" so she doesn't care about social justice and isn't awake to the needs of others? And that's a good thing is it?
Using 'unwoke' is such a bat signal to certain people. No one needs to describe themselves that way unless they're actively feeding into the culture wars.
And I feel like old Suru (or who I thought she was) would understand the original meaning of 'woke' and realise that it doesn't really make sense to use it as a badge of identity.
It was just a warning for people, mostly from minority groups, to be aware of the systems and practices that may be at play against them, so they'd tell each other "stay woke". People might describe themselves as "woke" to say their eyes were open to these things but that's all. It wasn't a personality trait.
Edit: I say minority groups but really it was only used among black Americans. However, that's the basis of the phrase. For oppressed peoples to be aware of the oppression against them.

I think this is most evident in the description of Lucy Letbys bedroom in the recent episode - such over the top views about decor that it’s likely a ton of their listeners have (just cos you like true crime doesn’t make you immune to a live laugh love aesthetic), and not actually warranted when you see the picture of Letbys bedroom they were talking about.
By no means standing up for Letby btw - just found the whole segment so odd, to be that affronted by how her bedroom was.

Unpopular opinion but I had to stop listening to MFM and RH because they were constantly talking about ‘political’ stuff from the ‘left’ side of culture wars. Not because I hold opposing opinions but because I wanted true crime, not non expert opinions on this stuff. I actually like RH again as they just tend to actually talk about true crime now.
The main podcast is not so bad for it but under the duvet is just then airing opinions so maybe they’ve just moved it over there now.
