He really doesn’t like it when someone doesn’t just eat up what he is saying does he?

Of course if you were innocent you would have good reason to be devastated to be accused of these crimes. But JV’s reactions are sneering and arrogant and angry in a way that is threatening to the officers. His natural instinct is to belittle and berate.

This case is making me wish we still had the death penalty. There is no way they went from an ordinary couple wanting a family, to vile disgusting perverts abusing a baby. It’s not possible, they were already sick in the head and got a baby to live out their fantasies
I wonder how their pally SW feels now
I waver in my stance on the death penalty but in this case I'm in full agreement. He's lost his right to live as human being as far as I'm concerned.

Not intending to merail, but I remember that I didn’t cry, I didn’t scream or wail even though he was in dire straits. I was quiet and calm and focussed throughout. The tears flowed weeks later. Maybe that is a more ‘normal’ response medics are used to seeing, and why medics remarked on JV’s behaviour at the hospital as being strange.

For far too many men their DBS just means that they haven't been caught yet. 😡
I have always worked in frontline roles that require an enhanced DBS check. All a DBS can show is anything you have been caught for. Sadly there are plenty of people out there in roles they have specifically chosen so they can access vulnerable people with a clean DBS check.

Peter Wright KC is the real deal, one of the very best. He’ll rip these two creatures to shreds if they decide to give evidence.

Aside from utter disgust at that tub of lard flopping itself around wailing I just feel so heartbroken for Preston. His final moments robbed of their dignity by a histrionic creep, people around him that he hardly knew as he passed away. At least JV mum was there for him and it seems he had been cared for better by her than that monster and his pathetic boyfriend. I didn’t think it could get worse than what we already knew but I was wrong.

I’m thinking the acid reflux caused a lot of his restless nights, I know he was on medication for it, but I would’ve had his cot tilted and his cot right next to my bed to keep my hand holding his to comfort him, they had him in a separate room for godsake, I’d have kicked my partner to the spare room and had him in bed with me, these two twats had no idea how to treat him and that’s before the abuse 😡
Definitely!

Poorly baby in a new environment with total strangers - of course he was unsettled and sleeping badly. He was alone, in pain and frightened. He was desperately crying for his foster mammy - the person he had bonded with, felt safe with, and who he instinctively knew would comfort him and do her best to ease his reflux pain.

But he was left to cry and suffer alone and uncared for.

And as you rightly say. - that's before the intentional abuse. Thatcasual, uncaring neglect was more than cruel enough.

I hope this pair never get out of jail.

Thanks to stalwart Tattlers for commenting on this case - I'm not going to follow it live in news media because I don't know what hellish detail will come up next but I feel safer reading sensible Tattlers' research and comments.

I wouldn't follow this grim shit at all except I'm beyond angry that this 'senior teacher' could get his hands on a baby to do whatever he wanted with over an extended period of time - and I want to see these two (and any other incompetent others) answer for what's been done.

Taking the physical and sexual abuse out of it they were totally unsuitable to parent poor little Preston. Preston couldn’t sleep long due to his acid reflux, it must have been agony for him every time he was laid down, no bloody wonder he hardly slept and screamed a lot. You can’t leave someone with acid reflux laying down. the foster parents lovingly picked him up and soothed him, exactly what he needed to relieve the burning. The men never gave him a loving and caring home, my heart bleeds for him, and I can’t bear to think about the physical abuse, the emotional abuse is traumatic enough. RIP little man, you deserved so much more 😓
They started the adoption process at the end of 2021, by July 2023 they’d been fast tracked to murder an innocent child that should never have crossed paths with either of them. It beggars belief. How many more like them are waiting in line as we speak?

Its absolutely heartbreaking to think he was left with these 2 sick vile rats! Brusies to the back of throat, lips and all the bruises on his head even his bottom i cant even imagine the pain and trauma he experienced in his little life going from a warm loving foster home to then subject to this level of abuse its gut wrenching !
The fact he is so stone cold in his interviews no emotion towards the baby even thinking a nap in the car is wrong the resentment and signs are there! Evil twisted sick. Now is the time to bring back the death penalty. Preston was let down by everyone and I swear we are all going to need therapy after this i cant get the images out of my head of what he must have went through. I have a 2 year old and I just couldn't never imagine a baby experiencing this type of abuse ever !!!! Please praying to God these get what is coming to them !! As for his mum no way she didnt see all these bruises she was bathing and changing him surely she seen trauma to his bum i have no words for her other than she should be guilty aswell!

Didn't he say he fixed the leak that morning though with the glue? Sure they said plastic was found in the bath wonder what that was aswell
He did say he’d been fixing it but when asked why there was no water when the police went, he said oh it’s because the bath leaks and I’ve been trying to fix it but that’s why there is no water.
They tested it themselves and it didn’t leak so there should have been water.
I also kept finding it odd he’d always remember to say he’d thrown the bath seat in the sink…that’s clearly because it was never in the bath this evening. Effectively, all of this evidence (inc drs opinions about lack of water coming up/the gas readings etc) is leading the jury to conclude that Preston was never in the bath so therefore could not have accidentally drowned…

Anyone who even does the most basic level 1 safeguarding course is told that bruises on non walking babies are rarer than toddlers and that some places are very unusual for bruising or injuries in a child of any age. So soft places like tummy and bum cheeks, head, ear and neck and clusters on arms or thighs. Cheeks and mouths are also rare places for accidentally injury.

With a baby that you dress, bath and change nappies you tend to be aware of any bruises and know how they happened. Because you see their little bodies as you do everything for them. Of course he knew there were bruises but pretending he doesn't means he doesn't have to make up and remember another lie.

How often was Preston's social worker visiting?

My heart just breaks the more is revealed. I also think about the kids that JV taught. This must be so shocking for them too. He seems to have been very possessive of "his" year 11s and I imagine they were very shaken by what happened. Their arrests were public and will have been talked about locally

I have been feeling the same. I also felt that way reading the trial updates regarding Star Hobson, Arthur Labinjo- Hughes…Sebastian Kalinowski.
All those precious children who should have felt love and safety.

It really hurts and really affects me; but I feel like if this children had to LIVE it and experience it then I should
Be able to
Stomach reading it.
The is how I feel, too. I don't want to - but to turn my back on this degree of suffering, and this degree of evil, seems like a cop out and that I am betraying the children who suffer these abuses.

If we don't read it, it's easier to ignore it, deny it, pretend it isn't happening and even become blind to it. I didn't want my eyes open to this horror - most normal people don't - but none of us have the right to turn our backs on it. When we aren't aware, or are wilfully blind, that is when the cruelties continue because people think "Oh - no-one would do that! It's too horrible to even think of." That makes it impossible.in their minds.

I am now at the stage of thinking of the worst thing that anyone could possibly do - and assume that someone will do it, and also that someone with a more corrupt mind than mine will do something even worse. However foul it is - someone will get a kick out of it.

Believe it, and condemn it. But NEVER ignore it.

I’ve also just had a thought that neither men have appeared emotional in court so far. Nor was JV emotional in police interviews, he was dismissive if anything. If I was innocent and being accused of these horrendous things I’d be devastated. I’d be devastated hearing all the injuries to my (adoptive) baby. They’re both very cold

Hideous for the jury but they have to think about the little boy. Every single adult that poor child encountered let him down, it's their chance to get something right for him.

It can be read several ways can’t it - firstly a kind of dramatic, self-piteous kind of thing. Oh poor me, I was a model adoptive dad but now I’m going to get done for neglect, it was an accident but it was my fault because I left him in the bath, I killed him, boo hoo.

But there’s also a subtext of admitting the lesser crime of neglect, to deflect from the SA and the act of suffocation that likely killed Preston.
Thats my take on it. The admitting those things was deflection and an invitation for the staff to fawn and insist that no, he's a great daddy and he did everything right. To insist this wasnt his fault. The addition of him dropping in his profession and safeguarding was cynically in support of this.
It worked with the previous hospital visits and had the SW sending heart emojis ffs.

Exactly they need to say how old the bruises on his head and everywhere else was cos if they are older she would have seen them then why didnt she flag it she should be guilty aswell.... as part of the adoption process she should have been vetted aswell if I seen my grandchildren with 40odd injuries I would be questioning where they all come from. She changed his nappy and bathed him that day unless he absolutely beat him to death when he got home.

Can anyone say if the medical interventions could cause any of these injuries when he was in resus etc?!?! My mind is blown evil pair of bastards !
He had a perforated bowel which they said had happened shortly before hospital admission. This alone is very serious and he would have needed to be hospitalised for this.

To me that's not a normal reaction to a bereavement, even a sudden one?
I think it is a normal reaction, especially to a totally unexpected death . I remember a friend of my sisters dying in an accident and she vomiter when she found out.
