And also his coming home story is a lie too as he says Preston was sat up being sick and it was just ‘parental instinct’ that he needed to go to hospital. Evidence shows Preston was probably already dead when JMF got home. He knows exactly what went on.
This is really key. I think in all likelihood Preston was dead when JFM got home. He’d been in respiratory distress since approx 4.45 and hadn’t recovered. I find it hard to accept his story of Preston being sat up on the bedroom floor vomiting profusely and I’m wondering why he’s persisting with it.

The prosecution cross examination next week is going to be very interesting. The last hours of Preston’s life needs to be meticulously picked apart.

If social services were to audit and apply proper governance to see that kids were being treated well, things being adequately reported, and safe guarded this could have been avoided.

So you’re on here judging a crime- but I’m not allowed to judge a crime that is linked to this case. Had the original crime not been committed, none of this would have happened.
I think that is a very short sighted response. Yes if poor little preston had been born by a mother who hadn't committed horrendous crimes and wasnt addicted to many substances, this would never have happened.

Holy cow.

This thread is about the murder of a bright young thing who could have had the world at his doorstep, loved by the right people.

Instead he was abused in every single way till his death. His birth mother, imo doesn't enter into the equation.... with the right people around him, little preston could have had the best life.

In these circumstances I don't think the birth mother is to blame
[/QUOTE]

I suppose the point is that birth parents, whether directly or indirectly, are to blame for cases like this. Whether they are the abusers themselves or their actions mean that abusers have access to their child, be it a step parent and the birth parent doesn’t act to protect their child for whatever reason or the birth parents actions result in the child going into a system that gives abusers access to them.

What are these texts about the plane? I haven't seen those.
Sorry, I can’t find it in the live blog now, but from memory it was along the lines of JMF apologising because he was stuck at the airport due to a delayed flight from Heathrow, and JV responding with something like “this is all your effing fault”

Not a huge thing in the grand scheme of everything else, but it did ring alarm bells for me. It seemed like an example of JV weaponising a situation that was completely outside JMF’s control and somehow making him responsible for it. It goes back to my theory that the people around JV may have felt they had to constantly manage his moods and reactions, tread on eggshells and placate him to avoid the fallout from his outbursts

I agree that JV looks to be a rather histrionic person, if his behaviour at A&E is anything to go by, not to mention his talk of suicide when life wasn’t going his way. One of those people who enjoys playing the victim, even though it’s mostly a DARVO tactic.

This is also what I think - just from his ridiculous "look-at-me-I-am-the-real-victim-here" behaviour at the hospital.

I think he'd have been a nightmare to live with - but I think we all agree that that doesn't mean that you sacrifice an innocent baby on the altar of his narcissisim.

Going off topic a little but does anybody know why the school he worked at were doing a welfare check on JV? Was it to do with Preston or to do with the school? I don't really understand why somebody’s employer would be going to their house to check on them when they’re on paternity leave and presumably not particularly in touch with them at that time? If I went on maternity leave and was struggling during that time there’s no way my employer would come to hear of it and turn up at my house. Maybe I’ve misunderstood the purpose of the visit.

JMF has been charged with SA; there must be some evidence to support that charge even if we haven't heard it. I hope he doesn't get away with it.
Remember it was JMF's DNA found in the cot sample that contained a sperm cell (which can't have originated from Preston at his age), not JV's. That DNA alone isn't conclusive proof that he committed SA as the forensics have made clear, but it also doesn't rule JMF out either.

They are likely relying on Preston's injuries found in the post-mortem to go for the SA charges, with the video footage and timings when JV was alone with Preston (esp on the day he died) to charge him with SA. But they also can't really confirm that every SA was committed by JV alone, for any earlier injuries found that might have healed.

The only way they can convict JMF of SA is if they charge him for it in the first place, given he's one of the two possible suspects with unsupervised access to Preston. So it's possible CPS have charged them both on that basis.

But I do hope that - if he was indeed involved in harming Preston - they do have more solid evidence to support that and it's not just a case of trying to make circumstantial evidence stick. JV is the one having to deny there was any SA that occurred (of which the post-mortum has sadly left little reasonable doubt about) with the evidence against - JMF only needs to deny that his involvement.

If they had more solid evidence to support JMF SA Preston would they not have said it by now considering we’ve heard from the prosecution and we’re now hearing the defence version of events?

He rang the school office and pretended to be someone else but the receptionist recognised his voice and knew it was him. Perhaps they fell for his attention seeking and ran straight to his door. I think he’s a bleeping weirdo.

The way I see it is this..
The jury are likely to accept that on the day Preston was killed
- JV assaulted Preston orally which stopped him breathing and by forcible penetration that caused serious bowel injuries, abnormalities to his bum and bladder injury..

To find JMF innocent
- they’ve got to believe that on the day that Preston is photographed hanging on his neck turning blue over the cot bars, with again a very damaged mole, with semen falling from his mouth on the exact location that is then tested to show JMF sperm in a MIXED sample with Preston’s dna, that JMF was there that whole day and his sperm is there just as terrible bad luck for the clean freak. It’s just a coincidence that the evidence of this assault totally mirrors that of Preston’s death and JMF is there the whole time along with his sperm 🤢

They’ve also got to believe JMF’s account that he really did come home to find Preston still sitting up being sick when in fact he had been filmed an hour and a half before at near death not breathing for 20+ seconds at a time, gasping and grunting and that all pathology shows he had been clinically dead for some time before arrival at hospital. He did not lose consciousness just as they got in the car which is what they both claim.
Now unless JMF says he lied about that to protect JV, why else would he need to lie? Because he knows he participated in these attacks previously too and it makes it look more convincing that he had no idea Preston was being tortured all day by JV if he carries on with the fiction of the scene he arrived to when in fact Preston was dead.

I really hope you’re right, I believe he definitely is guilty and did either know or partake in that assault you’re talking about.
I just think there is, as it stands right now, some reasonable doubt for his SA charge. Maybe if he does take the stand then the cross highlights his involvement

Hard agree.

If this had been my son I would have spoken to him about out ("What the hell has happened to this baby? Why aren't you watching him properly? He shouldn't be knocking himself about on furniture like that!" and depending on the explanation (and I can't see any explanation that would explain the injuries to Preston's mole) I'd either teach him how to safely handle and protect a small child, or get in touch with the social worker. I love my son to bits, but I wouldn't let a child suffer because he was clumsy/inept/careless.

I think JV's mother may have been frightened of him, as others have already suggested.

Still no excuse.

I think this is probably the most likely scenario too regarding JV's Mum and her not flagging any concerns. But (just a theory) we don't know what sort of upbringing JV and JMF had. I'm not suggesting anything but it's just another possibility.

He did WHAT? How do you know this, and what did he say during this call?

I noticed during The Trial Podcast that JV’s mum worked at the same school. Puts his initial appointment as technician, and rapid-sounding promotion to year of year into content 👀

I’m trying to find it now. It was reported in the Manchester Evening News live report very early on in the trial.

One thing that’s stood out to me reading back over the blog is that multiple hospital staff have commented that neither man had shoes on in the hospital. JMF in his interview said he grabbed his shoes on the way out. There’s no way he could have driven to the hospital barefoot.

So did he take his shoes off in the car before getting into the hospital?

Also JV is clearly very histrionic. Not just at the hospital but also in messages to friends saying he’s suicidal etc. He seems to need to be the centre of attention at all times.
I think they went in the hospital with no shoes on to make it look like they rushed out the second they noticed something was wrong Preston, so people would notice and find that believable. They were too arrogant to think this would go to the police so now have this made up convoluted story about shoes as it wouldn’t have made sense for JMF to be taking his shoes on an off if there was an emergency but now it just doesn’t make any sense.

Remember the jury have seen some pretty horrific videos and photos. Including some that JMF was in the house at the time they were taken and admits he saw in person (Preston on the cot bars), in the bathroom at the same time as JV and Preston and some of those photos, or received some indecent ones directly from JV. On top of that a pack of lies from both of them. I will be really shocked if the jury find JMF not guilty.

Also we know now that during the cot suffocation photo evidence he had a very damaged bottom and at death he had it too.
The evidence around that abnormal anatomy is that this was a repeated occurrence.

Even without access to everything the jury are seeing and hearing, we as laypeople reading about all this seem to range from being baffled that JVs mum didn’t realise there was abuse to accusing her of covering it up for JV.. then it has to be 1000 times that suspicion or scrutiny for JMF! Living there day in day out. The jury will understand that with much more clarity.

I’m amazed at how far JMF has gone to throw Varley under the bus. It was polite annihilation.

JMF better not get off though. He’s a sick b too.

I think JMF might not take the stand. Right from the off he's adopted the "Jamie did most of the childcare, I was at work, I didn't see anything and I don't know anything about it"
If he takes the stand it'll all fall apart under cross.
