Even without everything else, surely a jury hearing about a baby suffering from ‘forcible penetration’ will only have one verdict!!!?

Also we know now that during the cot suffocation photo evidence he had a very damaged bottom and at death he had it too.
The evidence around that abnormal anatomy is that this was a repeated occurrence.

Even without access to everything the jury are seeing and hearing, we as laypeople reading about all this seem to range from being baffled that JVs mum didn’t realise there was abuse to accusing her of covering it up for JV.. then it has to be 1000 times that suspicion or scrutiny for JMF! Living there day in day out. The jury will understand that with much more clarity.
I hope there is a massive amount of support for those on the jury once this trial is over, and for the next year or so to come. Just reading about it is just harrowing, but for them to hear and see what those monsters did, is just unimaginable.I have found being with my son who is the same age as Preston was when he died, I just cant grasp how anyone could harm a child so small and innocent. Its a gorgeous age where he is learning to walk and say a few words but poor Preston never got any further than 13 months.

Going off topic a little but does anybody know why the school he worked at were doing a welfare check on JV? Was it to do with Preston or to do with the school? I don't really understand why somebody’s employer would be going to their house to check on them when they’re on paternity leave and presumably not particularly in touch with them at that time? If I went on maternity leave and was struggling during that time there’s no way my employer would come to hear of it and turn up at my house. Maybe I’ve misunderstood the purpose of the visit.
The teachers gave their evidence way back in the first week after the new jury was sworn in.
You have to scroll down for ages on the Manchester Evening News live blog or a Facebook group called Little Angels Child Murder, that was recommended on here by another poster, also has a lot of the early days of evidence, even the first week's, with the first jury.
Anyway, I found this, as to why the Head Teacher did a welfare check:

Something which this past week has crossed my mind is it being mentioned that the monsters apologised to neighbours regarding Preston crying.
God that poor poor child.
How troubled must those neighbours now be realising that it wasn't simply a baby crying due to teething, being unwell, just not tired & wanting 'out' of his cot but that he was distressed & in pain & terror because of these guys.

I don't think fellow inmates will give them a pass on this torture they put Preston through.

Found this:
Evidence presented in court indicates that it was actually Varley's partner, John McGowan-Fazakerly, who apologised to the neighbours for the baby crying. [1, 2, 3, 4]
This revelation came to light during the murder and child cruelty trial at Preston Crown Court regarding the death of 13-month-old Preston Davey (also referred to as Elijah). [1, 2]
Key details shared in court regarding this incident include:
  • The neighbour's account: Neighbour Jasmine Nuttall stated that they shared thin walls and she frequently heard "raised voices" and an "unusual amount of crying" coming from the couple's home.
  • The apology: Nuttall mentioned in a statement read to the jurors that, on one occasion when the baby was distressed, McGowan-Fazakerley knocked on her door to apologise for the noise.
  • Other details: The court also heard from the neighbour that she had overheard McGowan-Fazakerley raising his voice at the child on another occasion, saying "Stop it now" out of frustration. [1, 2]

Earlier it was asked about if the defence/JV have another pathologist. I've gone back as I was sure I'd seen they did but can only find these instances, which may of course been slightly edited since first posting.

I do think it’s possible JMF may not be found guilty of SA. The other charges are possible with the fact he was there for the elbow & the cot photos. Unfortunately, there is reasonable doubt around the SA.

What is the schedule for Tuesday, JV returns to the witness box or will his defence witnesses be up next?

Was Preston’s constant crying the “cheeky baby noises” he would make in his cot? I hope the prosecution get them to explain that.

What’s the reasonable doubt when he was there for the cot photos?

The DNA evidence isn’t clear to us right now if this was part of the SA. It shows allowing cruelty that he knew he was in that position.

Remember the jury have seen some pretty horrific videos and photos. Including some that JMF was in the house at the time they were taken and admits he saw in person (Preston on the cot bars), in the bathroom at the same time as JV and Preston and some of those photos, or received some indecent ones directly from JV. On top of that a pack of lies from both of them. I will be really shocked if the jury find JMF not guilty.
I do hope you are right.

Juries can be funny things. I'm dreading a "teeny-tiny-smidgeon-of -reasonable-doubt" verdict. But if that happens, that man will never have to stop looking over his shoulder, and sooner or later someone would make the connection and he would be toast.

I think JMF might not take the stand. Right from the off he's adopted the "Jamie did most of the childcare, I was at work, I didn't see anything and I don't know anything about it"
If he takes the stand it'll all fall apart under cross.
Agree - he isn't stupid. He's heard the evidence, seen his partner make a fool of himself, and will also see the cross-examination where doubtless JV will be taken apart piece by piece - he'll stay put, I think.

I see the evidence around that entire incident as evidence of sexual abuse, not evidence of cruelty from being laid in a poor position. I believe the mole injury photos are from the same day too. I don’t need the DNA to prove sexual abuse has occurred. I also don’t see each incident in isolation - we know that baby was being sexually abused frequently. He died from an act of SA. It fully supports the cot incident was also SA. That JMF was there for.

They moved in together August 2020 and started the adoption process December 2021. That feels quite quick and not a very well established relationship. I’d be interested to hear how that compares with the experience of parents who have adopted children on this thread.
Just catching up but they met in 2018 and moved in together very quickly but "officially" (whatever that means) in early 2019.

Exactly this. If you recognise that this series of events is exactly the same kind of abuse episode as the one that killed Preston, then you have to believe that JMF really was downstairs preparing a roast and that he really did just get called upstairs to have a funny little “what is he like” chuckle at a baby turning blue, suspended from his cot bars on his neck. Haha how we laughed 🙄
You’ve got to also believe that JV routinely abused Preston in the bath and by chance JMF and him also had perfectly innocent bath times together with Preston. Sure.

and JMF has already proved himself to be a liar on some of the worst incidents - the final day and the elbow one.

Did he really say at the start of proceedings that the adoption vetting process was very enjoyable and he’d recommend it to anyone? What planet is he on to think that’s an appropriate thing to say after what’s happened? He’s a deluded narcissist or something, I don’t even know anymore.
Most people would say it's incredibly intrusive but being a narc he loved the attention and talking about himself the whole time.

Yes if you don’t think the elbow incident happened with the “cheeky boy” bull or that the a small baby fractured his arm and then just went back to sleep with a cheeky little wink 🙄 then JMF is a liar. If you don’t believe that JMF found Preston awake and sitting up being sick when all forensic evidence corresponds with the video showing Preston dying way before that, then JMF is a liar.
Not little lies. Huge case changing lies.
