18 weeks, think I can feel movements. It's hard to describe. Closest I've got is it feels like the sensation when you wiggle your toes and they're a bit crampy and stiff but in baby region?
Yeah, whatever you think are movements probably are! It becomes more obvious as the time goes on, but it is still early so don’t get too worried about it right now. When I went to my 20 week scan I wasn’t sure if I was feeling movements or not and was reassured by the nicest sonographer in the world. By my 24 week appointment I was a lot more confident that it was movement I could feel!

Went back for a rescan at the private place but SmallDragBaby is just not interested in doing anything other than lying with his arms and legs around his head, which conceals a lot of his face. We got some more glimpses, saw some little chubby cheeks (on his face! Haha). When the scanner was in the usual ‘ultrasound’ mode the sonographer pointed out she could see his hair which absolutely creased me!

I don’t mind that he hates a photo, I just hope he unfolds himself before he is born and I don’t end up with a taco shell for a child, I’m beginning to worry… 🤣

Ahaha newborns are sooo scrunchy in the cutest possible way 🥹 I can’t wait for the newborn snuggles this time when they’re all folded up. They do unfold eventually I promise 🤣

We called the scrunch position with our first little one "turtle time" 😭 excuse me whilst I sob. He just to lie on our chests all scrunched up like he was inside his shell. Cannot wait to hopefully experience turtle time again.

Mine constantly misbehaved at scans. Pulling on the umbilical cord so the image kept blurring, having his hands over his face at all times, Kicking the scanner thing away, refusing to unclench his hands so they could count his fingers, you name it, he did it.

Does anyone have any good tips for colostrum harvesting. Have been trying for a few days now but am getting nowhere!

I’m excited for scrunchy, but mine is literally folded in half 🤣. I saw lots of the backs of his shins, he’s very proud of his legs indeed. The final attempt to get him to move MrDragName is going ‘yeah I feel really positive about this this time’ as I’m jiggling like a twit and pushing my belly about standing up in the room. I get back on the bed and he is folded up even more tightly than before 🤣 he’s a silly wee lad.

I’m interested to hear experiences too. I haven’t started yet (35 weeks right now)
My midwife said sit in the bath, relax and massage your nipple making a c shape with your fingers

I never managed it at home, don’t feel disheartened if you don’t. In the hospital I was getting like 0.001 ml and it was so rit. Apparently the baby can get more out when they feed, but my baby could never latch properly. Worth trying but don’t stress over it!

I was feeling disheartened yesterday, it's just a bit of a frustrating experience. I've tried after a bath etc and a couple of different techniques. I've heard experiences of people say they didn't manage to get colostrum before but were still able to breast feed ok once baby was born. Am trying not to put too much pressure on myself with the whole thing.

If it helps I reckon 90% of my collected colostrum never got used 🙃🙃🙃🙃 if you breastfeed baby will just get it directly from you rather than a syringe is all 🥰

I didn’t collect colostrum before birth and I managed to breastfeed. My milk didn’t come in until 2 days after I gave birth. You honestly just can’t predict things. It wasn’t “easy” for me - there was a tongue tie and my post partum boobs were so ridiculously huge it was hard to get into positions but baby was still breast fed and thrived. After you give birth your hormones are going to be all over the place. The important thing is to try and remember that if breast feeding comes easily to other people it’s not because they were destined to be mums and better at being one than you - it’s just luck. That’s something I really struggled with XXX

Sorry just to add - I think I only know of one person who collected beforehand. Every one else I know didn’t and the majority breast fed. I even still had milk in my breasts 6 months after I stopped BF.

Thank you for your replies. We did an NCT antenatal course a few weeks ago and the woman who did the feeding session was a bit of a Mrs Trunchball and was very much if breastfeeding doesn't work for you then it's because your doing something wrong without saying those specific words, complaints were put in after! I hated that mentality!
I know that it doesn't always work out and there can be so many different factors which can impact, also it's personal choice as well how individuals choose to feed their babies!
Anyway I am rambling now so probably not saying it well! I am trying to keep an open mind on it all, I am just hot, tired and hormonal I think 🤣

NCT are bleeping brutal about breast feeding and also “natural births” - take it all with a pinch of salt. Unfortunately it’s also rife in the NHS and all the midwives could advise me to do was just to keep trying. Just definitely make your own decisions and remember your mental and physical health is as important as the baby’s!

Yeah I definitely will, the lady we had for the rest of the course was a bit more open minded on everything and seemed to cover everything better!
The breastfeeding one was brutal though, she stepped in last minute to cover, I wish she hadn't!

Honestly don't stress about it. Baby will get it out just fine. Also how much you can get out has no reflection on how your milk will be. I had no luck with colostrum but I could open a dairy with my milk supply. Fountain bits.

Same for pumping once they’re here. Can’t pump for the life of me but managed to exclusively feed one and, through choice, combi feed another.

Breast feeding can be very, very hard to establish. It does take perseverance but try not to let it take over your newborn bubble if you do struggle and the struggle becomes too much. A happy mum is more important for baby than how they’re fed.
