Has anyone had a cervical scan to check length? I'm 18 weeks and have one tomorrow. I didn't have one in my 1st pregnancy so not really sure what to expect so if anyone has had one, do you mind summarising it for me please? Like, how long do they take? Do you see the results yourself on the screen or do they tell you there and then or after? Thanks!

I have due to a previous LLETZ procedure. For me it was an internal ultrasound. If you’ve never had one it’s like a wand that goes up your tina. Not remotely painful or uncomfortable so don’t worry. Only took a few minutes. The ultrasound lady took all of the measurements and then I took the paperwork to the consultant in the hospital immediately after the appointment to check they were happy. For me all was fine but I have a friend who required a stitch in her cervix due to the short length and risk of early birth

I’m really pleased to live in a part of the UK that is warm but not heatwave stupid right now. It was bad enough being large in a heatwave 🤣🤣🤣

ooh good luck! I have mine on Monday (40+1). I also had 3 sweeps first time round and ended up being induced at 42 weeks. Hoping it’s true that it’s more successful second time!
So much more successful today- my first time they couldn’t even reach the cervix 😂 today she felt baby’s head (she could feel hair!!) managed a good successful sweep and I’m about 1-2cm dilated, she could feel the waters bulging! So we shall see! She’s recommended all the old wives tales haha, spicy food being a main one 😂 and staying upright and active, not the easiest in 29 degree heat but I’m just doing lengths of the garden!

I have had one this pregnancy! Literally takes less than 5 mins, they do have to insert it into your tina so be prepared for that. They measure it in front of you, you can see it all on the screen so I knew straight away mine was fine as they want it longer than 25mm. The consultant will still follow up with you after in some way but you’ll know before seeing them if your result is ‘good’ 🥰

This Husband redundancy thing is really hitting me so hard. I've got the lovely post partum hormones running through me anyway and I'm trying to keep it together for him and the baby but secretly I just keep crying every day. I'm so worried about the future.

Had one too, it's ultrasound and it's very quick. In the report it will say how "long" is it (it's the thickness of your cervix). If it's short, they could give you progesterone. I think the ideal length is over 300 mm,but don't quote on it

@ahtisyourself if it's only a nasal thing, steroid nasal spray can also be prescribed.

I think being worried is natural. Your local CAB might be able to run through some benefits options with you, it’s amazing what exists out there that we just have no idea about. I hope it doesn’t come to that and he secures something else but maybe it’ll help you to feel a tiny bit more settled? Most CABs can help by phone/email, even webchat so no need to schlep in somewhere.

Got a wax this afternoon (including a Hollywood) and when I got up to get dressed there was blood on the couch roll. Obviously I made that safe for my waxer and everything, paid and ran home in a panic that something was wrong with the baby.

Had basically figured out I wasn’t bleeding from internally but couldn’t be sure so poor MrDragName had to, errr, check my flaps and discovered a bit of skin had come off, which is likely where the bleeding had come from. It was either he did it or I’d have to explain myself to maternity triage I guess and I figured that would be a serious waste of their time. He asked me if he should take a picture to show me 🤣 I said I believed him.

Excellent. I am not mortified at all.

If TikTok is to be believed, it seems like the growth scans are routinely wrong, or at least they can’t accurately predict how big the bubba is going to be when it is time to deliver, in most cases. I’m dreading having my bump measured because I was large anyway and they never measured how much of me there was before the baby came along, and also dreading the growth scans I’ve been asked to have because it seems designed to terrify you one way or the other and not often for a good reason!

Not at all. They can often be out by quite a bit. At my 35 weeks scan they said he was 6lbs 8oz and I could expect a 9lbs+ baby but he was well under 8lbs.

I do feel the fact they use a paper tape measure is just giving room for error and then they said the measurements on the scan can be out

I was panicking she was too small and now too big 🫣😭

Sorry for the silence! My baby boy was born on Wednesday afternoon, after a failed induction led to a c section ☺ not how I planned it, but things don’t always go to plan! I am in newborn heaven right now, it’s tough work but the cuddles make everything so so worth it ❤

Baby weighed 9.3lbs at birth so maybe it’s a good thing I had a c section in the end! 🫣 he was measuring 8.6lbs on his 36 week scan, so I’d say it was roughly accurate!

thank you ladies for all the incredible advice and company you have given me over the last 9 months…I might hang out here for a while because I just love all things pregnancy 😆❤

Thank you so much ❤ not yet! They kept us in for a bit to monitor our sugars because of my GD, and then little one was having feeding difficulties, they checked my bloods to see if I needed a transfusion, did his NIPE examination, Newborn hearing test, I was reviewed by the obstetrics team etc etc, so that dragged things out…

I’m hoping to go home today though, it’s our 5th day in hospital and I need a good wash 🤣

Lost my mucus plus this morning (39+6). Never happened in my first pregnancy where I got to 42 weeks with nothing. How long did it take people to go into labour after losing it?! Kind of hoping I get through the heat wave first as I don’t fancy being in a boiling hospital giving birth!

Came to have the second look at the travel system and bedside crib and there was some sort of offer or price match on where we got both for what we thought the price of the travel system alone would be. Still murderously expensive but marginally less murderously expensive than we thought. Now at a shopping centre in a big city on a Saturday afternoon looking at some other smaller baby items and wishing I could be at home with my feet up!
