@ThisIsMyDragName I'm sure it was you who mentioned your Mister had a "so you're gonna be a dad" book? (If it's any good) What's the title of it?
That’s me! I think it is actually called ‘so, you’re going to be a Dad’ and he got it off Amazon. He does seem able to tell me about what is happening to me week to week, today he announced I should start taking iron tablets 🤣. But all joking aside, I think it’s helped demystify pregnancy for him, so we’d recommend!

Question- we’re looking at the bedside cribs that attach to the bed but they seem to be suitable up to 6 months (presumably depending on the baby’s size and the crib size etc). What should I be looking for after that? I’m seeing that the baby is ideally in the same room as you for the first year. Am I just looking for a standard cot to be in our room, just not attached to the bed? We’re blessed with enough space for pretty much anything to go in the room. Thanks!

Yes standard cot after that in your room for however long you want!

A lot of cots also convert into toddler/kids beds etc too, so cost effective if you wanted to get matching nursery furniture etc x

(I’m not at that stage yet baby is only 4.5 months, but I will just mention a lot of the ladies on the new baby thread have moved their little ones into their own rooms at 6m as per the lullaby trust guidelines - babies are LOUD overnight snuffing and snorting 😂 - and I think ill be following suit)

Thank you, this is all super helpful! I’m probably not going to bother with nursery furniture and go straight to real furniture but obviously will get a cot, and definitely one that will convert as well!

Thanks for the 6 month info! The baby’s room will be next to ours so it’s not like he’d be far away. I had been thinking about the eufy sock and camera but they don’t seem to be selling it in the UK anymore which is weird. I like eufy as there are no subscriptions to pay for. Maybe I could leave the baby with my husband and move to the other room myself, leave them both snoring away together 🤣🤣🤣

I’d be mindful of the ones that attach if you end up having a C-section as you then can’t get out of the side of the bed. We’ve gone for the chico next to me as it can do both

They advise that they can go in their own room after 6 months and would then need a cot / bed. You can get them so they are a cot then it turns into a bed until they are around 4

The ones we’ve looked at can all do both - attach to the bed or be nearby, but hadn’t considered the effects of a c-section on these things so thank you!

I didn’t either till my friend reminded me she had to shuffle to the end of the bed 😂

We’ve booked a free antenatal class with ‘the honest midwife’ after hearing some great things as I feel very clueless 🫣

My husband bought this book. It’s a good read and he’ll tell me bits and bobs when he reads it before bed. I already know most of it but I pretend it’s super interesting and I’ve never heard about pregnancy before 🤣 there’s a good bit about what to buy in prep for a newborn like the number of nappies, baby grows etc
I love that he’s getting ready and keen to cover all bases as a new dad.
It’s very sweet 💓

Scotland gives you a book but it’s mostly about pregnancy and birth, though there is a section at the end which is post birth stuff. I should dig it back out really! I felt really clueless at the pram shopping place when I couldn’t manage to intuitively figure out how the travel systems or cribs worked. This did lead to a small flail of ‘I probably can’t be a parent’ which was a reach, gotta love those hormones! Turns out we’d started with the least intuitive of the travel systems which was ‘easy when you know how’ but most of the buttons were hidden whereas some of the others they were more obvious.

I ended up having a c section with my first and we had the Snuz pod which was great as it could do both! Also for the first 4ish weeks baby slept my husbands side of the bed anyway so he could lift baby out and pass to me if needed.

Although initially we ended up putting the Moses basket in the snuzpod anyway at night time as he slept better in the smaller space for the first few weeks!

Would people recommend getting a Moses basket as well as a bed side crib?
I know the bedside crib can be carried around the house but I’m thinking it would be easier to just keep that upstairs and have a Moses basket in the living room?
Or can baby sleep in the pram? I’ve got an Egg pram and I’ve seen they sell frames to use to stand the pram carry cot seat on to use as a Moses basket effectively.
Would appreciate your thoughts! X

Yes I absolutely would. They’re not expensive and are very portable so great for going from room to room downstairs. As said unthread, we also put our Moses basket inside the next to me for the first couple of months as baby couldn’t settle in the next to me as it was too big for them and Moses basket was cozier. Mad then when baby was six months and seemed massive in the Next to Me 🤣

I think it depends on the pram. Most are marked as safe for occasional overnight use/day time naps. We had an Egg 2 and it didn’t have the stand thing we just used the pram chassis and bassinet for naps sometimes. But tbh found the Moses basket to be better but I guess it does depend on baby.

Used the bassinet of the biggy and got a cheap stand thing on Amazon that rocked. Worked perfectly and great so we weren't moving it upstairs every night... I don't like having a lot of stuff and bits and pieces so less was more for me!
I also used the bassinet for the first few weeks inside the next to me as he was too small . Completely personal preference at the end of the day!

We had a next to me cot in the bedroom and a Moses basket for downstairs. By the time baby outgrew the Moses basket we were doing naps in the bedroom anyway

I’ve got a Moses basket & stand for downstairs and a sleepyhead (I know these are controversial) and then the next to me upstairs

Facebook marketplace always has a a lot of Moses baskets and you can buy new sheets /covers / mattress etc

The Snuzpod’s 4 and 5 are two of the few bedside ones that can be adjusted high enough for our ridiculously high bed. I didn’t like the position of the metal bar on the Snuzpod 4 though, it would sort of be in the way of trying to get Junior out, I’d end up knocking some part of him or me against the bar scooping him out in the wee small hours! On the 5 the zip down side basically drapes over that bar which makes it seem more easily accessible. But there is some Baby Elegance electric bedside crib that looks like it might be high enough as well, so we’ll need to go check that out at some point too! What a weird new world for us!

Has anyone tried the Babyloo You&Me crib? It’s ridiculously cheap on Smyths and weirdly it’s the cheap price that’s throwing me off 😆 I like that you can see through it and that it looks breathable.. but am almost suspicious of the cheap cost and think there must be something wrong with it to be that decent!

I’ve got a bedside crib (the mamas and papas lua next to me) for upstairs and a bassinet thing with legs for downstairs in the living room. My cousin also recommended the “Najell sleep carrier” (attached pic), because you can transport baby from room to room, and it’s also safe for sleep, if they fall asleep in it. So I’ve added it to my registry

A family member bought me the oat beige colour but they do so many lovely colours!

I really want one of those sleep carriers, just don’t know if I can justify it lmao
