So for the vaping, my sister was a smoker when she was pregnant and at her 12 week appointment she had to see a specialist nurse (can't remember what her actual title was) who basically had a chat with her about the risks to baby and how important it was to quit, she was trying to anyway but that gave her the kick. She suggested vaping as alternative as they see it as the better option out of the two, obviously neither is the best but they do see vaping as the better option.

This is what I read as well. Thing is, I’ve not smoked for years and whilst I do occasionally think a cigarette would be nice, I don’t think after all these years I’m a risk of lighting up, especially while pregnant/in the close company of my future child. So I sort of feel like I should be ‘over’ the vaping. Nicotine I think is associated with low birth weight or something so they’d prefer you weren’t ingesting it, but it’s all about the harm minimisation. I’ve now knocked the nicotine on the head and can’t say I’ve noticed a difference, I just need to knock the hand-to-mouth habit and I’m free!

Yeah I think they prefer if you are to do anything then to vape. My midwife mentioned this at my booking appointment as well!

I had to give in and use Sudafed nasal spray for 4 nights - just a small spray in each nostril before bed because I hadn’t slept for 4 nights due to the horrific congestion. I tried everything. So now I’m freaking out that I’ve caused birth defects on little pea. I’ve given up everything else caffeine, alcohol shellfish, raw fish etc etc. I’m just really anxious about and feel horrible but I just needed to sleep.

I honestly doubt it will have caused any harm ❤ not sleeping and being burned out is probably the more dangerous thing! All day, every day, maybe the Sudafed would do harm but as much as you used it? Will probably be fine. Obviously I’m not a doctor but I’m increasingly realising that because it’s unethical to test things on pregnant women, the line is basically ‘don’t eat anything, don’t take any medication, don’t drink anything except water but make sure it’s perfect water’ and so on forever.

Hi, I’ve recently found out I’m pregnant again and I’m terrified as all previous pregnancies have ended in loss. I’ve been testing daily like a maniac as my last pregnancy ended in a blighted ovum and I had slow progressing lines which I think was an early indication of things being wrong.

I’m scared it’s happening again. I’m 24 or 25 dpo and my tests are STILL not quite as dark as control line (using Wondfo), and just don’t seem to have changed the past few days.

If anyone else is a serial tester, then I’d be really grateful to see any progression pics for a successful pregnancy. I have an early scan on Saturday when I’ll be 6w1 so I guess all will be revealed then, but I’m desperate for some hope in the meantime 😔
Line progression won’t tell you anything at all. Unless your body sadly let the pregnancy go which you’d know about, you can still have positive tests and progression even if the worst happened. While your body is pregnant it’ll produce hgc and it wouldn’t clear for some time. All that testing will do is stress you out and make you panicky if it goes up and down which isn’t good for you. The best thing you can do is your early scan, that’s the only way to know.

@ThisIsMyDragName anything that was inherently bad because of what it contained I avoided. Anything that had a risk of causing food poisoning I approached with caution . I’ve never been sick from sushi so I ate it but I avoided too much tuna for the mercury.

Re: vaping - It’s unclear if nicotine alone can harm a baby in the womb but don’t keep it from the midwife if you smoke/vape as you’ll probably be on the smokers pathway and need more growth scans and monitoring. I’ve heard good things about the current NHS quit smoking and vaping course which is currently free (in my area at least)

Was meant to have my pre op, growth scan and consaultant appointment tomorrow (Monday) but I think some selfish a has given us Covid so I’m going to have to call and try rebook everything. :(
Which could maybe delay csection date too?
I’m fuming.

I feel like pure rit and had finally got to sleep but then woke up an hour ago and pissed myself I guess. 😂 I thought oh tit that it was my waters at first but pretty sure it’s just piss, glamorous 😭 been tossing and turning for the last hour trying to get back to sleep but between all of the rotten symptoms it’s feeling near impossible 😭

I’ve been really looking forward to this scan for reassurance mostly, like I’m sure baby is absolutely fine, movements have been fine but I just have paranoid niggles now and again because of his 2 vessel cord and just wanted to hear that everything looked ok 😭

Hi everyone hope I will be welcome here. Just found out I’m pregnant with baby number 4. I was on the pill, and three weeks ago when I stopped for my break I had a bleed as normal. Two weeks ago I had really bad flu and took tit loads of ibuprofen and co codamol as had fever and felt like pure tit. I’ve since started taking cabergoline (started at the weekend finished dosage now) which is a prolactin suppressant as am trying to wean my boob obsessed 2 year old. Today I had cramping and as I’ve been pregnant before I can just tell when it is early pregnancy cramping so just to rule it out I took a test and too my disbelief it was positive. I am in complete shock as was not planned but also am terrified I’ve done some damage to the baby as was on the pill and taking the other drugs all whilst I’ve been pregnant and didn’t know. Can anyone explain the bleed what the hell was that about if I was pregnant? Never got pregnant on the pill before so I’m just in so much shock. Thanks everyone if you got this far

I think it could be implantation bleeding which is perfectly normal

My second 20 week scan went well today. Baby was not moving much again but thankfully after a walk they were able to finish off. Thankfully they did because if not I would've had to go for another scan with a consultant. We saw babies face for the first time and that was amazing.
But we've had a shock and the gender was opposite to what our private 16w scan said! I'm still in shock over it 🤣

This happened to my sister. She was told she was having a boy and then at her next scan baby was confirmed as a girl.

I am 29 weeks so not ready to have my appointment about opting for a C-section yet but just wondered do they book the C-section for the date I was given for my EDD?

depends on the reasons for the section, and I assume other factors eg staffing in your trust. You likely won’t get a date straight away - I think I got my date about 4 weeks before, and it was schedules for 4 days before my EDD.

Hi all,

I'm new to this thread and am currently nearly 10 weeks. I apologise in advance for how long this'll probably be, and I'm not sure there's any real advice I can be given but I'm a first time mum, unplanned, and I've struggled with anxiety for a long time, I am also autistic.

I'm finding the day to day with my mental health really hard, I've been referred to a specialist midwife team but no contact yet, I've also been referred to a perinatal mental health team but again, not much contact yet. So far, I have been incredibly anxious around food and hygiene (toxoplasmosis and listeria), especially as I live with family and don't necessarily "control" a lot of my environment. I recently tested negative for toxoplasmosis but it's an ongoing worry - I wash my hands to the point of them cracking daily. I don't eat leftovers, in case they haven't been refrigerated or heated up again properly, I also won't eat anything even slightly past its use by date. I even feel anxious about plates that I've put down on the side, in case someone has had raw meat or unwashed vegetables on the side recently.

I'm also incredibly anxious about my upcoming 12 week screening and scan. I work for a disability charity, so potential issues are always at the forefront of my mind; I speak with people struggling to cope very frequently.

Not so prevalent, but still there, are worries about giving birth (tearing etc) and potential a c-section, as I believe I'm considered quite high risk because I am older, overweight and pre-diabetic.

I then have worries about my living situation (family members not keen on the idea of me being here with a baby and my partner lives far away, we were saving to buy a place together) and work, it just all feels overwhelming and never-ending...

The ‘pee’ in the night wasn’t actually pee but blood. I didn’t even notice until I checked the clothes I discarded to the floor in the middle of the night when getting ready to leave for the hospital to have the bleeding I woke up to checked out

They said they couldn’t see any active bleeding when examining me and other than lots of tightenings they were happy with baby. Keeping me in for 24 hours (unless bleeding properly starts again then a further 24hours) but it’s not fully stopped yet. They couldn’t test to check none of it was any of my waters because of blood? So that has me a little uneasy.

They got me to attend my pre op, growth scan and consaultant appointments as normal and I felt so bad for everyone around me sitting in the waiting area while I was coughing, sneezing and feeling like absolute tit 😭

I’m not sure if it’s because I’m unwell or if I just lucked out but they’ve put me in a private room for the night instead of the bays so I can’t complain at that!
They did keep me from having to have anything to eat all day til around 6pm when someone finally told me it was okay - good practice for my Csection Monday I guess 😬

Have you spoken to your Dr as well? She or he may be able to refer you to additional support as well. In my Trust, pregnant women get to jump the queue for “normal” support. I found the MH midwife a bit slow,
no doubt as she has a massive list, but if you get in touch they might be able to speed things up.

Does your work give you any access to counselling through an employer assistance programme? It’s usually only 6 sessions or so but it might just help you go through some techniques to help you in the short term whilst the MH midwife and other MH teams get in touch.

We are happy but it was a suprise! Our's was the opposite - nothing at 16 week but very very obvious boy bits today at 21w 🤣 We already have a teenage boy so at least we know what to do with them!
