I’ve noticed more women are declining IOL’s at my trust, mostly ones who are being recommended them for ‘big’ babies etc.
Saying that, you should see the IOL list, it’s still pages and pages long. Most waiting for ARM’s. And with the full moon tomorrow, well the ward will be a little bit bonkers I imagine.

I do think they have their place, and are definitely needed in some circumstances, but it can be a very lengthy process.

I was so excited to go pram shopping today, but it was such a let down. Most were so out of our budget and the ones that we could afford couldn't fit in the car. We have a small car and just couldn't fit the smallest pram in.

And we just saw people walking around buying these expensive travel systems and it just made me feel a bit flat. We think we've found one that will work online, but i just feel a bit meh after the whole thing.
Treat pram shopping as a window shop, try out everything and note what you like about it. Then as others have said keep an eye on local nearly new sales and marketplace. People fork out a fortune and realise how much they hate them!

Little plonk is almost 2 weeks old and I’d definitely say my £10 Vinted bargain of the ergo baby aura wrap has been invaluable whilst trying to navigate life with a 3 year old too, dreading the other half going back to work next week, cried about 50 times already 🥲

Omg this is beautiful 🩷🩷🩷 Born at home and delivered by Daddy made me emotional. Congratulations to you all 🩷🩷🩷
It was perfect - our second was born at home and delivered by by husband too, although that time it was comple unplanned! It was definitely a much calmer affair when we were expecting it to happen!

Just got home from my (failed 😂) glucose tolerance test. The drink was actually not as bad as I was expecting, but I was still sick about half an hour before the time was up. I've now been given a 5-day home blood testing kit. I'm such a nerd that I'm actually quite excited to see my readings.

That's really weird! I'm sorry that happened to you. Did everyone know you are pregnant? Or was the whole thing a big shock? I have a cousin who has ignored me since my kid was born as they can't cope. Maybe your guests were uncomfortable about "talking baby stuff" with you? So didn't know what to say? Maybe you should ask someone you trust if you were being ignored, or is it just your expectations and hormones? Was everyone quieter than normal?
Thank you. Yeah everyone knew I was pregnant for ages and happy for me. They haven’t got a problem talking about baby stuff as most of them are parents or are older.
Just felt like people didn’t really talk to me, I’m trying not to dwell on it and just want to move on from it now rather than bring it up to people as can’t change it now.

We found out privately at 17 weeks and then backed up what they’d said at the 20 week scan. I didn’t want to buy anything before that in case I jinxed it but also wanted to buy some cute girlie things as well as neutrals. I could never go through without knowing, I’m too much of a control freak!
Yeah that's me, I need to be in control 🤣 the thought of a surprise fills me with chaos. I have bought a couple of neutral things but nothing much. I'm the same girl clothes are beautiful and I just want to know if I can buy them or not. I would actually really like a boy but girls clothes are so much better 🤦

Can I check with previous new mamas - I’ve been warned to get a) tons and tons of maternity pads as you can expect to bleed so much in the days following (obviously I expect this but how much do you actually get)? I was also warned off buying the Tena incontinence knickers as they can create a more damp environment for healing wounds and

b) told to get dark coloured sheets and some kind of mattress protector or puppy training pads for the days after birth. How many people actually needed those things?
I’ve bought disposable knickers and 2 boxes of super thick cushioned maternity pads and then 3 packs of 0-3 weeks post birth pads to start off and then I’ll order/get more of which ever I find I prefer! So still the same sort of thing as incontinence pants I guess but the disposable knickers seem quite breathable!

I’ve also bought incontinence pads off amazon to use to protect the mattress/to sit on if my waters go at home/to use as disposable changing mats!

Is it normal at only 15 weeks to basically feel dead once it's 2pm 🤣 I literally feel like I can't function, my whole body just shuts down to the point I can't even be bothered to walk 🤣 I have a long way to go and I am concerned I will basically be bed bound by the time I am 24 weeks 🤣
Any tips on finding some energy?

Hi ladies who are further on than me (😂) when in your pregnancy did you do everything like build bassinets/prams, have hospital bag ready for etc?
I’m only 26 weeks but both my mum and my MIL got caught out by baby’s coming at 30 weeks and think I should start having it all sorted.
I have mostly all I need now but tbh - I’m kind of scared and nervous to set it all up as it’s making it feel real 😬
Obviously I hope she stays in there cooking for another 10+ weeks at least but now I’m scared I’m not prepared enough 😫
Honestly just do it when you’re ready! I had my bag packed at 32 weeks, nursery has been sorted since about 28 weeks. We are hoping to pick the pram and car seat this week and I’m 35 weeks! No harm in being prepared 🤍
---
I've probably left things fairly late.

I'm 34 weeks this week. Pram was bought a couple of weeks ago and built this weekend. I have yet to sort out my hospital bag but have most of it prepped. Plan on finalising it this week and weekend.

We haven't yet put the next to me cot together nor have I washed the bedding. Hope to do that this week and weekend too.
I’m waiting for husband to build next to me and my sheets are on their way!

Trigger warning: abortion

Me and my partner have been discussing me coming off the pill and trying for our first baby together. I’m 29 and have been on the pill (rigevidon) for probably over 10 years now. I did get pregnant when I was 16 (mistake with first boyfriend) and we decided to terminate the pregnancy as I was still at school and we both weren’t ready. Is there anything set in stone how to quickly I can get pregnant coming off the pill? Will my body take a long time to go back to normal after being on the pill for so long? My period is very regular I always take it on my week break from the pill.
Just as a different view point, because everyone commenting so far got pregnant really quickly after coming off the pill - I came off the pill in March 2023 and am currently only 6 weeks pregnant

I keep being told how busy September is on the unit, I’m actually wondering if they’re insisting inductions so they can actually space out births for shift management. I know a few others that were due after me and have already been and gone with inductions.
I’m a week over due now and seriously fed up so will be looking for induction toward the end of the week if I have no movement (pray for me I do) but I feel that’s for safety opposed to anything else!
There’s definitely two factors - NHS busy periods such as September/October and also their being risk averse so any sign of a bigger baby or any health complications at all, induction is clearly recommended. This article is from Australia but obviously similarities to the UK:

Yes, so i got the Asda maternity pads which are really cushioned (so good for stitches) and then I got the Tesco ones after a few days because these are slimmer and overall I preferred them. I think I used at least 3 packs of maternity pads. Tbh it felt like I bled forever, it was at least two weeks (but when I had my c-section it didn’t feel as long - I may be miss-remembering though).

never heard of using tena incontinence pads - I’m a bit of one for using the right product for the issue though.

and yes, I got the disposable bed mats, we still use them for no nappy time, sickness bugs etc and use them during night time potty training so they are handy to have around. I would just buy a pack of them (I got mine from Amazon) and see how you go. I used to use them as disposable changing mats as well. When my waters broke I just used one for sitting on at home and also in the car to the hospital. When you’re at hospital they give you some from there.

Invest in a waterproof mattress protector - get at least two for now and ever more with small children about - better safe than sorry.

I got maternity pads but then switched to some type of thick period pads from Tesco that cost about 80p for a pack vs branded maternity ones. I bled quite heavily for a week or two then it tailed off after 6 weeks. I don't remember leaking in bed because I was up every 2 hours to feed, so you can keep an eye on it. I also remember (TMI🤣) having a wee and thinking I was done but weirdly, I could hear wee trickling out 😳 stay sat down longer than you think! I have read that it burns to wee, but I never experienced that and I was stitched up to shit

Midwives were absolutely lovely. Got a scan tomorrow morning at EPU. They think I'm fine but want to err on side of caution as they said due to some risk factors I'm at higher risk of miscarriage.
Keep us updated and fingers crossed everything is all okay xx

What? Another car?! Hope you are okay!! 💕
Thank you! We’re both okay luckily. I was turning in the road and was halfway across when the other car decided to set off at 15-20mph and slammed into my front passenger side. Luckily it wasn’t too bad of a crash, my front bumper is a mess but they monitored babies heartbeat for 20 minutes and it met all the criteria and I can feel movements now at her regular time ❤

I feel bad because it was a coworkers boyfriend who hit me and he was very apologetic but I didn’t want to speak to him at all, the stress of these situation was awful and I think the only reason they let me go to triage was because I was crying on the phone 😂 we rang and pushed the number for the ‘emergency triage’ at first and the lady on the phone said ‘we’ll you’ve rang emergency and it’s not an emergency really is it’

my boyfriend nearly snapped at her over the phone 😂 if they don’t consider a car accident an emergency while pregnant what do they class as one haha
