A bbhug me pregnancy pillow. You will not regret it 😂
I didn’t have mine last night (working away at 35 weeks preggo, buzzing) and I had a horrendous sleep 🙄🙄🙄 can’t wait to snuggle it tonight 🤣

@Laughalong if we weren’t having a baby we’d have got a little friend for our dog, he’s not that keen on other dogs unless he knows them really well but I think he’s gonna be even LESS keen on a baby 🤣🤣

Thank you so much everyone! 🥹🩷🩷

PS I’m sending lots of love to everyone suffering in this heat today - Shein do great rechargeable hand held fans for £2 or so which is great for when you’re forced to leave the house and go somewhere without air con!

That’s my biggest fear, I don’t think my dog is going to be child friendly. I got him from a rescue and had been with kids and was surrendered as he wasn’t great with them. He’s going to my aunt for a few weeks when baby gets here but not sure about how it will go when we bring him home..

Yeah if I wasn’t pregnant now we’d have got a second cockapoo. He’s so playful and loving of all dogs and people. My only fear of him and the baby is attention being taken away from him, and how he will adjust to that. I don’t know if he will resent the baby. Do dogs even feel resent? I don’t know 😂 I’m very dramatic about this. He’s been my priority for two years now. The bed in the spare room was HIS bed, he napped and slept there overnight. Now the bed is gone and there’s a cot in there. So he’s had his room taken off him already. He’s also very affectionate and will kiss on repeat ALL day if you let him, and I don’t think a newborn baby wants to be licked a million times, so he needs to learn more boundaries.

(Idk if anyone cares for dog pics, sorry to de-rail. As you can see I really do post like he’s my actual baby!)

You can't know until you know but with maturity and knowing he's secure in his environment he might be much better. Who knows if the kids weren't pulling his tail and bopping his head when the adults weren't looking, you see some horrendous treatment from kids and the adults think it's funny or can't read the dog's warnings. Plus you have the benefit or foresight so you can do the things like introducing baby's smell, letting the dog 'find' the baby, really understanding his behaviour and triggers. They feed off you I think and you're obviously doing what you can for a smooth transition so you'll have the best chances 🥰

@Laughalong My dog was my first baby for 11 years before human baby came along. She was my life, she came to work with me, came to the pub with me, my little shadow. I felt horrendous guilt but she adapted really well, like it was our baby and she was there for her too.
She'd make baby laugh so much, even when tiny baby adored her and sometimes dog was ambivalent but mostly she was happy to be involved or actively wanted to snuggle baby and I, it was adorable.

I am terrified of how my boy will react to the new baby, he is glued to me. And 100% believes he is the current baby (I am absolutely not to blame 🤥)
I worry how he’ll even be while I’m in the hospital. He only ever wants to be with me & gets very upset when I’m not there. I had to pull him from doggy daycare as he worked himself up so much he started losing his hair.
He’s also gotten very reactive since I got pregnant and I brought him to the vet as was very out of sorts for him & she said he would know I’m pregnant and is “protecting me”.

Awww we have a daxi too 💖💖 they are such sweetie pies. Mine seems oblivious to me being pregnant and continuously launches himself onto my stomach and boobs. I treat him like my child as well, not sure how it’ll all go down. If he’s really bad you can get anti-anxiety meds for them which seems extreme but might benefit him.

Interesting your vet says he knows you’re pregnant. I did a lot of googling around that! He’s become a lot more affectionate since I’ve been pregnant, but also more testing at times as well. It truly is like he knew something had changed. Apparently you smell different 😂. He’s always kissed endlessly but never cuddled at all really, now he comes for lots of them.

And @littlepup thank you for sharing that!!! You’ve truly described what I want to happen with my dog and the baby, I hope he sees them as an extension of me and loves them

Oh my god he's adorable! Definitely need pup and baby pics. I spend far too long watching videos on social media of babies growing up with pet dogs and they make me cry every damn time.

when we came home from the hospital after having baby and being in a few days my husband cried when we introduced our pup to the baby because he’d missed him so much haha. They really are the first baby really aren’t they 🐶🩷

People keep telling me our dog is going to be pushed out or won’t be our priority anymore 😭 obviously things will change but he’s our baby, we got him after a MC so there’s an emotional attachment and I would never want him to feel pushed out 💔

He def knows I’m pregnant, he’s been really clingy since literally 6 weeks but now he’s ramped up, follows me room to room and goes mental barking at other dogs when we’re out walking 😂

He’s really soft though (and tiny) so I’ve no concerns about him around the baby, but will be managing the introduction process and teaching the baby when he’s a bit older to respect the dog.

In addition to what our @littlepup said, I read about playing baby sounds on Alexa (or equivalent) can be helpful in terms of preparing them. Bit like desensitising them to fireworks. And putting the baby equipment out early so they get used to the new objects in their home!

Are you still going to see the dog in those weeks? Might be a big change for him to go elsewhere then come back to a baby.

We have a Newfoundland who we’ve had some aggression issues with in the past, so have always been worried about her being around my toddler and now a new baby. We even thought about rehoming her, but she’s old now and don’t imagine she has much long left in her so we couldn’t do it. She’s absolutely fine with my toddler, I think we are more paranoid than anything but just always cautious when he plays near her, he doesn’t understand that she’s old and doesn’t want to be jumped on but she’s always been completely fine and gentle with him.

I had my midwife appointment today and mine and babies pulse was high, was sent to triage and got monitored, was ok. Anyone else had that at end of pregnancy?

Dont have a dog but have a 2 year old cat that has been our baby from the start. I do worry about what she will think of the new addition. They will NOT be left alone with the baby. I think she will just ignore baby but you just never know.

My cat has completely disowned me! 🤣

Baby had a high heart rate but I didn’t. I had lots of extra monitoring (like 4hr CTG’s) nearly every day and a scan. But I had reduced movement too. If your heart rate was high I believe that can affect babies heart rate tho which might be why theirs is high? Did they find a reason?

I worry about the dog baby thing too but mostly because every time my dog sits on my lap or curls up next to me when I’m laying down baby tries to kick the poor thing 😭🤣 the other day I thought if the baby was any stronger a foot would have burst through my belly button where they were trying so hard to kick my poor unsuspecting dog 🤣🤣
