Oh also white noise machines... my oldest has a Tonies Box and we've bought one for the new baby, you can buy a white noise cat for that which we've got but also other things like nature sounds etc. Deffo more of a splurge but something to use even when they get older, my oldest uses his for stories and songs every single day and is obsessed with it
We have tonies and love it. I was looking at the night light sheep yesterday, have you tried that? The demo didn’t work. I’d gone into Mamas and Papas for the first time - wow! That place is a licence to print money. £600 for a cot

They did have the cutest clothes with tiny little turtles but £15 for one button up baby grow.
ETA: just seen you got the sheep!
In contrast, has anyone bought items that they really didn't need in the end that they'd recommend not bothering to spend money on?
I’ve said this before but we were given a lot of bath products we could never use due to sensitive skin. You don’t need bath products in the first weeks so I wouldn’t rush to buy any personally.
I’d also say, similar to raspberry, anything big multi pack. You don’t need 4 of the same dummy or 6 of the same bottle until you know baby is comfortable with them. I appreciate it can be cheaper but not if baby doesn’t like.
Don’t get sucked in to expensive = best for baby. It’s not true as a general rule. Water wipes for instance are so wet, Aldi’s extra sensitive are better imo. Pampers are good but not 5x better than supermarket nappies once you find the right fit for your baby..
As above don’t buy hugely expensive bedroom furniture unless you really want to. My LO wouldn’t go into the cot, we co-slept and though supposedly converting to a cot bed up to 6yrs old they’d grown out of that by 3 despite being small. They probably got 2-3 mths from it all told. Small wardrobes are quickly outgrown too, adult size will see you through.
Babies don’t need shoes. Soft warm booties yes but shoes, no. Zip up baby grows are way easier than buttons & ones that go over the head are a pain imo.
All in all you don’t need everything all at once before baby arrives. I know it’s part of the prep but they won’t use their nursery until at least 6mths. Most things can be sourced next day delivery.
Of course if you’ve got the resources, indulge yourself, it’s fun, but just don’t feel financially pressured. You’ll not find yourself in a situation where you don’t have a ‘must have’ and can’t get it tomorrow as long as you have something to wear, somewhere to sleep, something to eat, a thermometer, bath thermometer & calpol pretty much.
All of that said, to contradict myself - do what’s best for you. Every mum and baby is individual. If you’re more comfortable with half of Boots at the ready, go for it because feeling mentally prepared is priceless.

Mr R’s sister got one for Xmas and she loves it - but she’s severely autistic and 14 so her needs for stories and songs are very different to Baby R’s
Depending her capabilities you could look at the national geographic ones.
You can also get ‘creatives’ where you upload your own content. I convert YouTube files to mp3 and use them.
