I get a little scan every 4 weeks when I see the consultant, first baby I am 46 and not the smallest person in the world.. I had a proper detailed twice at 7 and 9 weeks as I had a little bleeding. Then a big scan at 20 weeks and then as I said a little one every 4 weeks. I am having a proper scan tomorrow I’m 29 weeks and then I guess they see how frequently. C section booked for 38 plus 4 days so I suspect that there will be a few scans before then.. the one every 4 weeks is a listen to the heart beat and a little measure. At the last scan baby was measuring a week ahead so keen to see where they are tomorrow. I had my original due date adjusted by a week very early on so looks like baby is measuring to that date..

I’ve got one from Tesco that’s 8lb+. But also we tried a swaddle (he loved it, I hated it) so we use a cellular blanket up to waist height, make sure the room is warm enough and hands are inside mits on sleepsuit.
No one prepares you for how annoying swaddling is! I'm lucky my first hated it 🤣 the grobags where like a compromise for us because they're tighter across the chest but loose on the legs.
Babies have a cheek being picky though if you ask me 🤣

How long would you all give it before ringing triage about reduced movements? I don't know if I'm just being paranoid or not.

I noticed last night I hadn't felt baby much yesterday, but I was really active all day yesterday - barely sat down until about 4/5pm so I just assumed with being so active myself I hadn't noticed his movements. Plus with having an anterior placenta the movements aren't always that strong so I only really notice when sitting still sometimes. I did feel him once I relaxed a bit so felt ok but then when I was awake in the night I noticed I wasn't feeling him (usually as soon as I have a cold drink I feel something). I've felt him a few times this morning but not loads. I do have days where he'll be super active and then others where he'll be a bit more chilled but generally I have picked up on his pattern and know what triggers movements etc. I don't want to ring them and waste their time if I'm just being paranoid. Would you all give them a ring just in case or wait a couple of hours and see?

I’m not this far yet but I was always told ring straight away, you won’t be wasting their time x

You will never be wasting their time. They are there to support.

I was the same the day I called and I also have anterior placenta. And I think he's just a lazy bugger sometimes.

Definitely call them even just for reassurance. If they want you to go in they will tell you

Roughly which week did you all start seeing more of a pattern in baby's movements? I'm 23 weeks and I've been feeling little prods for about 10 days or so now, always in the evenings and at night. But only if I'm sat slouched back, or lying down. I have an anterior placenta but never feel anything while stood up, and rarely ever feel anything during the day, and the movements I do feel aren't very strong at all. Should I be concerned I only feel her bit a tiny bit each evening?

We bought a few of the love to dream swaddles because I thought they’d be a good compromise on swaddling but his arms were so tight and upright he kept going on to his side so I was convinced he’d roll over completely because of gravity so gave up with them. He settled well in them though.

youre never wasting their time! Give them a call, they’ll ask some questions and probably get you in for a listen in or a ctg if you’re past that point. Never ever worry about calling them. They’d rather see you 100 times and baby be absolutely fine every time than you sit at home and miss the 1 time where baby isn’t ok needs a bit of help.

I think I got told to be checking from 26w with my GD. I also have an anterior placenta and I’d say it’s only the last few weeks (28w onwards) that I feel the baby more. Mainly when I’m sat down and when I’m lying down at night but depending on the position of baby can vary between feeling light and a thud. If I’m out and about and busy then I won’t notice the feelings.

Just to caveat if you’re ever concerned always best to ring and check!

I've got an anterior placenta too and mine only got really strong over the last few weeks, I'd say from maybe 29 weeks onwards. Before that I was like you, I really didn't even know if inwas imagining feeling things!
I asked my midwife about it cos I'm a stress head and she said it's normal to feel them less woth an anterior placenta cos it's literally a big cushion blocking what others feel.
I think if you are concerned though reach out to your midwife or hospital and get checked cos everyone is different and it will ease your mind x

Thanks everyone. I gave them a call and am going to go in. The lady on the phone said if I am feeling him today try not to be too worried but they'd get me in as better to be safe than sorry. Annoyingly since coming off the phone I've felt a few kicks like he's trying to kick himself out of my bum?!?! :ROFLMAO: but he's definitely not as active as usual so glad I'm being checked :)

@Elle Woods you’re never ever wasting their time, as soon as you feel a difference with babies movements I’d ring and go in. That’s what I did and even though I did feel like I was annoying them (even though I wasn’t) it was the right thing to do because it picked up problems with the baby that I wouldn’t have known about otherwise. Ofc baby will more than likely be ok, it’s better safe than sorry and for your piece of mind too 🤍 Hope alls well, let us know x

I don’t remember any sort of pattern with my first, I felt like he was always just moving!
I’m 25 weeks this week and I feel more of a pattern this time, baby is usually a bit active in the morning when I’ve had breakfast, then seems to be moving away coming to lunch time, I’ve been kicked non stop for the last half hour or so 😂 and then I notice at nighttime. Sometimes you’re too busy going about your day you don’t realise it’s happening. I was thinking this one didn’t really move much compared to my first but it’s definitely getting more active and stronger as the weeks go on.

As @watermelon sugar says, it’s never a waste of time and you’ll probably find as soon as you hang up or they touch your belly in hospital baby will decide it’s party time. But any time at all you notice any kind of change give them a call. As with baby watermelon, it’s because I went in because something just felt different with his movements (he was still moving, just less and weaker) that they found he had tachycardia and monitored us more over the last 2 weeks, did the scan to find he’d stopped growing etc. You all know my frustrations with the hospital and their lack of intervention in those last 2 weeks but if I’d ignored the movement changes we’d never have known he’d stopped growing and was starting to struggle in there and if intervention had been needed it could have been too late. I’d been to triage countless times and I only ever encountered 1 dismissive midwife who made me feel like I was wasting their time (consultants are a different story!) but because I knew something was off I insisted we saw a consultant or had further monitoring that night and it turned out I was right and we ended up spending 5 hrs being monitored and got an apology from the midwife. Always trust your body and your instincts. Nobody knows your body and your baby as well as you.

I think I need to make a more conscious effort to monitor baby movements then. I mean I’m only 24 weeks but currently all I know is he loves to move in the evening, particularly at 1am ish. For some reason he loves to literally boot me at that time. The rest is minor kicking. I’ve also realised I basically do not feel him whilst out and about, probably my anterior placenta. I have to be sat or lay in bed.

@Elle Woods I wouldn’t ever worry about wasting time, when I sat in triage for four hours having to overhear every woman coming in, pretty much everyone who came in for reduced movements were only within the same day that they started feeling them being reduced and they still were taken as seriously.

I have a high anterior placenta and don’t feel him when I’m walking. I mainly feel him sat or laying down like you say. My original pattern was mainly in the evening after dinner and then randomly through the day. So I don’t think it’s always initially a pattern of loads of movement at certain times. Before 30 weeks if they swap sides or turn over you can feel it a lot less too! It’s changed now and I feel him a lot more but it can be more rolls etc than just kicks.

It feels unfair that those of us who are anxious already have anterior placentas to make us question everything even more!!

Hi everyone! I’ve just had my BFP after a miscarriage last November ( I already have a 2 year old) but I’m absolutely petrified of miscarrying again! My body is showing no real signs of pregnancy other than no period and I’m 5 weeks 3 days according to Flo. Please can someone offer me any sort of reassurance that it’s ok to not be having any symptoms yet? How do you stop the fear after a miscarriage! Xx

Thank you, it is horrendous :( they did it to check I don’t have thrush or BV causing the leukocytes in my wee

Hi, congratulations and welcome 💖 I had 2 MCs before this pregnancy so completely understand your fear, and the truth is, the anxiety never goes away (or at least that’s what I’ve found), but after those initial 12 weeks it definitely improves. It’s completely 100% normal to not have any symptoms at 5 weeks, I didn’t start having any real symptoms until 7 weeks and even then they’d come and go and hugely vary day to day, just take it a day at a time, look after yourself and try to trust your body and keep yourself as distracted as possible so you don’t let your mind wander too much. Having an early scan definitely helps too if you have the money to do so and other than that create your own little milestones x

How do you know when they’re moving over / rolling? I’ve felt some movements where I’ve wondered if it was that (I can’t explain it) but my whole tummy goes hard with it for a few seconds
