What do people take when they have headaches please? So sorry as I’m sure this was asked recently but I couldn’t find it!
Full large coke, and paracetamol. My boyfriend has to go out for coke whenever I have a headache and it sorts it straight away. We don’t have it in the house cos I’ll just drink it all 😂

So fed up, have ++ leukocytes in my wee again but I just seem to have a constant presence of them. They keep doing a speculum and sending my urine off to the lab and putting me on antibiotics and then urine and swab comes back clear but by the next time they test my urine it’s just rinse and repeat and I’m so sick of it
Posted this the other week but:

I had a UTI basically the whole pregnancy with absolutely no symptoms! It was flagged up in my urine samples, that’s the only reason I knew, I kept having antibiotics and it would go and then come back next time my wee was tested. In the end they put me on long term antibiotics for the last 8 weeks or so. They also referred me for a kidney scan which I had at 37 weeks and they said they weren’t draining properly which apparently can happen in pregnancy and cause UTIs… something called hydronephrosis .
I also had one massively swollen ankle and foot (compared to the other one) which again they said was linked to it as it was the side effects of the kidney that was blocked up the most and basically all the fluid was in my leg or something bizarre!

If it is happening recurrently, ask them to put you on antibiotics for the rest of the pregnancy x

I loved it so much but I threw up on it the other day and that was it 💔

It’s maybe a good thing because I did keep it in the house and would get a can out at the slightest hint of any ailment 😂😂

I have my placenta clinic appointment tomorrow after my low papp-A results from a couple of months back. Has anyone else had that appointment? Just wondering what I should expect to happen at it. Pretty nervous as I know this'll determine if i need closer monitoring or not and if baby might need to be delivered early.

Did anyone get extra scans for either low or high BMI and what weeks were they at?

I was supposed to have these but they’ve not been referred to the scan department… so my midwife had dropped the ball again.

Speaking of which, have you all had the same midwife?! My 12 and 16 week appointments were with two different people, and my next appointment next week is at a different location as well so a third person! I’m not that arsed cos it’s the same wishy washy questions anyway so I don’t care who’s asking them, but obv meeting someone different everytime means no relationship is being established

I can’t help on the extra scans for BMI, but do get your MW to chase them up!

I had the same MW at all but my 38 week appt and wish I’d had the one from my 38 week appt all the way through as she was lovely and so helpful whereas mine was a bag of rit 😂 I have been disappointed that I’ve seen a different one every time at my 3/5/7 day appts and my 14 day discharge appt is with another different one too. I know it’s obviously quite difficult to fit those appts in but I feel like you’re so vulnerable in those early days after birth it would have been much better to have some consistency and see the same MW all your antenatal appts were with?!

Not for bmi but both times I’ve had extra growth scans (smoker pre pregnancy then age) but they’ve not started until about 28 weeks. First time I missed the first one because they didn’t have me marked on the right pathway but only ended up with a couple because all was well. This time baby has measured big every time so they’ve been more frequent as each is scheduled dependant on the last.

I’m now bleeding quite a bit after the speculum examination yesterday. Because it happened last time I was expecting it but it still freaks me out to see bright red blood :/

You have my sympathy it’s really awful, even when you’re expecting it. Why did they do a speculum again? Hope it’s stopped again now

Im nearly 33 weeks now so the number of appointments has ramped up and I’ve seen someone different nearly every time. I think I’ve had the same midwife for two appointments and every other time it’s someone new. Like you said no relationship gets established, every time I’m like yes, first baby, yes I know it’s a boy. I don’t ever feel like the appointments are that useful for me!

At mine it was an extra scan and a reminder to keep taking daily aspirin until 36 weeks. Thiiiink they did urine as well, but not bloods.
Seemed more about getting baseline info and setting the timeline for extra monitoring scans - I was put onto every 3 weeks (moved up to 2 weeks towards the end) whereas a friend was on 2 weekly from the off.
At that appt they briefly mentioned it ‘might’ mean early delivery/wanting baby here by 39 weeks, but didn’t really go into detail, just said we’d discuss it more as things progressed if the scans indicated things going that way.
(For extra context I had my final scan a few days ago and have been told they’re happy for me to go naturally to the end - currently 39+1 - so could easily go fine).

With my first (2yo) I never ever saw the same midwife twice. Apparently it was a deliberate thing they were trialling in our trust to have the midwives working in teams, their rota would assign them a patch and move them through community/birth centre/day off/birth suite/post natal so that ideally you’d have met the midwife working when you delivered. (Although a huge covid spike totally messed that up and when I gave birth they were on 50% staffing and had closed one of the birth centres, so no idea how it actually played out).

This time around I’ve had every single community appt with the same woman which has been nice, but seems a bit of a fluke from the way she was speaking to me at my last appt. She’s even been on shift when I’ve popped into the local birth centre for matb1 and whooping cough vaccine. She’s already said she won’t be at my birth though as her rota has her on community & standalone birth centre for the foreseeable and I’m planning to go to the one attached to the hospital which is in the next town.

There was never ever mention of extra scans for me until I got complications.

I’m supposed to see the same midwife each time, but in the four times I’ve seen a midwife I’ve only seen ‘mine’ twice. And honestly I wish I hadn’t as she’s useless. At my booking appointment she missed a load of crucial information, and even now I feel like there’s stuff I should know but don’t - at our last appointment she asked me if I’ve registered for some nhs classes, which I had no idea existed as she hadn’t told me about them. She also told me my bloods were fine so I don’t need iron tablets, in response I said “well the doctor said otherwise and prescribed them to me 🙄”. And apparently my blood pressure reading of around 140/90 was fine as I’m on medication..

if I wasn’t consultant led I think I would have asked to swap midwife’s by now.

Not BMi so not sure if relevant but the growth scans for GD are 28,32,36 weeks.

I’ve had the same midwife since 16w, for me you get booked in with one then you have your midwife appointments on a certain day which then assigns you that midwife.now the appointments are more regular it’s better and built a relationship

I did for both of my previous pregnancies (and am for this one) but we went private so there was no go between, but all done straight by our consultant.

Call them repeatedly until you get your referral. Unfortunately that can sometimes be the only way to get things done with referrals.

I get extra scans, in my trust they do 30, 34 and 38 weeks. They just text me the week before to say when my scan is too I don't get letters or anything.
My extra scan referral was done at my initial booking appointment so it was always on my online notes that I'd be having them.
My friend who was under community midwives seen a different person for every single appointment through her pregnancy, she's based in a different city to me, I thought it was a bit mad tbh

Spent all day shattered yesterday feeling sorry for myself after thinking I’d turned a corner with my exhaustion. Did my body decide to let me sleep last night? Nope! Was up for hours. I’ve got a horrible week at work and really wanted to feel decent going into it. Roll on the bank holiday weekend… hope I make it.

I’ve seen you can’t use a sleeping bag for baby until they’re 10lb. So what do people do for newborns ?

I’ve got one from Tesco that’s 8lb+. But also we tried a swaddle (he loved it, I hated it) so we use a cellular blanket up to waist height, make sure the room is warm enough and hands are inside mits on sleepsuit.

I did, it was just a quick scan with the consultant. They look at blood flow to placenta from you and from placenta to baby. Really straightforward. If there had been an issue I would have had another scan at 28 weeks, but as there wasn't no scan now until 32 weeks.

It was good though because they showed me baby again as well.

Hope it goes well!
